This is kind of amazing to me. No gluten, no soy, and hardly any dairy.

Pretty sure that I am at least NCGI. I get better and better every day. I wanted the diagnosis, but I can live with the physical proof.

I'm not so sure you're NCGI. I'd tend to say you have Celiac disease. DH = celiac. It's pretty simple. Congratulations on clearing up! YAY for you!biggrin.gif Enjoy it.

Now remember, dh can present even when you're gluten-free any old time it decides to until all the antibodies are out of your skin. It seems though that you got an early start on the whole thing though before you had a full scale outbreak all over your body or most of it. Let's hope that means that it will take less time for the antibodies to clear out of your skin. Just be very, very careful not to get glutened or cc'd --- it will set you back & those antibodies will rear up again like nobody's business. I refuse to even take any chance at all & will not eat out anywhere! There will be time for that once the antibodies get out of my skin & until that time I'm going to be such a good little girl. Ever vigilant not to get cc'd or glutened.

Drink lots of water & keep up the good work. I'm so happy for you!!!!!!!biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif Gives me lots of hope.

Thank you. I know I have to be patient. I just hope a year from now, I feel like myself again.

My stomach problems are still a work in progress but I am thinking that once the antibodies are out of my system, the rash will be completely gone. So the more it fades, the better the GI stuff will get. Wishful thinking...

Hang in there. I know you can do it! I didn't have much GI symptoms but I sure as heck have/had neuro symptoms & psychological effects & other physical things. My rash is still a battle in progress but getting better than it once was for sure! But I tell you true --- I am feeling so much better physically & mentally. I had become a royal "B" you know? Seriously! And that was NOT my personality. I was snapping at nothing! No, not snapping--- biting HARD! That's gone now. It sure feels good to have that gone! And my body is feeling better.

So now you know. The proof is in your skin & in your eyes & in your body. You have your dx. The medical practitioners will have to catch up to us.laugh.gif If they refuse to acknowledge celiac then we are way ahead of them. I do feel that it won't be too long in the future when there will be a diagnostic test for those of us who have gone gluten free & refuse to gluten ourselves & thereby damage ourselves just to get an official dx.

Yey !!!!!! Your skin is looking pretty good. No doubt your GI will come around in time too. Mine was perhaps opposite to you ??? My GI/neuro started clearing up almost immediately. My DH was full blown so I am a year down the track I still have spots appearing around my body and although I've had two whole days this week (so so excited!!!) of itch free, the nights still bug me. But I have greatly improved the past couple of months.

Perhaps you should also consider some other foods that affect your GI? Do you keep a food/symptom diary?

My serious GI symptoms aren't bad, like the heartburn, stomach rumbling, and indigestion stopped first, but sometimes some foods I eat make my insides feel like they are burning still. My anxiety went away and my mood is better. I was pretty health conscious before all this, so I have always kept food diaries. I was looking through some old ones and I can see why I got sick. Gluten pretty much dominated ever meal. Whole wheat wraps, deli thins, whole grain waffles, and Wheatables. Those were my ultimate downfall.

They may have been your downfall but now you are on the up and up. So many questions answered for you :)

If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people. This article may also be helpful as it offers various ways to relieve the itch:

You might also consider a low iodine diet as iodine is know to exacerbate dermatitis herpetiformis. But be careful with that as well as there are health problems that can accrue from iodine deficiency.

Hi, Yes, the rash has gone. I still get the itches but there is nothing to see now, apart from a lot of discoloured areas where the rash was worst. Occasionally I get a single lump come up, a bit like hives, but no bigger than a pea and it goes after 24hrs and a steroid cream application.  And yes, giving the gluten-free diet 110%. Very careful about any cross contamination.  This is my fifth autoimmune condition so well and truly on that bandwagon.

Welcome to the the celiac.com community, @suek54! Is the Dapsone getting the rash under control? Are you practicing a gluten free diet yet? The only known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis is celiac disease.
