Does Anyone Crave Gluten After Being Glutened?

It seems to me, that after I get glutened and start feeling better, I tend to crave glutenous foods. Its as if my body enjoys being tortured! Luckily I use the good sense my momma gave me and DON'T give into these cravings (most of the time..:X), but I was just curious if this happens to anyone else.

its because its addictive. seriously. i dont have all the scientific details for you right now- but gluten, wheat, and dairy are all addictive and have an effect on your seratonin.

ive had a very addictive relationship with food most of my life. ive finally gone 100% Gluten free and am comfortable with that. but a pizza delivery guy passed me tonight as i was jogging... and i wanted to cry.

Never Never. I never put anything in my mouth that remotely might have gluten in it. And if I get "glutened" I am so sick I cant think about eating anything that will make it worse. Thou before I knew what the problem was when I would be sick from eating something I would go right to bagels and crackers because I only wanted dry things and of course it was the worst thing I could do and it would make me go into full blown celiac sickness. Now when I get into something that is hidden and it doesnt happen often, I make sure my next meals have LOTs of protein in them and that turns the sickness around. Wish I had known this the three out of four years that I was deathly ill on my vacations because of getting "wheated".

Yes! I've been gluten free since April and rarely have cravings for gluteny food, but I was really sick last weekend from a massive glutening and since about Thursday when my stomach was back to near-normal I've been craving everything. I was filming a soccer game on Friday night and was downwind from the fan section. I could smell the breaded chicken patties (which I always hated by the way) from the campus grill and wanted nothing more than to climb down from my post and track down that sandwich. Then it was LeeAnn Chin, Bruegger's bagels, pizza (that was also at the soccer game), cereal... All I have wanted to eat this weekend is cereal. I have some tasty gluten-free cereal but it's not doing the trick and the box is so small. I bought one on Thursday thinking it would last me through this week because I have other food, but there is a single serving left and I am trying to save it. No matter what I eat, I'm thinking of something else with massive amounts of gluten in it even though I know eating it would make me miserable.

Thats a tough time you are having there! Gluten makes my stomach so raw on the inside that all I can taste in my mouth is blood as it takes the lining off my stomach, so I never crave it, in fact it scares me to death. Have you tried just whole foods for a couple of days to detox? fresh fruit, fresh veggies, fresh meat? That really kills cravings for sweets that I get (I have lost 75lbs since I figured out I was gluten intolerant and have another 75 that I could afford to lose so I try to not eat sugar). It takes about 3 days but it works for me. I sure hope you get it under control because if you are like me and it makes your stomach lining raw you are risking cancer of the stomach if you eat gluten. My GI didnt tell me that but told me I had chronic gastritis and I did research on that and know that it leads to cancer. Please be well and give the fresh fresh a try. Keep in touch.

bridgetm - it's not doing the trick because it's lacking the opioid peptides your body is "craving".

I've also heard wheat and dairy can be addictive, and also that oats can also have break down into opioid peptides that can have similar effects.

I know how you all feel though, I get such crazy cravings (Not while I'm sick from being accidentally glutened of course, but afterwards...). I also never ever put anything in my mouth that could definitely contain gluten, but I cheat with dairy and oats, and I think it does affect me badly so I should probably quit them cold turkey :/

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
