Lefkada, Greece

I'm travelling to Lefkada this summer for two weeks. The place I'm staying in will have a kitchen but the group I'm travelling with will want to eat out and I was wondering what options were available for a celiac in Greece. I'll be near the village of Poros and it says there are tavernas there..

I was also wondering if someone who spoke Greek could help me? The gluten free travel dining card includes ingredients I'm allergic to and it would be nice to have a sheet of paper I can show to a server and work from there.

I went to Athens about 3 months after my diagnosis...eating gluten-free was not a problem. A lot of the food is naturally gluten-free and I stuck to grilled chicken/pork/fish (no sauce) and lots of veg. I have the Triumph Dining cards and the one in Greek worked really well. All the servers took the issue very seriously and on more than one occasion went to consult with the chef for recommendations. I didn't get glutened once! We did stick to 'nicer' restaurants because when my husband and daughter wanted souvlaki I took one look at the grill and figured it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time, and I had no idea what they might have cooked on it at some point! The best part was all the servers were really attentive to the issue and didn't seem to view me as someone who was 'weird' or 'bothersome.' Enjoy!

Greece is great, you will have no problems! They eat alot of wonderful veggies and meats that are cooked in olive oil, not breaded. I was there just last year and had no problems. Enjoy!

Thanks for your responses! I'm glad that it hasn't been a struggle for others.

My biggest issues are that I'm allergic to both dairy and rice. Do you think that will be a problem for me or will I still be able to stick to meats and vegetables?

I wasn't eating dairy when we went and it didn't pose a problem. As for rice...I don't remember eating any while I was there, and I'm a big rice fan. If it had been offered I would have eaten it! I just stuck to the the meat and veg, and didn't have a problem.

Oh, no problem at all. They love their veggies and meats. Wonderful food! Enjoy, and let us know how it goes.

But M&M's contain milk, and would not be at all like a Tootsie Roll.

I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver. After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

I see it everyday on my feeds.  They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts.  I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field.  Some days I would just like to scream.  So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach them properly. I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
