Tj Brownie Mix Is Horrible!

This post will be worth it if I save one person from the waste of $4. I just made the Trader Joe's Brownie Mix. It is disgusting and tastes like vegetables. Ew. I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that I need to use my flour mix and bake myself. I'm swearing off mixes. Too many bad experiences. In their defense, my daughter thinks they are good but it may only be because she is methodically digging out the Nestle chocolate chips I added. Bleh!!!

This is so disappointing! I just bought a Trader Joe's Brownie Mix this weekend and was planning on making it this weekend.

Well maybe you should do it so people get more than one opinion. Or...you could get your money back. 

Before you swear off mixes completely, try the Betty Crocker Gluten Free Brownie Mix. I add a half cup of chocolate chips to it, and they come out incredibly dense and fudgy.

Last weekend, I served them to gluten eaters who absolutely loved them!

I'm going to have to try this! What brand do you use? Milk chocolarte or semi sweet? Betty Crocker gluten-free Brownies are good. The chocolate chip cookies..iffy :) What brand of icing to you all use?

I use Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips--they are semi-sweet. Also, I bake for the least amount of time listed on the box to insure the edges don't get too dry.

For frosting, I make my own out of confectioners sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk (and unsweetened cocoa, if I want chocolate).

That's too bad. I really like the Trader Joe's pancake mix.

I like the Betty Crocker Brownie mix if I add chopped nuts and coconut, frost it as soon as it come out of the oven with marshmallow fluff and then when cool I frost with chocolate frosting.

I do like the BC chocolate chip mix. It isn't like toll-house but almost as good. I am careful with baking times with gluten free items. Just a few minutes too long and it turns really dry.

I let anything with flour sit for 10 minutes after mixing. Supposedly this gives the flours time to absorb some moisture.

I've been gluten free for so long my taste buds do not really remember how glutened bakery taste. I do know a lot of gluten free mixes taste terrible. Some stores and companies will send out free samples if asked. Doesn't hurt to ask, they can only say no or send you a coupon.

I'm kind of mortified. I was repulsed earlier today when I had one tonight of these fresh from the oven. My daughter (4) insisted they were good so my hubby had one tonight and said they were fine. So I had another bite and I admit they weren't nearly as bad as I had remembered. I still wouldn't call them good. But earlier today I swear they tasted like veggies. That taste was gone. Is it possible that was because I didn't cool them long enough or something? Anyway, I'm really kind of embarrassed because I slammed them so hard and they aren't THAT bad. So someone else should make them and opine. 

Don't be hard on yourself :) This lifestyle has a pretty steep learning curve--and that goes for your tastebuds too! It very well could be that they tasted different while still warm and not set--gluten free flours and starches behave differently than the wheat ones we were used to. I used to love baked goods right out of the oven, but no more--I like them much better after they are completely cooled.

I was also disappointed in the Trader Joe's gluten-free brownie mix.... it tasted like it was mostly sugar when I baked them a few months ago. Since then I have tried Gluten-Free Pantry by Glutino brownie mix and that made excellent brownies, I would highly recommend that brand.

No, Life Extension contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride. Objective Nutrients Thiamax contains TTFD.     I take both of these and a B Complex.
    • xxnonamexx
what Benfotiamine should I take as Life Extension contains both Ben and TTFD.
    • knitty kitty
I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.
    • xxnonamexx
Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks
