  1. Ditto on the Rainbow Bridge poem! So, so sorry for your loss. We just lost our 12 year old dog and it was a very sad day for us and the kids. I found a bunch of poems and funny stories on the internet that we shared with the kids to put a smile back on their face. I was reading all the dog ones, but I'm sure there are plenty out there for all pets. ...
  2. All 3 of our kids, me and my husband are all on med's right now for different things from tennis elbow to back pain, allergies and related problems for the 3 kids, antibiotics for one of them, GERD medicine for 2 of them, constipation, and the list goes on. We've been to the doctor almost every day for the last 3 weeks now for at least one of us. ...
  3. I wish I knew enough about it to help you out. I'm not an allergy expert, but I don't think the scratch test is the most accurate, just more of a starting point. There are some people on this board who know a lot about this though, so hopefully, you'll get some help. Just to give you an example though, my son had been vomiting within seconds of drinking...
  4. Susan, Thanks for the info! I'm still new enought that it never would've even crossed my mind about PB&J's getting on doorknobs, etc. in elementary school. That's scary! Do you have any idea why peanuts and beestings can get worse while other types of allergies can get better? Also, what about tree nuts? worse or better? Thanks for your input...
  5. Interesting....is this common to have the allergy to the other things associated with it? If he's allergic to peanuts and all tree nuts, which fruits should I be concerned about?
  6. I guess I'm not sure what exactly is considered a tree nut, but these are the foods/drinks we know for sure he's allergic to based on blood work: Peanuts, almonds, brazil nut, cashew, coconut, pecan, sesame, walnut, hazelnut, pistachio, sunflower, macadamia, egg, and milk We are testing tomorrow for soy and wheat and maybe others after talking to...
  7. I never knew there was such a thing. He won't eat regular peas, flat out refuses them, but never had a reaction that I can remember from eating them when he was a baby. He had hives every day though until recently, so who knows. I'd be willing to try it though. Can you buy it at Whole Foods? Thanks for the suggestion!
  8. My 2 year old is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, hazelnut, pistachio and sunflower, but I never would've known had he not been tested. He had been eating peanut butter on crackers, toast, sandwiches, etc. for at least 6 months without any noticeable symptoms and having it almost every day as it was one of the few things I could count on that he would eat...
  9. I was actually getting excited to try sunbutter, but looked at his list of things he's allergic to again and sunflower is on there as moderate-high positive. Hazelnut, pistachio, and sunflower are all on a separate sheet by a different lab than the other nuts, so maybe this was done in addition to the peanut/tree nut panel. I always thought it was just...
  10. We don't carry an epipen. OUr allergy dr. said that his test results, although high on everything, do not show anaphalactic levels. So are you saying that he could all of a sudden have this kind of reaction to something he's already been eating? I am very careful never to give him something new when we're away from home or getting ready to go somewhere...
  11. We are giving him the prevacid...not sure how long it takes to see improvement. It's been 5 days now and he woke up from nap today crying, burping and farting. I'm not even sure which other symptoms are related to this, so I'll just have to kind of watch and see. This lasted about 45 minutes, then he seemed normal again. Good news though, he's taking...
  12. Looking at your bio, I'd definitely check into it. I read something about being allergic to most if not all foods having to do with this disorder. You can also have this in other places, such as your stomache, not just the esophagus. Have you found many different ways of eating the things you can or is it pretty much the same thing every day? That's where...
  13. We had no family history of food allergies (that we knew of) whatsoever prior to this. I knew very little about allergies. I was recently diagnosed with asthma and had excema as a child, but never even thought about holding off on allergenic foods. Problems with him started as soon as we introduced solids, but the pediatrician never suggested seeing an allergist...
  14. My son's symptoms (celiac, EE, neither, both????) ...failure to thrive, really bad constipation for 1 1/2 years (only going every 3-5 days), with 2 bouts of diahrrea that lasted about 3 weeks each, hives every day since we introduced solids (these have subsided quite a bit since starting on zyrtec though), irritable, walked at 17 1/2 months (not sure if...
  15. I am very anxious to see the difference once going gluten free...it's nice to hear what a difference it made for your daughter! I kinda wondered about the pickiness being related to him knowing what's best for him. IT's just so hard to tell when they're too young to tell you. As far as being a slow eater, I timed him this morning. It took 50 minutes...
  16. It sure sounds like the same thing and the dr. put my son on prevacid also. In my on-going reading about EE, I think I sw somewhere that it's allergy related and can be helped by taking these items out of the diet; however, environmental allergies can do it, too. What things was your child tested for? Don't feel terrible....it sounds like you did exactly...
  17. Isn't it strange how once you hear about something new, it starts popping up everywhere? Maybe we just never noticed it before. My son often times puts his hand in his mouth and looks like he's trying to scratch his tongue or something and says "spicy." I mentioned this to the allergy dr. way back when, thinking it was allergy related and maybe his...
  18. My son also had high IgG and the others were normal. The allergy doctor who read the tests recommended we see a GI dr for "possible" celiac. The GI dr. isn't ruling out celiac, but said that high IgG can mean celiac, but can also just mean that they have allergies. She recommended to us to have more allergy testing done (already did the basic panel). ...

    ARCHIVED Welts

The big welts soundlike hives to me. Hives can be small or large, can come 1 at a time or 100 at a time, can stay for a while or disappear quickly. I had 1-2 inch diameter hives all over my body several times (never did find out what from), but the description you gave about walking on golf balls was exactly how I felt. They are unbelievably itchy and...
  20. Potatoes...you can cook them so many different ways. I made breakfast potatoes, baked potatoes and homemade potato soup. Speaking of soup, that was another ok food for me. Lastly, like other people mentioned, smoothies. I was very sick during my pregnancy and had trouble holding anything down, food or fluids. One thing they told me in the hospital though...
  21. OUr allergy dr. explained that they usually do the skin test first and based on what they find, do blood tests. It would require a lot of blood draws to test for everythign that they do on a skin test, so basically they will use the blood to confirm or get better results on anything you were allergic to on the skin, but won't have to waste blood on things...
  22. I never heard that you should wait until they're 3 to have peanut butter. I knew about milk, honey, shellfish, choking things like popcorn, hotdogs, raisins, etc., but never heard this one until now. He's been having it for at least 6 months, maybe longer. I always spread it extremely thin on bread or crackers, not like I would make it for myself or...
  23. I will check out that website, thank you! And thanks for the prayers, too! I think my son is too picky to begin with, and with fewer choices, I just feel like I'm running out of options. Thanks for the ideas though. Sorry about your son being allergic to so many things, but glad that it sounds like you guys are adapting well. I figured...
  24. Thank you! Yes, I'm so torn on everything just like you said. It's so hard. I've researched everything for countless hours and weighed everything. I do feel better waiting for the biopsies at this point, but I absolutely will be trying the gluten-free diet after that regardless of what they say. Thanks for all the info. I appreciate it!
