Could It Be Dermatitis Herpatiformis?

Hi all,

In the process of waiting to be tested for Celiac desease, I happen to have these extremely itchy, small, acne-like red things appearing all over my body (on my back and chest). They started to show up these past months. Could it be Dermatitis Herpatiformis? Can someone who happened to have them help? I haven't had acnes on my body in my life, it seems they are not deep like acnes are, and they are very itchy...

Thanks,

A.

im not exactly sure- mine was a little more crowded and blistery- but from what people say on here- they can look a little different from case to case. itchiness makes them suspicious.

can you go to a celiac educated dermatologist- they can biopsy the skin ADJACENT to a sore- and test for the antibodies- if you come out positive- then you are 100% positive for celiac- no need for any blood or biopsies.

not every dermatologist is aware of DH- so you'll need to find the right one- but if you can afford- i would do it ASAP before the rash goes away- it could be invaluable information

Thanks cassP for your reply.

I'll try to find a competent dermatologist tomorrow.

I was just looking online for information about this rash. I have exactly the same thing. It looks the same, and your description is spot on. Unfortunately, I didn't have any spots last time I was at the doctor, so I've never gotten a doctor to look at it.

I've been gluten free for awhile, but I made my family a gluten meal on Sunday, and sure enough, I was super itchy by the end of Monday. Today my torso is covered in itchy, angry welts.

Please post an update if you've seen a dermatologist. I'm totally curious about what this might be.

Thanks!

Lisa

Those look exactly like mine. Mine are spread out all over my body - no big clusters. Mine have never been biopsied but they stopped apprearing when I went gluten free - unless I get glutened or eat iodine.

My daughter complains almost daily of an itchy back and has spots that look similar to yours. Not all over, sporadic not clustered. Not sure if hers is DH or not but it seems likely. She is almost one month gluten free and has shown significant improvement in other areas but is still itchy every day.

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
