I've been reading some conflicting information regarding modified corn starch... I was going to eat some activia yogurt, but I see it has both corn starch and modified corn starch on the label. Is this ok? Here is the whole ingredient list:

Skim milk

Concentrated skim milk,

Strawberries,

Sugar

Fructose,

Corn starch,

Milk protein concentrate,

Cream,

Modified corn starch,

Gelatin

Natural flavour,

Active bacterial cultures,

Sodium citrate,

Natural colour (carmine),

Malic acid,

Potassium sorbate,

Vitamin A Palmitate,

Vitamin D

"Made with Vitamin A & D, fortified skim milk."

Modified corn starch is gluten free however you can get just as much benefit from the probiotic action of a yogurt with many less added ingredients. Yoplait yogurt is for sure gluten free and will give you the same benefits. In general I tend to go for stuff with less 'iffy' ingredients and ingredient lists with the least amount of additives.

The corn starch is OK but Dannon won't guarantee their natural flavors are gluten-free. As Ravenwoodglass said, Yoplait is marking their yogurts gluten-free and is a better brand to buy.

The last time I picked up some Activia to look at the package said "may contain wheat". No way would I take that chance. There are lots of good yogurt brands that are gluten free. I like to make my own yogurt at home, but I also like Stonyfield which is certified gluten free as well as organic so you don't need to worry about modified corn starch: Open Original Shared Link

Modified corn starch is gluten-free without question. Whether modified starch is good for you is a whole 'nuther question beyond the mission of this board.

Thanks everyone for the input. I've never seen Stonyfield brand yogurt (maybe it's an American product?) but I've seen Yoplait. I know I had trouble in the past with the mueslix ones before going gluten-free, but I was curious about the peach and strawberry flavours.

oh- you're not in America?? cause Stonyfield is at all the normal grocery stores here- you dont have to go to a "health" food store to get it. hmmm... it's a great organic product- maybe you can find it online??

No, I live in Canada. I wonder if I check a larger grocery store if they would have it. There are also some health food stores in my neighbourhood as well.

Those are a lot of ingredients. Why don't you just get some real yogurt, like plain yogurt and add honey or fruit to sweeten?

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
