Ingesting Gluten

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone else just knows while they are eating something thats it contains gluten. Before you have any symptoms I mean.

I went shopping on Sunday and was starving. I have to eat or I start feeling really weak. Went to a restaurant and could not find one thing on the menu I could have.

After about 20 minutes of searching I asked the waiter for some scrambled egg with avo and some french fries.

Well it looked ok but as soon as I started eating I just knew there was gluten somewhere in this meal. I couldn't taste anything, I can't explain, just a feeling. Within 10 minutes the headache started, heart was racing incredibly fast, nausea and sooo tired I could hardly drive home.

I questioned myself afterwards as to whether I "talked" myself into the symptoms and whether it was all in my head. Is this possible?

I learned a valuable lesson though! Its just so difficult when you are out and hungry, there is nothing to buy quickly to fill you up.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Yvonne

I usually know right away. I get this weird burning/choking/tickle kind of feeling in my throat...... immediately after ingesting.....

I feel it right away. I usually start feeling weird in the midst of eating it right before the symptoms set it. When that happens I stop eating because I know by that point I was glutened.

Thats exactly like me Kaiti.

Its weird because you get all these emotions raging through you because you just know you are going to get sick and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. I almost wish I could make myself throw up to get rid of it but of course that won't work! Its really unpleasant feeling out of control like that.

Bonnie...I know what you mean about feeling like you have talked yourself into getting sick. I don't know if I can tell right away..yet, but I will do things like all of a sudden feel really bloated. I swear I can gain 5 pounds within 4 hours, because of being glutenized...but it feels crazy making. Sometime I feel like a hypochondriac...it just feels crazy!!!

My lips get a prickly, tingling sensation and I start to get a little brain fog. Fortunately I am not super sensitive and I can stop eating before it gets any worse.

Ian have you found that the brain fog gets worse the longer you are gluten-free? I am noticing its got a lot worse for me but perhaps it will level out as its still relatively early days for me. Its a horrible feeling, like you're not really here, can't really take in what people are telling me, or promptly forget what they told me!

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding

I think I found a huge culprit for severe reactions to create worsening of my c symptoms. Do people with celiac have sensitivity and /or have opposite reaction to certain medications Where can I find a list ?  I'm new here I'm.wondering why I am getting worse when I take certain medicine...the burning feet.  Rebound muscle pain so intense  How many people get opposite effects or have a horrible attack after these meds

Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️

Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…
