Time To Start Scd?

I have been gluten/dairy free for 2 years, along with my entire family. This past December, I took some high dose antibiotics for a dental infection. Since then, I just have not been the same. I seem to be unable to tolerate carbs or sugar. I have had extreme fatigue, heart palpitations, get dehydrated easily, and feel hungover most days.

This has been going on for 4 months now...I'll feel okay every now and then, but most days I have headaches, lethargy, stomach cramps, etc. I've tried taking some probiotics, but they make me too sick to function. Today I've reached my wits end after waking up again feeling like I've been out partying the night before. I made some homemade chicken stock this morning, and have been sipping on it all day. I do feel better....so as much as I'm dreading it, I think I may need to start the SCD.

Anyone have any similar circumstances? I'm afraid to start this diet, I'm already a stick and really can't afford to lose any weight. I'm just frustrated, and want to have my life back....I'm ready for a nap by 10am, which doesn't really work out to well with four young kids. Thanks!

Hi...I just wanted to make a few suggestions that I hope so much might help. I felt the same way in the past. I felt like I had been out drinkin' up a storm. First, be sure you aren't getting any gluten that could be hidden in something. Do you take vitamins? I was severely deficient in many because of the gluten issue. I feel a lot better now. Make sure all the vitamins are gluten free. I can only tell you what helped me. Every day I take 2 500mg Ester C (make sure it is ESTER C or it will kill your stomach), 1-2 50mg B6, 1-2 50 mg Zinc, 1 8000 I.U.vitamin A, 1 Super B-Complex by Nature Made (it doesn't contain much of B6), 1 5000mcg of Biotin, and 1 1000 I.U.of vitamin D. Where I put 1-2 tablets, you should probably take just 1 unless otherwise instructed to do so by a doctor. You may need to take calcium and vitamin E also. Some vitamin E is made from wheat, be sure it says gluten free. I felt like I had someone standing on my shoulders all the time. I felt just dead all the time and you got it, like you'd been out partying all night.

I really think you might be getting gluten from somewhere! I get those same symptoms when I accidentally ingest gluten. Please let me know if any of this helped. I had the exact problems so there must be something in common here. Bake some chicken , make some oven french fries and pick your favorite veggie. I bought some Trader Joe's Rice milk, but I haven't tried it yet. As far as I know I don't have the dairy problem. You need to eat!

What is this new diet, anyway? What antibiotic were you prescribed from the dentist? Are your dental issues all cleared up and over? I ask, because I found a correlation between dental extractions and strange body reactions (mine only) in the past.

This sounds exactly like me. I've been gluten free for 4 years and I'm almost positive that this is not a gluten reaction. My doctor did a bunch of blood work and told me everything was normal. When you can't function, everything is not normal! I think I have 2 problems: Adrenal fatigue and Overgrown Yeast (candida). There are special diets for both, which actually are quite similar. From what I read, the Yeast problem needs a good probiotic. I've tried several and they really make me not feel good -- extreme dizziness -- sick at my stomach -- and sometimes I feel like I can hardly breathe. I've lost 25 pounds from following these diets and I really don't want to lose anymore. What is the SCD?

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
