ARCHIVED Testing Negative But Positive Symptons
melie replied to Jeeplady's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I read somewhere that the only two Labs that should be used for Celiac blood testing are Prometheus and Mayo Clinic, the others just don't have enough expertise. I am twice negative on blood tests, postive on Enterolab, positive dietary response after 4 days, that's all I needed to know. I am hoping someday the medical community will give up its insistence... -
ARCHIVED The New Kinnikinnick Waffles
melie replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the info! I was just on their website and saw them and hesitated to order them, now I will from your testimonial, I am ready for a WOW waffle experience. I just ordered 6 bags of various flavors of their donuts, can you tell I'm in a comfort food/sugar mood? I'm counting the days til they arrive! I also ordered their cinnamon buns which I have... -
ARCHIVED Be Careful At Pf Chang's!
melie replied to cynicaltomorrow's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Here's my trick for ordering the Chicken lettuce wraps at PF Changs, I think I learned it here: Order the crunchy/crispy rice noodles on the side, this will make them look visually different from all the orders of regular ones, they sell so many of these I can see how they could get mixed up in the kitchen. So if you order them 'gluten free, noodles on... -
Maggiano's Italian in Bellevue also has Gluten Free pasta, in my experience they have been knowledgeable and carefull. Melie

I had the best experience at the Maggiano's in King of Prussia, PA. I was ordering the Shrimp Scampi '"without the linguini because I can't eat wheat'' when the waiter said, "We have gluten free pasta if you'd like" I just about fell out of my chair, because there was no mention on the menu of gluten free options. He talked to the chef, who made me a custom...

ARCHIVED Jay Robb's Egg White Protein Powder
melie replied to lynne502's topic in Sports and Fitness
carolbond.com, a health food store in TX with mail order, their customer service is awesome, they have called me when I've ordered both the egg white and whey powders just to make sure I knew that I had done that...very attentive. -
Mine's not a nickname either but I describe the event as "I had a drive-by glutening''

Omelettes and salads are good bets over there. The Lyon region is also well known for its sausages and in general its cuisine gets high marks in France. Evidently you can find gluten free items in the major grocery stores. I only traveled there pre diagnosis so I don't have personal experience. I have seen some dining cards with terribly translated French...

ARCHIVED Jay Robb's Egg White Protein Powder
melie replied to lynne502's topic in Sports and Fitness
I have tried the egg white Jay Robb powders in Vanilla and Chocolate. The vanilla smells just like cake batter! I preferred the chocolate, but found his whey powder to have a better taste and consistency. Adding a banana helps pump up the volume. I would rate them ''Acceptable'' but not Yummmmmy! Melie -
ARCHIVED I Had A Beer In A Public Place!
melie replied to gdobson's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
That is so awesome! I am going to Busch Gardens Williamsburg this summer, and I will contact them to get a gluten free foods list like you did, it didn't even occur to me that they may have one. Melie -

ARCHIVED Chocolate Frosted Donuts....yum!
melie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just had to share my love of Kinnikinnick's chocolate frosted donuts, they are my one sinful treat that I don't think reeks of gluten freeness! They also make cinnamon sugar, maple frosted, chocolate glazed, and vanilla frosted. I found them in the freezer section of my health food store (See, donuts ARE a health food!!) They can also be ordered from... -
ARCHIVED Length Of Post Glutening Suffering...one Week Or More
melie posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just wondering if anyone can reassure me this can be normal for a single exposure to gluten. It's like my innards are going haywire trying to cope with it and it sets off some kind of inflamed response and my body can't return to its normal state. I never used to have D pre diagnosis, and in fact this never happened until 1 year after being gluten-free... -
All of Jay Robb's protein powders are gluten free...I like the chocolate and vanilla whey powders the best, they also have chocolate and vanilla egg whilte protein...the powders smell like cake batter! But they aren't quite as tasty as the whey ones. The whey also comes in Strawberry, and maybe some other flavors, also unflavored. He also makes some protein...

I second the Hammer Nutrition recommendation! Love their line of products, Sustained Energy, Recoverite, Energy Gel, Perpetuem. All easy on the stomach. My stomach was totally messed up this week so I went to a bland/soft diet, applesauce, mashed potatoes, broth, bananas, camomile tea. And Kaopectate! Things are slowly returning to normal, but it...

ARCHIVED Share Your Best Post-glutening Remedies
melie replied to melie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
On average, how many days after a glutening do you suffer? It used to be less than one day for me, but now on up to a week, I keep thinking it would be washed from my body early on, and the last several days is just the bowels being cranky and irritable because there was gluten in there, an 'overreaction' that they have to recover from. Insights? I... -
ARCHIVED Share Your Best Post-glutening Remedies
melie replied to melie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, the Immodium wore off, and guess what....back to D! So frustrating! I can't believe how long a post-glutening reaction can go on for...is this common? I seem to recall others saying they suffered for a week after a glutening, I used to be skeptical about that, but no more!! Melie -
Hi, After having two hair raising bouts of D, (10 days one time!) from Gluten exposure, I seem to be getting more sensitive to gluten as time goes on (now one year gluten free!) I have never had such severe reactions and would like to know what people do to get back to normal, bowel wise. Does anyone else have such long and severe reactions to gluten...

From a recent study reported in 'Gut' Celiac.com 01/11/2007 ďż˝ Researchers in Finland have determined that many patients with untreated celiac disease show the presence of intestinal endomysial autoantibodies (EmA), even in the 10-20% of cases where their serum EmA is negative. The researchers also believe that the negative serum EmA test in these cases i...

This is the response I got from Ruby Tuesday when I emailed them to send me a list of gluten free items on their menu: This is in response to your communication to us regarding potential allergic reactions to the food we serve. We appreciate and understand your request for information. Unfortunately Ruby Tuesday does not and cannot supply a listing of...

ARCHIVED Passover Is In 3 Weeks
melie replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone tried the gluten free oat matzos from England? I ordered a box, and they are breathtakingly expensive, but I figured they are worth it because I won't be morbidly depressed missing my Hillel sandwich on Pesach! In fact, my last ''gluteny'' meal was Passover of last year, sniff! -
Yes, I have been doing it for about 5 years now...my light box comes out between November 1 and December 1 (whenever I start feeling the slide downward) and I can put it away usually by the first week of March. I sit in front of mine 1/2 hour per day, in the morning after waking. You have to be right in front of it, directly or semi-directly gazing at the...

I hadn't thought about the dust etc. They were putting in hardwood floors, so ripping up padding and carpet, linoleum and plywood. I wouldn't think any of those things would have gluten, but gosh its everywhere you wouldn't suspect. Great suggestion about washing everything. I will do that. Thanks!
