Hi,

I live in England. We are going to Orlando in October with 2 children (age 7 and 9).

Can anyone recommend restuarants and restaurant chains that are good for

gluten-free food in and around Disney World and Universal in Orlando, Florida?

Hi Karen,

if you're in the MGM studios, you can buy plain turkey legs there. We just came back from the MGM studios this monday (4th of July) and Kathy and I (we're both celiacs) ate those turkey legs and didn't have any problems. It says turkey legs on the food vendor booth and it's near the "Tower of Terror" and the "Aerosmith Rollercoaster". But for your children I would only buy one turkey leg, cause these were "monster turkeys". I'm used to eating a lot and I had to throw half of it away unfortunately.

Fortunately, Disney is one place that takes allergies seriously. Are you staying/eating on Disney property? There is a # to call and also an email address that I will look up for you. They were very accomodating and at one restaurant they even made me a loaf of fresh,hot bread at the Italian restaurant right in the Magic kingdom. Most of the Disney character breakfast can do gluten-free pancakes or waffles...

Hi!

We are renting a house in Davenport, about 30 minutes drive from Disney.

I think it's near where the 27 crosses I4.

I know that there is an Outback Steakhouse in Orlando - they have a gluten free menu. The website allearsnet.com has a lot of information on dietary issues inside Disney World. They have every menu for every restaurant in all parks and hotels. They have a section for Celiacs with a lot of tips and restaurant specific information.

Hi!

I went to Orlando last year and the experience at Disney itself was great. When we got there, I called a number and set up reservations in both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. At both of those locations, they were ready to serve me and all times the chef came out to talk to me before ordering and even brought my food to the table. The experience was wonderful. The Liberty Inn (not sure of name) in Magic Kingdom even had a gluten free brownie for me when my husband was eating regular apple pie...which was great. This page gives the phone number you can call when you get to Florida to discuss food allergies with someone at Disney.

Outside of Disney we made sure to eat at Outback Steakhouse Open Original Shared Link and there is an Italian place called Carrabas that has a location in Orlando and a gluten free menu on their website. Open Original Shared Link .

      Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

      Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

      Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

      Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
