Birthday Party Help (Not Celiac Related!)

My daughter is turning 5 next month. We are planning a Fancy Nancy tea party/spa station day. We have one little boy coming. What is an easy craft he can do while the girls make paper fans? The girls will also be getting nails done, glitter in hair etc, I guess he can get gel in his hair, maybe a tattoo.

My other daughter had a hula party last year and this boy also came. I purposely bought him some boy things to wear while the girls wore leis and hula skirts but he did not want to do any of it.

I am torn between going out of my way to have boy things for him (that he probably wont use/do) and just having the party the way I/daughter want it. If he doesn't want to participate anyway what's the point?

Any thoughts are much appreciated!I hate incorporating one boy into a girly party! (is that rude to say??? lol)

Do you think he would be interested in making a jello aquarium or some cool science experiments? All you do for an aquarium is make blue jello that day and let it firm up but not totally set. Purchase gummy worms, whales or whatever for him to put into the container (clear glass or even a large plastic cup). Then he can either take it home and eat it later. Since that does not take long to do, perhaps you could make some edible sculpting clay which he could form into his own shapes.

I taught Sunday School for years (ages 2-10) and have lots of ideas if you want. Plus I have a neat book on crafts and science experiments...

Another cool idea is making a greenhouse in a bag - add seeds, etc. and tape to a window so it gets lots of light. Not instant gratification but cool nonetheless! And neat and tidy.

Toothpaste putty is fun, too - you create whatever you want and the putty hardens rock hard in 24 hours.

Or maybe even the ubiquitous crayon melt art (i.e. grating up old crayons, placing between wax paper, and ironing).

Do you have a gameboy? My daughter's little boy friend came over after school to play when she wasn't feeling well. She had him sitting staring at the dyer waiting for her blanket to be dry. I slipped him the gameboy to play while his princess was waiting for her blanket.

I would have small game type things for him to do, maybe even take home. It's hard to suggest without knowing his personality.

What a neat idea! My kids would have loved it. Might even find the girls are more interested in that project than the nailpainting and hairdos.

Why can't he make a fan too? He can make one for his mom or for his sister if he thinks it's too girly or he can use the paper to make paper airplanes or just color a picture something instead. If it's meant to be a girl only party why invite him? Or did his parents insist on bringing him along with his sister or something? If that's the case I think his parents are the rude ones and I would not go out of my way to accomodate the boy. Tell the parents it's a girly party and if they MUST bring him to bring some toys he can play with on his own in another room. It sounds like he didn't want anything to do with the hula party so why force him to play with the girls if he doesn't want to?

Daughter has started gluten free diet this week as per gastroenterologists suggestion. However says she feels more tired and like she’s been hit by a train. I suggested it could be the change to gluten free or just stress from the endoscopy last week catching up with her. Just wondering if feeling more tired is a normal reaction at this stage. I suppose it’s possible some gluten might have been present without realising. Have tried to reassure her it’s not going to resolve symptoms overnight

Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats.

I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have been diligently following the diet without relief is a clear sign that something else is going on, and your doctors should be investigating other causes or complications, not dismissing your very real suffering.

It is just so sad that health care in the United States has come to this.  Health insurance should be available to everyone, not just the healthy or the rich.  My heart goes out to you.  I would not hesitate to have the test and pay for it myself.  My big concern would be how you could keep the results truly private.  I am sure that ultimately, you could not.  A.I. is getting more and more pervasive, and all data is available somewhere.  I don't know if you could give a fake name, or pay for your test with cash.  I certainly would not disclose any positive results on a private insurance application.  As I understand it, for an official diagnosis, an MD needs to review your labs and make the call.  If you end up in the ER, or some other situation, just request a gluten free diet, and say it is because you feel better when you don't eat gluten.      Hang in there, though.  Medicare is not that far away for you, and it will remove a lot of stress from your health care concerns.  You will even be able to "come out of the closet" about being Celiac!

Yes, I've posted a few times about two companies: Request a Test and Ulta Labs. Also, pretty much we can all request any test we want (with the possible exception of the N protein Covid test and I'm sure a couple of others) with Lab Corp (or Pixel by Lab Corp) and Quest. I much prefer Lab Corp for their professionalism, ease of service and having it together administratively, at least in DC. And just so you know, Request a Test uses Lab Corp and Quest anyway, while Ulta Labs uses only Quest. Ulta Labs is cheaper than Request a Test, but I am tired of dealing with Quest, so I don't use them so much.
