HI

I would like to hear your experiences with Nystatin for Candida, I am considering taking it but have some doubts and would like to hear others experiences.

not sure- you mean as an Oral pill like Diflucan?? or as a topical cream?

i dont know how bad or what condition you're treating. i had to take Diflucan once for an under the nail fungus- it worked, but it can be hard on your liver. they usually have to take blood to make sure your liver can handle it.

i didnt feel any side affects.. if it's a one time dose - for one problem- it'll do it's job. but if you're looking for a long time detoxing your body from candida- im not sure whats best for u.

for a lot of us-> a long period of time of eating a NO sugar & NO carb diet(maybe even no to most fruits & juices), plus taking stuff like Caprillyc Acid, probiotics, garlic, maybe some Oregeno tinctures can really turn things around. and avoiding alcohol, sugar, carbs, birth control pill, etc.

im sure other members can add more advice for u :)

Have you looked at the yeast-killing probiotics like Threelac or Fermplus? I'd try that before resorting to Nystatin. Threelac has worked great for me.

I've been taking Nystatin for about 6 weeks now. I think it's great. I felt maybe a little off the first couple of days, but barely noticeable, no side affects since then. Brain fog is much better and my interest in sugar dramatically reduced, to the extent that even if I give myself the choice to get something for dessert, I'm still not interested. Previously I only had to think of something sweet and the sugar monster in me would have sent me out to get it regardless. I used to get cravings for sugary foods so bad I felt like I had no control over my own body, it was an endless, exhausting battle.

HI

I would like to hear your experiences with Nystatin for Candida, I am considering taking it but have some doubts and would like to hear others experiences.

After I was diagnosed by DNA Microbial stool test with candida, I opted to take Nystatin, because (1) I didn't want to try a restricted diet treatment, because I already have 7 food allergy and celiac disease restrictions; (2) I could get Nystatin inexpensively through my HMO pharmacy; and (3) I read several posts here (years ago) about success with Nystatin eliminating candida without a restrictive diet.

Initially I experienced some nystatin side effects (about 3 days of slight nausea) which I could easily manage with ginger tea. Thereafter, I experienced no side effects during the 3 months I took Nystatin UNTIL I finished the prescription and went off the drug. Then I had a couple more days of nausea, which I suspect were drug 'withdrawal'. I never experienced any 'herxheimer effect' or 'candida die off symptoms'. My only symptoms were commonly reported Nystatin side effects. I've taken 3 more stool tests during the past 2 years after that Nystatin treatment. Those tests were all negative for candida. So that drug completely eliminated my candida.

However, I would advise anyone taking an antifungal (or antibacterial or antiparasitic) drug to take high dose (20-100 billion live cells per capsule) probiotics during and after treatment. Also take those probiotics on an empty stomach, not immediately before or after meals.

Yes its to rid my body :(

I am reading a book on allergies and the Candida diet and it recommends Nystatin and the strict diet, I am going to go see my GP next week and have a chat. I am going to try give the diet a go, although it sounds hard to stick with, its pretty basic really avoid sugar and stick with Veg, meat, rice. And also avoid other intolerance's completely. Its a pretty health diet really.

I also have quite a few intolerances, which I think might even stem from Candida and leaky gut.

So pleased to hear of success story, thanks :)

To have stool tests come back clear must be great, least you know it really worked.

Nystatin powder or Tablets? also did you do the diet?

Thanks for the tip with the probiotics, I usually do take them so will make sure to keep them up.

Thanks

Lisa

I'm not sure whether you directed your question to me, but here's my answer:

Nystatin tablets, 3x daily with meals, as directed by prescription from my doc.

NO, I did NOT follow that very restrictive anticandida diet. However, I was already abstaining from gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg (my diagnosed allergies).

Thanks Sue :) appreciate the info.

I have been reading the book "it could be allergies and it can be cured" Phillip Alexander and he recommends Nystatin and the diet. Very interesting book on Allergies, he went to medical school then dropped out after a few years and went into Naturopathy to specialise in Allergies. He has 40 years experience working with Allergies.

Did you feel much better after treatment? did you find any of your intolerance's eased up? I am already free from Gluten, nightshades, and dairy, except for a bit of cheese once in a blue moon, which I find doesn't affects me.

I will definately give the Nystatin a go and see how I feel, I have been preparing myself this week, trying to cut out sugar and any processed foods. I will get the prescription and some supplements and probiotics and give it a go.

Thanks everyone for the replies :)

I already replied this to someone else's candida post, but here I go again:

You never said you were diagnosed by stool test for candida. If you just take Nystatin, you may not kill off the candida yeasty beasties, because your particular strain of candida may NOT be sensitive to (killed by) Nystatin. Only a stool test can tell you that.

I didn't take nystatin to eliminate any intolerances/allergies. I know I will always react to my diagnosed allergies, because they are immune (IgG antibody mediated) responses. I took Nystatin to eliminate my diagnosed candida and all the symptoms I had (constipation, bloating, cramping pain, etc.). Unfortunately I didn't get enough probiotics during and after that treatment, because my ND told me to take probiotics with meals, which doesn't allow enough good bacteria to get to my intestines. So I was vunlerable to a new pathogenic bacteria after Nystatin treatment. I'm glad I eliminated the candida, but I wasn't too happy about getting c-diff, then achromobacter, then h. pylori and dientamoeba fragilis, all because my ND gave me wrong info about taking probiotics.

Thanks Heaps, I think I have read your post before now you mentioned it, because I am sure that is one of the reasons I was a little unsure about taking Nystatin.

