Hey, I am leaving for vacation on Thursday and I am finding out that the lactose free milk may be causing a lot of my stomach discomfort. What brand do you buy for rice milk, I understand that some of them have gluten in them?

Pacific Brand and Wild Oats brand are both gluten-free. I drink the wild oats brand now (really like the taste), no more milky milk for me anymore...

Also: Lundberg Rice Drink & Whole Foods Brand-365 Organic Rice Beverage are gluten-free too.

Trader Joe's Rice Milk is fine. I also like Almond Breeze. Soy milk might also be an option.

i would prbly try the rice option 1st if i was you bernadette, just knowing a bit about your system, being like mine... soy definitely makes gas in my body :)

Rice Dream beverages are NOT gluten-free.

I will run to the store tonight and see what they have, I thought Rice Dream was the bad one and I know our grocery store carries that one.

And yes, Soy can be an enemy - it stirs up my system pretty bad, so I stay away from that.

Has anyone tried Goat Milk? I have that here in the store but have not tried it yet, I've heard it is good for those of us that cannot drink milk.

Rice Dream lists gluten in teeny-tiny letters on the back of the container...not anywhere near the ingredients. That really ticked me off because I'd bought the stuff and was pouring it when I noticed!

Goat milk STILL has casein (the milk protein). So if you're casein intolerant, best to avoid that and save money too. (It's very expensive!) Pacific brand almond milk is soy/gluten/dairy free. Almond Breeze almond milk uses soy lecithin. Since I'm super soy sensitive, I use Pacific, rather than Almond Breeze. Just check the labels of the various dairy substitutes. Usually soy lecithin is about the last ingredient. Good luck!

do all goats milk contain casein naturally?? the one i get (in australia) doesnt list ingredients as there is nothing actually added to the goat milk. I had IGG blood test and showed severe dairy allergy, but okay for soy bean and goats milk. Am seeing allergist this week to confirm exactly what options i have. have been using goats milk and dairy free butter for 8 months now, and although bloating has gone, i am still getting hives and have to take daily antihistamines to counteract them. Couldnt believe it when i read your post - but i am not sure if the sever dairy allergy is the same as the casein allergy? will clarify with allergy specialist. Still not certain that it is the dairy that is causing the hives anyway. And i admit that i will still have been getting some small amounts of dairy over the last 8 months, as the only decent and readily available bread in australia has milk solids in it, also most of my favourite gluten-free biscuits probably have dairy. Giving up gluten has been bad enough, but dairy also seems nearly impossible.! <_<

Here's the deal: ALL milk (cow, dairy, human, cat, rat, whale, whatever) contains casein. It's is, by definition the protein found in mammalian milk. Casein is not casein is not casein, however. There are *small* differences between a couple different forms of casein. There are two primary variations of the beta-casein protein involved in allergic reactions - alpha-1 and alpha-2. Cow's milk has much more alpha-2 beta-casein than alpha-1; in goat's milk, the ratio is pretty much reversed. Besides casein, there are four other proteins in milk that can cause allergic reactions: bovine serum albumin, gamma globulin, a-lactalbumin, and i3-lactoglobulin. Like the casein example above, they show up in different proportions in goat's milk than cow's milk. It's all about relative quantities, between the two.

If you're still seeing allergy symptoms, which it sounds like you are, then you really need to try eliminating ALL dairy. Yep, I think it's harder than eliminating gluten as well. But it's doable (even without replacing it all with soy, though it does mean that there just won't be substitutions for some things), and if you have a serious allergy, is rather important. At the very least, it's worth the experiment for a month or so.

I use Vance's DariFree for my milk substitute and like it much better than most rice milks, which seem to have a very watery consistency. If you make Vance's with hot or boiled water and then refrigerate it will be very thick and creamy, just like milk (I don't recommend adding it to cold water as it will be watery and thin). And it seems to have a good flavor. I eat with cereal, cooking and baking + my favorite thing to do is to add some Chatfields Carob Powder and a little sugar to make a shake.

I need a partner to help me address these related conditions." This shifts the focus from a debate about your diagnosis to a collaborative plan for your current suffering, which is the help you truly need and deserve to work toward bouncing back.

      Hello, no I had to have them re done and then used a liner over the top.  Many dentists are not aware of the celiac effects.  Best of luck.   There is other material, yet, very expensive.

      He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.
