Going To Disney World

Our family will be making a second trip to Disney this December. My son and I are gluten free. I know that Disney does gluten free very well. We will be doing the Deluxe Dining Plan so most of our meals will be sit down meals. Has anyone been recently that can tell me what they liked. My son is 10 so he will be considered an adult under their dining plan. I know the basics about the chefs coming out to talk to us and all. I assume that they will make more "kid friendly" foods for my son than what is on the adult menu.

I am looking most for which places to make reservations at - who does gluten-free dining the best at Disney for both and adult and a child? I would love some gluten-free Mickey Waffles, some gluten-free pizza, etc.

I'm a regular at Disney World and while I've yet to see a gluten free menu, that's not to say they don't exist.

My advice would be to contact Disney directly: Open Original Shared Link

With the level of service Disney provides I don't see why any of there restaurants couldn't provide safe meal options.

I just came back from Disney World. None of the restaurants post their gluten free menus however; if you email them they will send you a list of restaurants in the park and their gluten free items. They are also very aware of how to treat our food. My food was made and brought out separately from the rest of the food. I was very pleased with how well Disney took care of me and my family. They are a class act organization.

DisneyWorld is clearly the gold standard in catering to anyone with special dietary requirements!

My only caution is to keep a closer eye on the "coutries" in EPCOT. Don't get me wrong - we've had great experiences there too - but they are outsourced and I found the level of knowledge there to be mixed. For example, in "Mexico," the server couldn't understand what we meant be "dairy" (my son is dairy allergic). We literally had to say cheese, milk, etc., etc. He also refused (initially) to bring a chef over - which is normal at Disney - saying that the chef was too busy.

Eventually we did get the chef who was more "classic Disney" - fantastic all the way!

That said, again, DisneyWorld is the best. Fear not! (But do call in advance - they'll keep your records on file so restaurants will know IN ADVANCE your dietary needs if you make any special reservations.)

I am 6 months gluten free and I'm at disney world right now. All of the disney owned places are amazing and the chefs clearly know their stuff. All you have to do is walk in and ask to talk to a chef about an allergy and they will tell you all of your options. My resort (all star music) has. Specialty pasta, bread, cookies, brownies, chicken tenders, pizza, waffles, and more! However, DO NOT EAT IN DOWNTOWN DISNEY!!! I have been slightly sick the whole trip so far because the ribs at the T Rex are smoked with barley and I was told they are gluten free. I found out only after going to the rainforest cafe in animal kingdon and having them tell me the ribs are not ok. The resturants are both owned by the same company and so I double checked about the t rex ribs when I went back there and that was when they told me. I had already eaten them a few days before and was told they were fine, nobody mentioned the smoke. So, disney owned and run places are a-ok, but any place in downtown disney, the worlds in epcot, and rainforest cafe and yak and yeti in animal kingdom are a total no go!!

      oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