Its very hard to find someone to diagnose me, I have not had luck with any GP and my naturopath just said she thought it was candida a while ago, she has me on supplements to heal the gut and asked me to give up sugar and has told me what foods to eat, and she also wanted me to get my stress/anxiety under control first, which now i feel much better so I think I am ready to battle the Candida.

Much appreciate your time to reply :) I now have to find someone to do the stool testing :)

I have actually been doing well with my diet the last week, and noticed my sugar cravings have decreased. Amazing how much better you can feel when you eat well.

Thanks

Lisa

Burdee,

I was not diagnosed with a stool test for candida. I started Nystatin and got a headache which is the same die off symptom I got with all natural antifungals I tried (except Candex. Since I'm experiencing die off symptoms, does that mean that the Nystatin is working for my strain of candida?

Hello all! My life in the last five years has been crazy. I got married in 2020 at the age of 27, pregnant with our first child almost two months later, gave birth in 2021. We had another baby in April of 2023 and our last baby this March of 2025. I had some issues after my second but nothing ever made me think, "I should see a doctor about this." After having my last baby this year, my body has finally started to find its new rhythm and balance...but things started to feel out of sorts. A lot of symptoms were convoluted with postpartum symptoms, and, to top it all off, my cycle came back about 4m postpartum. I was having reoccurring migraines, nausea, joint pain, numbness in my right arm, hand and fingers, tummy problems, hives. I finally went to my PCP in August just for a wellness check and I brought up my ailments. I'm so thankful for a doctor that listens and is thorough. He ended up running a food allergy panel, an environmental respiratory panel, and a celiac panel. I found out I was allergic to wheat, allergic to about every plant and dust mites, and I did have celiac. I had an endoscopy done on October 3 and my results confirmed celiac in the early stages! I am truly blessed to have an answer to my issues. When I eat gluten, my brain feels like it's on fire and like someone is squeezing it. I can't think straight and I zone out easily. My eyes can't focus. I get a super bad migraine and nausea. I get so tired and irritable and anxious. My body hurts sometimes and my gut gets bloated, gassy, constipated, and ends with bowel movements. All this time I thought I was just having mom brain or feeling the effects of postpartum, sleep deprivation, and the like (which I probably was having and the celiac disease just ramped it up!) I have yet to see a dietician but I've already been eating and shopping gluten-free. My husband and I have been working on turning our kitchen 100% gluten-free (we didn't think this would be so expensive but he assured me that my health is worth all the money in the world). There are still a few things to replace and clean. I'm already getting tired of reading labels. I even replaced some of my personal hygiene care for myself and the kids because they were either made with oats or not labeled gluten-free. I have already started feeling better but have made some mistakes along the way or have gotten contamination thrown into the mix. It's been hard! Today I joked that I got diagnosed at the worst time of the year with all the holidays coming up. I will just need to bring my own food to have and to share. It will be okay but different after years of eating "normally". Today I ordered in person at Chipotle and was trying not to feel self-conscious as the line got long because they were following food-allergy protocols. It's all worth it to be the healthiest version of myself for me and my family. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little overwhelmed and a little overloaded!  I am thankful for this community and I look forward to learning more from you all. I need the help, that's for sure!

On the AIP diet, all processed foods are eliminated.  This includes gluten-free bread.  You'll be eating meats and vegetables, mostly.  Meats that are processed, like sausages, sandwich meats, bacons, chicken nuggets, etc., are eliminated as well.  Veggies should be fresh, or frozen without other ingredients like sauces or seasonings.  Nightshade vegetables (eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers) are excluded.  They contain alkaloids that promote a leaky gut and inflammation.  Dairy and eggs are also eliminated.   I know it sounds really stark, but eating this way really improved my health.  The AIP diet can be low in nutrients, and, with malabsorption, it's important to supplement vitamins and minerals.

Thank you for responding and for prayers.  So sorry for your struggles, I will keep you in mine.  You are so young to have so many struggles, mine are mild by comparison.  I didn't have Celiac Disease (celiac disease) until I had my gallbladder removed 13 years ago; at least nothing I was aware of.  Following surgery: multiple symptoms/oddities appeared including ridges on fingernails, eczema, hair falling out in patches, dry eyes, upset stomach constantly and other weird symptoms that I don't really remember.  Gastro did tests and endoscopy and verified celiac disease. Re heart: I was born with Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP) and an irregular heartbeat, yet heart was extremely strong.  It was difficult to pick up the irregular heartbeat on the EKG per cardiologist.  I had Covid at 77, recovered in 10 days and 2 weeks later developed long Covid. What the doctors and nurses called the "kickoff to long Covid, was A-fib.  I didn't know what was going on with my heart and had ignored early symptoms as some kind of passing aftereffect stemming from Covid.  I was right about where it came from, but wrong on it being "passing".  I have A-fib as my permanent reminder of Covid and take Flecainide every morning and night and will for the rest of my life to stabilize my heartbeat.

When I accidentally consume gluten it compromises the well-being of my heart and arteries. Last time I had a significant exposure, about six months ago, I had AFib for about ten days. It came on every day around dinner time. After the ten days or so it went away and hasn't come back.  My cardiologist offered me a collection of pharmaceuticals at the time.  But I passed on them.
    • klmgarland
So I should not eat my gluten free bread?  I will try the vitamins.  Thank you all so very much for your ideas and understanding.  I'm feeling better today and have gathered back my composure! Thank you kitty kitty   I am going to look this diet up right away.  And read the paleo diet and really see if I can make this a better situation then it currently is.
