Vicks Products...still Gluten-Free?

Hi, everyone,

About a month ago, I visited the Vicks medicine website (vicks.com), where in their FAQ they stated that all Vicks products are gluten-free. Now I have a cold, and when I went back to the Vicks website to once again verify the gluten-free status of their products, I noticed that the gluten-free information is no longer in their FAQ. Does that mean that they are reformulating their products and that they may now contain gluten?

I see that Vicks now makes a product called Natrue Fusion, which they specifically state is gluten-free, but I'd visited their website to check the status of NyQuil and DayQuil...and now I'm wondering if those products are safe.

If anyone has any insights or info, please share! :) Thank you!

I hope so!

This from the website. It was with FAQS, something like "more FAQs"

You'll be happy to know that none of our Vicks products contain gluten.

Thanks for finding this info, Karen! I see that they submitted this answer back in 2011, and I know that Vicks' website stated on their website as recently as about a month ago that the products are gluten-free. But since that info is not clearly stated there anymore, I'm definitely worried. I ended up sending them an email to ask if the products are still all gluten-free. I'll update this post with their answer once I hear back. Fingers crossed that these products are still OK... :)

I think it would be unlikely that they would re- formulate all thier products in less then a year to include gluten ( an issue they show they are aware of).

Don't be surprised if you get a CYA statement that says they don't add gluten but won't guarantee gluten-free status. That usually just means they don't spend the money to test.

Yeah, I agree, it's probably unlikely that they'd suddenly start using gluten in their products. But since now they seem to be specifically marketing their Nature Fusion as gluten-free, yet there's no other gluten-related info readily available on their site anymore, it definitely makes me wonder. I'm probably overthinking it, but hopefully they can provide an up-to-date and definitive answer...although I won't be at all surprised if it's more of a CYA type of answer, either.

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
