  1. Hi lindalee, So sorry to hear that you're having a lower backache In the past I have had a lot of trouble with my lower back and it's no fun. Riding in the car was the worst irritant. I used to put a small pillow behind my back just above my butt for some lumbar support and that seemed to help. Before going gluten-free when I would go to a family...
  2. That sounds wonderful. I've been dreading the upcoming holidays. Could you post the recipe?
  3. I've never tried tortilla chips but I bet it would be just as good.
  4. Here's an easy recipe for "cookies" that kids love and I've had it since before going gluten-free. 1 large bag Freetos corn chips 1 C light corn syrup 1 C sugar 1 C peanut butter Dump the corn chips onto a cookie sheet. Mix corn syrup and sugar in saucepan and cook just until it comes to full boil. Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter. Drizzle...
  5. Could trace amounts of gluten cause this hungry sensation?? I had it continually when I first cut out gluten. At the time I didn't know that Quaker rice cakes can be CC and was eating them at almost every meal. I was starving all the time. Since I have cut out those rice cakes the hunger has gone away (except when I haven't eaten in awhile - of course...
  6. Thanks for the info! Do you know if Hidden Valley Ranch dressing or dip mix is gluten-free. I read the label and don't see anything incriminating but I read on another post that it's not gluten-free.
  7. OK, question. Is it true that Kraft and Unilever and a few other manufacturers will label allergens? So does this mean that the "modified food starch" on their labels will definitely state if it is wheat? If it doesn't say does that mean it's corn? This can be sooo confusing . Just when I think I'm getting a handle on it I get glutened!!
  8. So sorry to hear you're not feeling well. This has probably already been checked - but sometimes the obvious can be overlooked. Have they checked your thyroid? When I was first diagnosed with hypothyroid I was barely able to stand long enough to make dinner because I was so exhausted. Hope you get some answers and feel better soon.
  9. RebeccaMSL, Hi I'm a newbie - only gluten-free since 8/7/06. I have noticed that I am super sensitive to gluten since going gluten-free. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I can't understand why - unless it's because my intestines are starting to heal and a minor amount of gluten triggers severe symptoms now. I guess I'm not much help -just wanted...
  10. CarlaB, I'm so glad to hear that you were able to lower your thyroid medicine. I'm on a very high dosage (have been for a long time) and now I wonder if it's because I'm not absorbing it properly. Can't wait to have it checked again after being gluten-free for awhile.
  11. I'm just recently gluten free and I'm so glad I didn't have to give up a great steak and baked potato.
  12. Just a note of caution. Gatorade is high in sodium. Some of the runners on my daughter's cross country team were drinking it in excess and their blood pressure sky rocketed. Guess the saying is true.... all things in moderation. (except gluten... of course).
  13. I am sooo disappointed . After my call from One Source telling me that their vitamins are gluten-free, I went to buy some. Decided to read the label first. Next to last ingredient is GLUTEN!!! Not even disguised as some other term. It was listed under the "less than 2% of the following" part of the label. Maybe that is why the company rep told me...
  14. I just checked with One Source brand vitamins sold at Walmart and they told me that all of their vitamins are gluten free. I recommended to him that they put on their label "gluten-free". He told me that he has made that suggestion and they haven't done it so far. Hope this helps
  15. Hi Cheryl, Hope you find this forum helpful. However it can take a lot of time to find the info you need. Probably the best bet would be to contact the company. I have found that some of the websites address the gluten-free issue in their FAQ. I'm not sure where I found it on here but someone posted that Fructisse products are not gluten-free and...
  16. I'm a newbie and I have a question about being glutened. Do you have immediate symptoms - while you're eating- or does it take awhile? I was at a family reunion and ate something that I thought would be gluten-free and was eating it very slowly. I started having stomach pains and rumbling. Is this "normal"? (I know that's a relative term)
  17. How long did it take for your gerd to clear up? I have been on Prilosec OTC for quite awhile. I've only been gluten free for a week or so and I'm wondering when I could wean myself off the Prilosec without being up all night with heartburn. Any ideas?
  18. I am soooo glad to hear that!! I have only been gluten free for a whopping 48 hours!!! However, I have been STARVING. I'm trying to avoid anything processed. After reading a few of the posts, I think I probably need more protein. I am very hopeful that I will lose some weight and then have things balance out. I am learning from many of you to avoid the...
  19. I highly recommend this article from the newsletter. It's what made me decide to be tested. https://www.celiac.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_...347&p_catid
  20. Oh my gosh!!! I have been losing handfuls of hair everytime I shampoo!!! for several years. Thankfully I have very thick hair and it is not noticeable. I can't wait until I've been gluten-free for several months to see if it helps. By the way, what ingredients do you avoid in hair products???
  21. I can relate to your wanting a definite dx. I know we shouldn't worry about what others think but I know my family (not my husband & kids - but my in-laws and such) will think I'm just on another crazy diet like Atkins. I think I'll just tell them that I have been diagnosed. How will they know the difference.
  22. I have just recently been researching celiac disease and have found this message board to be very helpful. I am currenly being tested and have had a negative blood test. I'm not sure if I'll have a biopsy or just go gluten-free. Several of the posts that I have read here tell of people having either D, C or both alternating. I personally have a problem...
  23. It was amazing. I only ate when I was hungry. No more cravings. I had no bloating and my knees and back felt 100% better. I ended up going off it after some complications from my gall bladder removal and the hospital put me on a clear liquid diet (all sugar!!! which is a major no-no on Atkins) I tried to go back on it when I started gaining the weight...
  24. Hi all! First I just want you to know that I have found this message board very informative. Here's a short bio. Older sister diagnosed by positive blood tests and positive biopsy. She recommended that I be tested as I have many symptoms (bloating, joint pain, thyroid, depression, gall bladder, headaches - just to name a few!!). After much research...
