Pain Getting Worse

I have been gluten free for 5 days and I have been extremely vigilant. I am having a great increase in my joint pain and bone pain.

Is this the normal process? has anyone else got worse pain before it got better?

I will be getting the official word tomorrow from the doc if this is celiac. I just thought the pain would get better. The "D" has gotten better.

How long did it take for everyone else to stop having D after going gluten free? I learned in nutrition class that the entire digestive tract renews itself in about 5 days but I thought the micro villi would not renew itself that fast.

any thought on this?

I will let others give you info on the GI issues, as I am relatively new and havn't had much problems with that. I did have joint and leg pains that were worse before they were better. It's been 4 weeks now, though and I am off my arthristis medication. I had gluten last week and had joint pain again, which has taken a bit to resolve. Give yourself time, we are all different, but hopefully you will be feeling great in no time!! :D

Thank you for reponding. this pain is horrible. my legs have been cramping all night last night and all day. every time i move my legs they cramp and my arms have cramped a little today too and they don't normally cramp.

I can't wait to feel better. it feels like I have been struggling with this for sooo long.

lots of things can make your joints hurt besides wheat and gluten. nightshades can inflame your joints, soy can for some. and also for some people- dairy puts their body in an acidic state which pulls the calcium from the bones.

for me and my family-> we've all noticed wheat & gluten & potatoes worsening our joints.

ive been 100% gluten free for about 10 weeks now... and the last 2 weeks my knees have been more stiff... but that may have nothing to do with my diet- because i already have some Osteoarthritis in my knees from years of dancing.

so- there's many things at play when it comes to your joints.

and as far as the gut healing in 5 days- im just not sure how that can always be true. ??

oh- ps- im sure there's other things too that can worsen your joints- like sulfites, or soda, or chemicals... aspartame, etc...

Some people go through a bit of withdrawal when they go off gluten. Hang in there for a bit!

As far as villous damage, it depends on how bad it was. The process is generally a few months for mild damage out to 2-5 years for total atrophy.

I am also gluten free for about a week now after my diagnosis of celiac disease just before (week and half ago).I had no noticeable symptoms good or bad during the gluten free phase until tonight at 4:00 this morning. My WHOLE body hurts. My bones and my muscles..ALL over. I have to be at work at 6:00 for a 12 hour nursing shift. This should be fun. I realize that many of the posts here are over a year old but maybe someone else will find this helpful.

      What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks

      I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.

      I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).

      I have a One Pot and decided to start using it one day. I was hesitant at first making my own yogurt, but was surprised at how easy it was. I like mine better too.

      Because I spend so much time reading every word on all food packaging, I personally would greatly appreciate it if there was one common gluten-free symbol written in large-enough text, and always located in the same place. That alone will make shopping easier and faster. I dread having to buy packaged food. Thank you very much for asking,
