Need Advise On What Tests To Suggest To Pediatrician

Hi Everyone

I am a very infrequent poster but I am in need of some help.

I have Celiac Disease - dx 5 years ago and I am now concerned about my 2. 5 year old. He has always been in the 50% for growth since birth and really isn't seeming to lose any weight but he is having some other symptoms that concern me -- very frequent, loose BM's (3-4 a day) that are seriously foul, very pale, bruises very easily and significantly, muscle tone is really not present.

So as we all know how the medical community is seriously lacking when it comes to Celiac disease...I made an appointment with his regular Pediatrician next week and I am thinking that we should start with blood work? From what I have read it is often inconclusive for many folks so I am concerned about that to start. What should I tell my Pediatrician (other than what is obvious here) for what blood work I would like to have them run?

My dx was kind of backwards...I had been suffering from acid reflux for a long time and on med's for it...then later became sick -- Had a biopsy FIRST and was dx that way. So no blood work happened. Not sure really what to do for my son but would rather he be dx sooner than later so I can make sure I can keep my little guy going strong and not suffer needlessly. :)

Thanks

Kris

I would just honestly ask for a refferal to a GI. Peds are for the common childhood things, not a GI disorder that will need followed by a GI.

My pediatrician wouldn't even test my children, she sent us to a pediatric GI. This can take time to get in, so I agree, I would honestly just begin there to start with.

Good luck!

Going on a cruise next week and I’m a celiac. Bought a bottle of GliandinX. Should I just take two tablets per day as a precaution? Never tried this before!! Any help is appreciated!!

Good point, as thyroid conditions are more common in those with celiac disease: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/celiac-disease-amp-related-diseases-and-disorders/thyroid-pancreatic-disorders-and-celiac-disease/
