Sorry . . . Diaper Question!

When she eats something that bothers her, my daughter will often have stuff in her poo that seems like sand or pepper. We think it is part of the allergic response, but we're not sure. Her doctor doesn't seem to know anything about gluten sensitivity so we're on our own here. Is this common? Her diet right now is very simple (no seasonings etc.) so we don't think it's cinnamon or something.

Hi, I'm not sure what the answer is but I've seen it too. :) The day after my older son's first birthday his diaper was pure "sand." We couldn't figure out whether it was the sugar, the milk, something else. That was the first time he'd had milk, cake, sugar. Within the next week we introduced milk and took him off and put him on soy because he was just throwing it up. So, I'm not sure but I've always thought it was something that didn't agree with him. I'll be interested to hear if you find anything out. In the past couple of months we've taken him off milk and gluten and he is a different kid, in a good way. :)

How old is your daughter? Does she have any sensitivities or allergies that you know about?

My daughter is 16 months old. As soon as we started giving her milk she had a lot of problems, so now we give her soy milk. It took us much longer to catch on to the gluten thing. She had reflux when she was very little and continued to spit up well past her first birthday. We finally figured it was the gluten. We're pretty certain the weird poo was due to gluten or milk in her diet but wanted to check this out with other people. Thanks for the response!

Hi, my daughter had a similar issue. Her stool looked like had pepper/food in it. At first I thought it was something she ate. My daughter's specialist said that it was due to celiac disease and that the color would be light, most of the time be loose and would also float. He asks about her stool everytime we see him. Since we have started her on a gluten free diet (almost a year now) her stool is more solid. If I were you I would look for a pediatric gastroenterologist.

Add me to the list! My son's diapers were like that before he was diagnosed with celiac disease and placed on a gluten free diet. They looked like light tan sand with occasional mucous. I think that was a result of malabsorption. I would get your child tested for celiac. If the test is negative, then I would try the gluten free diet to see if the diaper situation improves! :)

My son has a sandy poop anything he gets into gluten. Whenever we change a sandy diaper we call it a gluten diaper and try to figure out what it was he ate.

Congrats! Can you share the recipe? We just picked up a bread maker from an estate sale and are experimenting.
