My vitamin D levels are very low again, in the single digits. I am on the 50,000 IU weekly treatment regimen. Does anyone else have trouble keeping their Vit D in the normal range?

I'm not as low as you, but I was down in the teens. I was put on 5,000 units, and after 6 weeks my level of D had DROPPED. I was on 10,000 for 3 months, and got my level up to the low normal range and was backed down to 5,000 units.

I'm hoping now that I'm eating a gluten-free diet I will do better, but I've been struggling with it for a year.

My level is 9. I take 5000 IU a day. :)

1) The 50,000 IU listed in the OP is probably D2. D3 is going to be much better.

2) Try to get your vitamin D in the way nature intended: from the sun, this also bypasses the gut.

3) 15-20 minutes a day with ~ 20% of your skin exposed, you DO NOT want a tan! That actually lessens the

Vitamin D formed.

good luck!

I was 17 and I take 7000 a day. After a year, I reached 24. Another year and I just barely hit normal now at 30.6

I was at 14, the bottom of the range for my test was 12. I was instructed to take D3 at 10,000 per day for 2-3 weeks (so 70,000IU per week)...then after that back down to 5,000 per day (35,000 per week). After doing that for 3 months I got up to 55!

Then I backed down to between 5k-2k per day for maintenance. And within 6 months I was back down to 32. =( So I had to up my dose again. During the summer I usually feel pretty good.

My mom's doctor (regular family doctor) told me that he has never tested anyone that came back in the normal range for Vit. D. All his patients show low. He wonders if the testing is even correct. Of course, that might just be his office/lab.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
