Sensitive Rash

This is a very "sensitive" topic. Has anyone confused DH with hemmeroids? I know this is weird and that hemmeroids come with constipation and diareha ( sorry my spelling stinks) that follows celiac disease/DH. But this is just lingering longer than expected and NOTHING is helping. Some days I feel like I will loose my mind for all of the itching. And it is not like itching makes it any better. And you sure cant do that in public!

I am really embarrased to ask this but I really need to know if what I am experienceing is normal. Anyones kind reply will be helpful.

I can't say that I have experienced this, but if I were you I would go see your doctor. I know it's embarassing and all, but you might be suffering needlessly. My mother in law had terrible hemerroid problems and ended up needing surgery to correct them, but now she is no longer troubled.

Do you have DH elsewhere?

I do have DH on elbows and stomach right now. Accidental gluten at wedding shower in May and have had small break out ever since. Thats why I was wondering about the other. I have thought about the surgury. I just dont want to jump the gun and then find out it is DH. Thanks for the input. It is invaluable to be able to ask questions here before I get to the doctor.

Actually it was a situation much like the one I am in that led to the diagnosis of DH. I went to my GP for severe itching in that area. She did not know what was wrong, sent me to a specialist. He didn't know what was wrong. After quite a bit of suffering my elbows broke out and a Dermitologist diagnosed DH. With a gluten-free diet none of these symptoms have beeen a problem. It is the accidental glutening that has brought this question to the front of my mind.

Well it could be, no two people are the same. I have gotten it on my bum, but not quite in that specific area (close though). Good luck, I really hope that gets better.

I have found through trial and error that I cannot eat anything that contains citric acid and chocolate. I have the same problem. Even eating very cheap chocolate will do it. I use a cortizone based cream that my husband got from the doctor for his DH. Give it a try and go off these things for a while and see what happens. You may have sensitivites to other things.

OMG! Give up chocolate and citric acid. This is the pits. I guess I will lose a little weight. I know I shouldn's complain at least their might be a non invasive way to get rid of this awful problem! Thanks for the pointer. I will give it a try.

Yes, the DH/celiac disease can cause anal itching. Yes, hemorrhoids are a possibility.

There is also a far more "normal person" possibility that is pretty common in the south. If you have children who play outside or if you do much gardening, you might have pinworms. These get into your system and come out to lay their eggs just outside the anal opening. The way to check this possibility is to wait until it is dark at night and then take a flashlight and mirror to check the area. Alternatively, you can use the sticky side of some tape and get a sample from the area and place it against a dark piece of paper. If there are small (1/4") white "threads" or tiny roundish white spots, you may have worms. No need to panic or run to the doctor. A quick trip to the pharmacist for a bottle of meds and you can get rid of them. It is OTC. Just be sure you also wash your sheets in hot water daily for several days and vacuum your house and furniture well.

Thanks for the link!!! Man, I thought I was going nuts. Not that I am glad anyone else has this problem, however, since people do I am really thankful they are wiling to talk about it!

I just finished looking at the link and reading the postings. Not that I have an answer for the cause, but I know I am in "good company".

Thanks I forgot about that possibility. Yuck! Isn't this so much fun?

I am new to this group. I have the same problem and I eat chocolate everyday! It is pretty much my one luxury. That is going to be hard to give up, but if it makes a difference, it is worth a try!

Thanks for the info! I started thinking some more after I made my post, and I actually think my H problem might be related to caffienated coffee.

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

Please do more research before you settle on nicotine. Dr. Paul New house is a psychiatrist.  His latest study involves the effect of nicotine patches on Late Life Depression which has reached no long term conclusions about the benefits.   Effects of open-label transdermal nicotine antidepressant augmentation on affective symptoms and executive function in late-life depression https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39009312/   I'm approaching the subject from the Microbiologist's point of view which shows nicotine blocks Thiamine B1 uptake and usage:   Chronic Nicotine Exposure In Vivo and In Vitro Inhibits Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Uptake by Pancreatic Acinar Cells https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26633299/   While supplementation with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine can protect from damage done by  nicotine: Benfotiamine attenuates nicotine and uric acid-induced vascular endothelial dysfunction in the rat https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18951979/   I suggest you study the beneficial effects of Thiamine (Benfotiamine and TTFD) on the body and mental health done by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale and Dr. Chandler Marrs.  Dr. Lonsdale had studied thiamine over fifty years.   Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8533683/ I suggest you read their book Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia, and High Calorie Malnutrition.     Celiac Disease is a disease of malabsorption causing malnutrition.  Thiamine and benfotiamine: Focus on their therapeutic potential https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10682628/

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
