Severe Glutening Or Antifungal Reaction.

I was taking antifungals and may have overdone them so quit taking them. I have been on a pretty high dose before and never had the same symptoms so I think I may have gotten a severe glutening. I haven't been this sick in such a long time.

Had two days of severe D which has tapered off but food is still passing through me pretty unprocessed. Had headaches before this and they are still a problem. Had severe anxiety and depression the two days of the severe D which has gotten better but not completely gone. I'm having a lot of different symptoms on different days.

My sleep was never the greatest but it is worse again. One night I got two hours of sleep, one night I got more but woke up two or three times to urinate. Last night, I didn't get to sleep until around 3 a.m. and woke up with a gluten dream. I must have just fallen asleep and didn't get back to sleep after that. Last night, I had urinary pressure the whole night, too. I got up at least every hour to use the bathroom and as soon as I went back to bed, I felt the pressure to go again.

Antifungal die off symptoms normally lasted only two days and accidental glutening normally lasted 24 hours. I started suffering over a week ago and am feeling paranoid about the symptoms dragging on.

I lost five pounds and have no appetite. Of course, I am tired and have not energy or interest in doing anything because of the lack of sleep.

I need advise and encourage.

What kind of antifungals were you taking? Did you get them from a doctor? If you did call the doctor and tell them what is going on.

For me that sounds like a gluten reaction but everyone is different. Eat very blandly right now and if stuff doesn't calm down really soon you may want to get a stool test done to make sure that you haven't picked up food poisoning somehow. Usually our gluten reactions have a pattern and since this isn't following your regular pattern it should be checked out to be on the safe side.

I didn't get the antifungals from my doctor. He advised me to try garlic for candida and that did nothing. The rest I did on my own but he was aware I was trying different things. I took Candex for three months. After that I switched to grapefruit seed extract. Then I switched to oil of oregano. After that, I used a caprylic acid blend and added olive leaf extract part way through that. All of them I used 3-4 weeks. I never felt like this from die off. Two days of symptoms was it.

My headaches started getting worse and my saliva test looked worse so I started in again with antifungals. I used the caprylic acid blend for about 10 days, oil of oregano the next three days and olive leaf extract the next day. I then quit them all.

I'm really running scared here. My symptoms are similar to when I was so sick. I went to my exercise class this morning which wasn't very intense and I got a severe cramp that stuck out in my midriff. I was in excruciating pain and had to leave the room and rub it for quite a while for it to settle down.

My days are miserable but what I really dread is going to bed at night because all I do is toss and turn and get up so often to use the bathroom because of the urinary pressure. I don't know how many more nights of this I can take. The memory of worst five years of my life has come back and I hoped to never get to that low again.

I did go to a very bland diet with no dairy, soy, corn or nightshades. I ate some eggs last night and wonder if that made me worse so I am cutting htem out, too.

ravenwoodglass,

It looks like I will be contacting a doctor tomorrow as the urinary pressure is getting worse. I have some itching now and need to use the bathroom about twice an hour. I'll see about getting both a stool test and a urine test. I wouldn't be surprised if I got a UTI from the bacteria in the D.

I know my DO won't be able to see me but I'll see if he will order the tests. If not, I'll make an appointment locally to see a doctor even though I really don't find them understanding of the whole gluten thing. It will be a challenge getting gluten free medication. I'm also concerned about antibiotics creating more candida problems.

Desperately need a vitamin D supplement. I've reacted to most brands I've tried.

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.

Thanks @Scott Adams. Do you know if Kirkland Signature supplements share facility and production lines with other products containing gluten?  I'm worried that I'll react to this brand just like I did with other gluten-free labelled supplement brands.

This is a really common area of confusion. Most natural cheeses (cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, Parmesan, brie, camembert, and most blue cheeses) are inherently gluten-free, and you’re right that the molds used today are typically grown on gluten-free media. The bigger risks tend to come from processed cheeses: shredded cheese (anti-caking agents), cheese spreads, beer-washed rinds, smoke-flavored cheeses, and anything with added seasonings or “natural flavors,” where cross-contact can happen. As for yeast, you’re also correct — yeast itself is gluten-free. The issue is the source: brewer’s yeast and yeast extracts can be derived from barley unless labeled gluten-free, while baker’s yeast is generally safe. When in doubt, sticking with whole, unprocessed cheeses and products specifically labeled gluten-free is the safest approach, especially if you’re highly sensitive.
