Get ready, those of you in Dennis' path. If my pain level is any indication, we are in real trouble. I was fine yesterday, just uncomfortable. Today is a whole different story...and I am all the way up in northwest Georgia. I feel for those of you closer to the action.

My cousin lives right near Mobile, AL and they just got done fixing all the damage to the houses that they own and rent out to people(the roofs were torn off of almost every house and trees fell on their house and caused a bit of damage) from last years hurricane that hit them. They did not evacuate last year and I think they are going to be stubborn again this year :o:( Anyways, hope everyone in the storms path is safe.

Kaiti, hopefully your family will do better this time since they seem to have dodged the bullet. As for us, so far, so good. We have lost a couple of small trees and have seen lots and lots of rain.

As for the pain, I have transitioned through Lidoderm patches, then Ultracet, on to Darvocet. Good stuff when desparation hits except for the really weird dreams it invokes. I ran into the outfield wall during a Braves game in one and drove my van into a river in another. How strange! One more day say the meteorologists. I hope they are right.

We got an update from them...they told us the storm is expected to go right over them but they think it is not as bad as Ivan was last year and hopefully they won't have as much damage. I think at this point they are most concerned about the flooding that they could get. My uncle said that(about 3 hours or so ago) it was a steady 80 mph wind and he said he was bored lol...they said later this evening and overnight it is expected to get worse but by the looks of things, it was not nearly what they were expecting, which is good.

We are okay. A couple of small trees are down in the back yard and we have had lots of rain. My pain levels have stabilized after I finally resorted to Darvocets. I do not like to take them for a couple of reasons...they can be so addictive and they trigger some really weird dreams. I ran into the outfield wall of a Braves game in one and drove the van into a river in another.  Neither the umpires nor my husband were happy in those dreams! Hopefully the meteorologists are correct and it will only be one more day before we all get back to normal.

My area is under a Flash Flood Warning this morning and I can see why :(

my back yard is completely underwater, my front yard is getting that way and I've already got water coming in my garage, kitchen and laundry room

My pain levels are extremely high right now. Last night I could hardly walk, my ankles and knees and hips were all locked up and my neck and shoulders are hurting really bad. I looked at the radar and this one stubborn feeder band from Dennis is tracking right over us and probably will be for at least a few more hours.

That is so fascinating--the correlation of weather to muscle/joint pain. I will have to track myself in conjunction to weather sometime... Donna and Nisla--hope sunny skies reach you soon!

Nisla is not far from me. We have had more than nine inches of rain this week. Many of the roads are under water and closed. We passed a park this morning that was so flooded it was washing the pavillions up against the road (you know, the kind with those telephone posts buried in the ground for support). Entire neighborhoods are under water up to their roof tops. A local car dealership was flooded and has several million dollars in damage. I am glad my home is up a hill. It would take rain of Noah's proportions to get to us. At least the pain is controllable now. If they are correct, we should get a couple of days of respite before Dennis' remains backs up onto us again.

Donna, I saw that car dealership on the local news... yikes.

I live down in a valley, backed up to a (previously) dry creek bed... The creek bed completely filled up then overflowed... Of all the houses on my street, my house sits even further down into the valley backed up to the flood plain.

After it stopped raining, the lake in my back yard has subsided to a small pond :rolleyes: my front walkway is still under water, but my garage, kitchen and laundry room seem to be drying up.

We ventured out to Chik Fil -A with my mom and step dad and my niece and nephew so that the kids could run off some steam in the indoor play area since they'd been cooped up inside all day. I saw a lot of downed trees and ponding on the road and we only went about 2 miles.

You guys hold tight! I'm near Conyers/Rockdale Georgia (southeast of Atlanta), and we have gotten lots of rain too...although not as much as you all, thank goodness. I've mainly been concerned with the tornado(s) and high winds in the local area. Lots of trees down, home damage, utility damage, fires, etc.

Prayers for everyone who is dealing with this right now. Nisla and Donna, hope you don't float away :o ...stay safe.

It's raining...again. We are now up over 12 inches for this week. My husband has had to limit his deliveries for work because so many roads are under water. One of his employees was in that neighborhood where the houses are being condemned because the flood waters got so high. I felt so sorry for that woman witht the four week old baby having to be taken out in a boat by the firefighters.

