Could This Be Cd?

For the past 5 months or so I have been experiencing some strange GI problems that have gradually worsened over time. I started out just feeling bloated after I ate and sometimes feeling the urge to go to the bathroom almost all the time even though I knew I didn't really need to go. Then it progressed into having many bowel movements a day about 4 or 5 at the least. But I do not have diaherra but the stool is still weird. Sometimes light and sometimes with a weird clear coating over it. I also get very very bloated and gassy from eating even small amounts of food.

I also get headaches, have a chronic sore throat, and get dizzy very easily. ( I think that may be low blood pressure though.)

I also get severe pain in my lower right abdomen that sent me to the ER. The doctors their thought I had a appendicitis but I didn't! I wish I did because I would be better now :( But oh well.

I also have become extremely anxious because I am always worrying that I won't be able to get to a bathroom quick enough or that I am going to begin to start feeling like I need to use the bathroom. I don't know what this is but it is getting unbearable. I am a college student right and have been missing class because I feel sick or get highly anxious about becoming sick in class. Sometimes it gets so bad I practically have a panic attack. I am constantly on edge and on bathroom watch and it is having a very negative effect on my life.

My GI Dr. had me go through a barium series of my small intestine but it came back normal. I also have fluid around one of my ovaries. I don't think that has anything to do with my stomach problems though.

I was diagnosed with IBS. My doctor prescribed me Hyoscyamine but it doesn't seem to be working. He also prescribed me fiber pills.

What do you think?

Sounds very similar. I am not a doctor and don't want to interfere with what you have been told to do but.....if you DO have Celiac Disease, the fiber pills will only make your symptoms worse.

Ask your doctor to give you a blood test for celiac disease, it is not always conclusive, but it may give you a place to start. Other people here on the site can clarify what the blood test is called.

Keep monitoring this web site and you will gain alot of knowledge from many experienced people. Perhaps, going on a gluten-free diet would help your symptoms. It will not hurt you even if you don't have celiac disease.

If I know that I have to be somewhere and can't get out of going, I will not eat anything beforehand. This seems to help me alot.

Good luck and keep reading these posts

Those barium series are not good for detecting celiac. You need to first get a complete blood panel for celiac which includes the following:

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG

Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA

Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA

Total Serum IgA

Sounds like celiac could be a possibility.

I also wanted to add to my post that if you need to be in class, try Imodium Advanced. It is at most grocery stores and it will help you get through your classes and relieve some of the stress you have in sitting in class for hours. Stress will add to your diar. issue.

Do go look into a blood test for celiac disease.

We have all been there and you are in very good company.

Lisa,

I don't think Imodium will work because I don't usually actual need to go to the bathroom (well some of the times i do) but the other half of the time its just a urge and then I don't go. This situation is making me feel like I am going to have a nervous breakdown! I am already a anxious person by nature but whatever is going on with me is making it much worse. I am actually thinking about taking the semester of school off so i can figure out what is going on without the stress of classes. Also, I am out of state so my Dr's aren't where I am at school.

My symptoms really kicked in when I relocated and took on a new job. I started losing weight dramatically. I think stress or anxiety can be a trigger. I also felt guilt and nervousness. I never even considered celiac disease, but I had an emotional breakdown in front of my boss/friend after a few sitiuations came to my attention about the job...so I packed everything up and moved back to Pennsylvania.

I had the bloating too at first. I was taking so many acid reflux pills almost every day that I think those pills made me feel worse. Do you get chills? Dry hands?

I do get chills. I dont have dry hands but my lips are always really dry. Whatever this is it really started to get out of control when I went to Europe this summer. Before it would come in go but it is now constant.

Based on that dx alone, you *should* have already been tested for celiac disease. I'm sure you weren't, but IBS is supposed to be a diagnosis of EXCLUSION, meaning they test EVERYTHING else first. They never test for celiac disease, though. :-( If you're still eating wheat, go back to your doctor and find out if you had the full celiac panel done (and what your scores were if you did), and if you didn't, get that test done. IBS is the most common mis-diagnosis of celiac.

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
