Whole Grains !

I am new here. I found out earlier this year I was insulin resistant, so a nutritionalist recommended eating a lot of whole grains and balancing my carbs and my proteins. So I ate A LOT OF Grains!

I joined a gym and started losing weight - but earlier this year I noticed a lot of itchy scalp, arms, and now the DH rash. I am having more bowel problems now including bloating.

I had some blood tests done last week and still haven't got a diagnosis, but my dr. also said he wants me to have an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy (I'm 51 so that is needed anyway).

But I am hurt and upset because I didn't even know about celiac disease, and when I went to my dr. earlier this summer about my rash 2x - he said it was contact dermatitis and then some other kind of rash and just prescribed creams.

I am worried that I have cancer now. What are the chances I have bowel cancer?

Thanks for everyone's help.........I am very grateful.

The chances you have cancer are vanishingly small. There are cancers associated with celiac disease, but they are rare. The biggest cancer risk is in folks who are diagnosed and refuse to eat a gluten-free diet. It sounds like you just developed celiac disease, so once your bloodwork and endoscopy are done you can go off gluten and you will be fine.

The DH rash is is always caused by celiac and nothing else. A doctor who knows what he's doing biopsies right next to the rash to be sure it's DH and then you are positively diagnosed with celiac.

I had celiac since I was a young child and wasn't diagnosed until well into my 40's. The last 15 years before I was diagnosed were hell on earth. And yes I also ODed on 'whole grains' because every doctor I saw told me get more fiber and heres some prozac because all your problems are your 'nerves'. I have now been healthier for the last 8 years than at any time in my life. I am cancer free. While having undiagnosed celiac can increase our rates of some forms of cancer it is not a for certain that you would have developed it or that you would if you remained undiagnosed for longer. Try not to worry about it. It does happen but the odds are really good that it hasn't for you. Of all the folks that post here I can only remember one person in the last 6 years posting of a celiac related cancer and I think we now have well over 10,000 members.

If you are not gluten free yet or you are newly gluten free the action of celiac on our brains can increase anxiety. If you find yourself overly anxious try some yoga, excercise, funny movies or TV, or even perhaps acupuncture to help with it.

Which whole grains have you been eating?

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
