Errr..Amitriptolene is an anti-depressant. It doesn't really have anything to do with treating your allergies or intollerances. Oftentimes people with chronic or unexplained illness suffer from depression..so that's maybe why it was prescribed? The 10mg is not a very strong dose.

IrishHeart Veteran

Amitryptilline is also often prescribed for other symptoms besides depression--usually pain.

It was given it to me for chronic joint/neck and lumbar spine pain so severe I could not sleep or sit at all.

10 mgs. is the lowest dose, I think. Some docs have you gradually add more in 10 mgs. increments to see what works best for you.

This med will make you sleepy, hon. I, personally got no real pain relief from it at the time I tried it, but I was very ill from malabsorption then.

I will say this...if you do tolerate it and take it for awhile, do not stop it abruptly. Taper down.

As for your leaky gut, are you under medical care for that?

Are you taking probiotics or anything to treat it?

Have your allergists tested you (blood test for IgG/Iga allergies) for any of those allergies? Or did they just decide to restrict your diet on theory?

Why are you taking an anti-fungal? Were you diagnosed with Candida or some other fungal infection? (I took Nystatin for 3 months and successfully eliminated my Candida, which was diagnosed by stool test analysis.)

I was misdiagnosed for 30 years before I learned I had celiac disease (and several other IgG/IgA mediated food allergies). So I have mucho leaky gut problems (extreme reaction to sorbitol and all other 'tol' sweetners). Whenever I have an accidental contamination (consume one of my allergens), I take L-glutamine. That decreases the intensity of my (painful) gut reactions and heals my gut more quickly after accidental consumption.

the allergist did the skin test and i reacted to birch maple cat dust mite trees grass weeds dust hay ragweed milk soy wheat chocolate and all cross cont foods

he then put me on this free everythign diet and i was still not getting better then i droped nightshades and he said it was a good idea

i have not really been diagnosed for anything he just said here follow this diet and i went on the candidina diet and i have been on it for oh god months now but i am not able to get past the elimation stage

i ate basmiti rice brown last night and i am haveing D and im so tired i cant think straight my every joint in my body just akes it hurts to even type

my GP just did a routien celiac test but just said i dont have it

but i have sevral family members who do have celiac and i can not tolorate gluten at all

i am taking the anti fungal nystain just cause allergy doc put me on it 1 tsp 2x day i have probiotics but allergist said they prob wont work i have them here i jsut havee not taken them and my vitimans i have a hard time takeing them too they seem like they burn my gut

everything seems like it burns my guts i tryed to eat chicken today yuck but i ate it anyway and i had oatmeal lactose free milk and blue agave and that seems to burn and hurt my guts i go looking in the fridge and cubbords and then i look on the net for things to eat and just can not find anything that i can eat i waisted so much money trying to figure out a way to make bread rolls or flat bread or anything that wont either turn into glue or bother my guts

im sipping on peppermint tea but that burns too i have chamilie tea burns chi tea burns lemmom tea burns

got any suggestions to what i can drink thats nice and soothing and warm to either drink or eat ?

im jsut at my wits end here i hope yall can help

Skin Tests can't diagnose food allergies, because we don't put food under our skin when we eat. Blood tests and some stool tests can diagnosed delayed reaction (IgG, IgA mediated allergies). Skin tests can eliminate some IgE mediated allergies, but not definitely diagnose any food allergies.

Are you eating certified gluten free oats? Regular commercial oats are often cross contaminated with wheat. Then there people that react to the oats themselves. I unfortunately am one who reacts to pure certified oats. My reactions are as bad as if I ate wheat, barley or rye.

I hope you can figure out something and feel better soon.

collgwg Contributor

yea thats what i figured but i can not seem to get any testing done

i did go for ultra sound no results as of yet and if they are in i have not got a call yet

i really need this dr to do some sort of testing

in the mean time im starving everyone is conserned about such a weight loss in such a short period of time

and im getting on the mother in law's nerves

there were a bunch of people who were having some holdiday cheers and food and i kept saying no to this drink and that drink and someone asked why i just said because my guts wont hanlde it and the mil piped up and said ok im bored

then after a bit the conversation went to farming and then to eating organic and grow your own foods and she thought i started it and looked at me and said cant you just drop it good god i was not even talking about my condition

all my friends just dont understand why i am reacting to all these foods i have people saying its all in my head im doing this for attention

omg its hell i just would love to eat something with out it hurting burning and all of the other horrible symptoms

and if i cant even eat rice or potato or even a sweet potato or lettuce how in the heck can i take medication dosent make much sence i think taking medication made me the way i am today messed right up internally

but i dont know how to heal my self one diet says eat this one says eat that good greif im getting dizzy just trying to keep up

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
