Does 3 Year Old Son Need Biopsy?

My 3 year old son had Tissue Trans Glutaminase at >33.....so I was sent to a gastrointernologist. He told me this morning he needed a biopsy within the week. The dr said that the majority of the time people have celiacs who have there are positive levels of tissue trans glutaminase. He said and if it is positive a lot of the time their needs to be steroids or another medication along with a gluten free diet. Im not a fan of perscription meds....cant a stomach heal just on gluten free? Im confused

Yes we can heal without drugs as long as we are strict with the diet. If you're concerned about your son being given drugs or the biopsy procedure since his blood work was positive you could simply choose to get him strictly gluten free and then test again in a few months and see if those levels have gone down. Do be aware that if you make him gluten free without a biopsy and then later decide you want to have that done you will need to regluten him for about 3 months for the test to have the best chance of being positive.

so then the best choice is to just do the biopsy and possibly refuse the drugs? cause I had been given him no gluten for about a week and half but he may have got something here and there cause when i picked him up from grandpas he had a sandwich in hand and had only had a bite and i tricked him into giving it to me and i told him i would give him ice cream instead LOL..and now they are having me regluten him till procedure...i just dont know if its neccessary to be for certain about celiac or just know he is extremely sensitive?

It doesn't matter whether he is celiac or 'gluten sensitive' the need to be strictly gluten free is the same. The choice on whether to have him have a biopsy or to take the drugs or to take a wait and see if he improves on the gluten free diet is yours to make. You do have the option of having him gluten free and seeing if the blood work levels go down but if you later decide to biopsy he would need to go back on a full gluten diet for about 3 months before that was done. If your doctor will diagnose based on the relief of symptoms and decrease in blood levels that would be good as you will need to have proper precautions taken with him when he goes to school or daycare. Talk to your ped about your concerns and see what they say.

      Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

      Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

      Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

      Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
