Can't Eat Udi's Bread! Have A Rash!

Well, I knew it. Ate 1 piece of Udi's bread 30 minutes ago. I now have a rash on the side of my neck. Not only does it itch, but it actually hurts. First time a rash has ever hurt on me. First time i've had a rash in close to 20 years infact. But I also have a rash on the back of my right shoulder and under my left breast. On top of that I feel like i'm running a fever. I am hot as all get out. As i'm typing this the palm of my right hand is starting to itch, my ring finger on my left hand and my left ankle. This is ridiculous.

As far as I can tell that's all that's happening at the moment. I'm gonna take some l-glutamine and hope that helps.

Can anyone think of anything else that might help?

I'm sorry I can't help with the solution, but I can help with the diagnosis - potato starch! I wouldn't touch Udi's for that reason. Dh loves it though :) . Uggh. I'm so sorry you're suffering like that.

It might not be the potato starch. It could just as well be the tapioca starch. I know another poster on here has allergic reactions to tapioca, and personally, I can't eat a lot of it- it gives me an unpleasant GI reaction (although less severe now that my gut has healed).

As for what might help- maybe an anti-histamine, either ingested or topical (on the rash) and/or something like Tylenol to help with the inflammation.

txplowgirl already said she was nightshade free, and Udi's has potato starch. The reason I said that is that she and I are a lot alike with our arthritis and nightshade intolerance and itchy rashes. I thought I was nightshade free (and was still itching) until I realized I was still eating bread with potato starch in it. Once I cut that out the itching went away (for the first time in two years!)

Thanks guys, I got some Benadryl last night and it hasn't phased it any at all. It has localised around my neck and shoulders. Looks like I have alligator skin. Lol, the rash isn't red now, just a bunch of bumps. They still itch and hurt though.

I-Geek, I can tolerate tapioca starch. Thanks though.

Mushroom, you're right, I think it's the potato starch too. I thought I would give it a try. you know the old saying. I didn't think a little bit could hurt. Boy, did I get a surprise. Lol.

No tummy problems, no fatigue except for not sleeping real well because of being uncomfortable. Took some L-Glutamine, that seemed to help some plus putting hydrocortizone cream on it also. Now, I just got to wait it out.

That will never happen again, or at least I hope not.

You might try taking an anti-histamine.

I can't eat Udi's because they appear to use sunflower oil in everything so I've never tried it. I'm highly allergic to anything sunflower.

Congrats! Can you share the recipe? We just picked up a bread maker from an estate sale and are experimenting.
