Hi,

I was just wondering if this has happened to any of you. I had some natural oatmeal last friday. Around, lunch time, I threw up, had severe stomach problems (gas), and was very dizzy. I guess it was cross contamination. Well, ever since then I have noticed a change in appetite. I do get hungry, but I eat far less than usual. I also have been tired all this week.

Most of us here do not eat oatmeal--of any form or brand. It is nearly always contaminated. I would steer clear of it altogether. Your other symptoms could be a signs of being 'glutened' by the oatmeal as well. Hope you feel better soon!

I will not touch oatmeal. The kinds in the US are all contaminated and even a small percentage even react to the protein avenin in oats even when they are pure.

I haven't had problems with oatmeal, or maybe I have and have attributed it to something else. My last contamination was two weeks ago and I am dead tired.

If you eat oats from the U.S then they are likely contaminated and you are getting some gluten in that way. The stats for contamination the companies that make oats are alarming.

Yeah...I wouldn't touch oats with a ten foot pole. Well, I would, but then I'd clean the pole before using it for anything else. :lol:

It would be natural that you eat less after going gluten-free.....you're absorbing your nutrients, so you don't need to eat as much.

I noticed after about a month gluten-free, my appetite dropped off considerably. I could go almost all day and not be hungry, which is strange for me.

Thanks everyone! I'm feeling alot better. It took a week of resting and getting plenty of sleep. I will never, ever, go near oatmeal again. I still am craving some hot cereal. Does anyone know of any gluten-free hot cereal that tastes good and doesn't have rice? (I'm allergic.)

You can use millet grits, quinoa flakes, buckwheat, or a combination (especially with flax meal, honey, cinnamon, and vanilla - yum!).

      Yes. I have not been tested for celiac. It took forever to get diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. lol. I have an appointment with my regular GP later this month and will convey my findings on improved symptoms and see what his thoughts are. Thank you.

      @Grahamsnaturalworld, It's never too late.   Have you been checked for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth?  SIBO can cause ongoing symptoms.  Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and Histamine Intolerance (HIT) can also be the cause of ongoing symptoms.  The AIP diet can help with these by starving out SIBO bacteria and calming the immune system. Do you include dairy in your diet?  Casein in dairy can cause an autoimmune response the same as to gluten.  Have you been checked for lactose intolerance?  Some people lose the ability to produce the enzyme, lactase, needed to digest lactose, the sugar in dairy because the villi where the lactase enzyme is made are...
