Hey all,

I'm slowly recovering in the hospital after some heart surgery, doing much better now with that. Feeling better each day. The nutritionist here set me up with a good list of what their kitchen serves that can be made for me gluten free, the kitchen staff is supposed to also be good about this.( I was completly shocked when I found out there was a chicken broth packet mix that was gluten free(by Hormel, Herbox, there are a number of flavors)

Anyways, today I just thought about something. one of the few things I CAN order for my meals here in the hospital and eat is baked potatoes.

I was always grabbing these packets of "Promise 50% Veg. Oil Spread" for the potatoe, basically I really dislike butter so I avoid it. But I just got to thinking, is this thing gluten free?

The only questionable ingredient on here is its artificial flavor.

Anyone know if this is gluten-free? Or a 1-800 number to call for this, the little indiv packs are so small they don't have much info on them.

I found Promise on one of my lists as gluten-free.

Yeah, ,I found it on a few lists too, however I didn't see the %50 percent spread listed, the one place I looked at had the other percentages.

Well, its not making me feel sick, so I'll stick with it. I must have it on my baged potatoes, still not lots of things I get to pick from the list of foods here at the hospital.

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
