Genetic Testing

I am being asked to, and considering getting genetic testing done through Prometheus Labs. I don't need a DX but am being asked to "take one for the team" to help provide a better picture of what's going on with kiddo. Just wondering if the outcome/results can negatively affect insurance?

It may down the line I don't know for sure though. One thing to also consider is that many labs only test for 2 of the celiac associated genes. That happened in my family and resulted in doctors 'taking away' the previous blood and biopsy celiac diagnosis that one family member had gotten. That family member then abandoned the diet and started considering all symptoms to be stress related. That prompted me to get gene tests through Enterolab and I discovered through research that my gene is rare but it is associated with celiac in other countries but not in the US.

you should do it for sure- it's for your family's puzzle and health. it probably won't affect your insurance. a Celiax DX MIGHT raise your rates??? but again, on a gluten free diet- most of us go back to being regular people with no heightened risks.

according to my Gi and most docs-> they dont neccesarily DX you on your genes alone, so i dont think it's really a big worry with your insurance. ??

i think you should do it, to understand more about the rest of your family.

everything above is correct. there are more genes involved than just Dq2 & Dq8. so check with that lab first- make sure it's gonna be worth your time. i want to say there's like 9-27 genes.. and the europeans are diagnosing celiac with genes that we're not considering over here.

Dq2 & Dq8 are only the "classic" genes. my own little personal theory in "Cassie World".... is that ALL of the DQ genes have the potential for Celiac. and maybe 2 & 8 need LESS environmental triggers. maybe all the other genes COULD lead to celiac- but maybe they need more triggers, (more stress, more gluten, more infections?) ???

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