The local news just indicated that we are in for as many as 18 more days of this. Where is Noah with his ark when you need him???

Nisla, I hope your home is drying out a little. Can you believe they are going to sell those cars after they have been under water?

Here comes another round of thunder, so I guess I'd better get off of here.

Drying out a little bit??? HA! You jest right??? I know, wishful thinking. Nope, it's pouring here again...

I can't believe they are going to still sell those cars after them being under water like that.

      Let me suggest an adjustment to your terminology. "Celiac disease" and "gluten intolerance" are the same. The other gluten disorder you refer to is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which is often referred to as being "gluten sensitive". Having said that, the reality is there is still much inconsistency in how people use these terms. Since celiac disease...

      My journey is it gluten or fiber?

      I made it through the holiday w/o being glutened. I had my brother cook with gluten-free breadcrumbs and I didn't get sick. I baked cookies with gluten-free flour and had dry ingredients for cookies in ziplock bag. I also made gluten cookies as well and guess I did good washing to avoid CC. My wife also went to a french bakery and bought a gluten-free flourless...

      What do you mean it would not allow any celiac to eat gluten again. I think if this helps cross contamination when eating out at a non dedicated gluten-free restaurant this would be nice not to encounter the pains. But is their a daily enzyme to take to help strengthen the digestive system?

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SamAlvi! Were there any other antibody tests ordered? Particularly, was there a "total IGA" test ordered to check for IGA deficiency. When people are IGA deficient, celiac panel IGA test scores, such as the TTG-IGA, are likely not valid. If a total IGA test was not ordered, I would request such to be done. Note:...

      Let me suggest an adjustment to your terminology. "Celiac disease" and "gluten intolerance" are the same. The other gluten disorder you refer to is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which is often referred to as being "gluten sensitive". Having said that, the reality is there is still much inconsistency in how people use these terms. Since celiac disease does damage to the small bowel lining it often results in nutritional deficiencies such as anemia. NCGS does not damage the small bowel lining so your history of anemia may suggest you have celiac disease as opposed to NCGS. But either way, a gluten-free diet is in order. NCGS can cause bodily damage in other ways, particularly to neurological systems.

At night, I became unconscious due to fluid loss and was admitted to the ER, where I received IV fluids. Two days later, I ate bread again and once more developed severe diarrhea. I ended up in the ER again and received IV fluids. In my country, Pakistan, doctors are unfortunately not very thorough, so they treated me for a stomach infection. I visited three or four doctors, including a gastroenterologist, but it seemed like they just wanted to keep me on medications and IV fluids. Eventually, I did some digging myself and started connecting the dots. For years, I’ve had excessive gas buildup and frequent loose stools, but I never paid much attention to it. I also cannot easily digest dairy products. Two years ago, I had a CBC test that showed iron deficiency. My doctor told me to eat more meat and said it was nothing serious. However, for the past five years, I’ve also had severe motion sickness, which I never experienced before. Whenever I get on a bus or in a car, I sometimes lose consciousness for 10–20 seconds and wake up sweaty, and occasionally I feel the need to vomit. After more research on the internet, I came across gluten and celiac disease, so I got two related tests (TTG-IgA & TTG IgG) done along with a stool test and another CBC. The stool test showed weakly positive blood. Ever since eating those pancakes and bread, I’ve had a burning sensation in my gut. My doctor reviewed my tests, he told me to completely stop eating gluten and started me on IV fluids for 20 days, saying that I had severe inflammation in my gut. It has now been two months since I quit gluten, and I’m still not sure whether this is celiac disease or gluten intolerance. I don’t really trust doctors in Pakistan, so I thought I might get some help here.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SamAlvi! Were there any other antibody tests ordered? Particularly, was there a "total IGA" test ordered to check for IGA deficiency. When people are IGA deficient, celiac panel IGA test scores, such as the TTG-IGA, are likely not valid. If a total IGA test was not ordered, I would request such to be done. Note: "Total IGA" goes by other names as well. I will include a primer on celiac disease antibody testing which does a good job in covering the nomenclature variations connected with the various tests. Elevated IGG scores can certainly indicate celiac disease but they are more likely than elevated IGA tests to be caused by something else.
