I'm living in the lovely cosmopolitan city of DC feeling absolutely constrained by my gluten free lifestyle. For once it would be pleasant to meet a charismatic, well-educated gluten free man in the 28-35 year old range. Are you out there? I'm looking for my celiac soul mate, or at least a new friend I don't have to explain the food rules to over and over again ;)

I would think there must be some decent gluten-free places to eat in a city like DC...should be a good spot to meet fellow gluten-free people! B)

charismatic: nope sorry, not even close. More like reclusive, introspective, and grouchy. Mangy might fit too.

gluten free man: bingo on that one. Good thing this is multiple choice.

Well, to get serious,

I suggest you check out the local DC Yahoo group for celiac support. They have monthly meetings in Bethesda library. They do potlucks fairly often and also group dinner outings, so you may run into a suitable person there . The yearly membership is $20. But the meetings are helpful and they usually have a gluten-free vendor or two. They have a restaraunt database you can check for good places to eat.

There is a chapter of CSA in Reston. They also have meetings and info. Both good groups to join, nice people too! :)

I don't make it to these meetings very often myself, but the ones I've attended had a good turn out in Bethesda. I haven't tried the potlucks or dinner outings either. I get the impression that it's mostly younger people doing them though so a good fit for you.

Ha, thanks for the bit of comic relief :) I didn't know about the DC yahoo group; I'd be willing to give it a try to meet some gluten-free people my own age. I've been to the meetings for the Gluten free DC meetup group, but the age range seems to range from much older than myself to much younger. My good friends are very indulgent of my "little diet" (their words), but sometimes they ask what's the harm if I just eat a little bit of gluten. It's been a little frustrating. As for hanging around restaurants, my job keeps me far too busy. I routinely work 60-80 hours a week, which doesn't leave much time for lunching and lurking, but I will give it a try. Thanks!

I hope it works out for you. I don't know but maybe there are some wheat allergy groups out there also? If there are it might be another place to look.

Some people with Crohn's disease are doing the gluten-free diet now also. Just a thought. And then there are all the gluten-free for the moment types that think it is a great healthy diet because a celebrity does it.

Surpisingly they are actually right about the celebrities for a change! :)

The Yahoo group s great, but they will probably ask you to register before giving access. They do a have a list of restaraunts in the area that people say are good for gluten-free. And you can sign up for daily email notices of the new messages posted.

Here is the CSA page listing info for the local chapters. The Northern Virginia chapter is the one for DC.

      I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets...

      M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values. Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup. I use them as a gluten free substitute...

      I see it everyday on my feeds. They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts. I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field. Some days I would just like to scream. So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach...

Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver.After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
