  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. Get the book Gluten free living for Dummies and send it to her. Also is there a local group in her area? I am a member of the Alamo Celiac here in Texas and for a $20 annual fee I get monthly newsletters with a ton of information and great info at that? Maybe that's the way to go. I'd also suggest she meet with a GI doctor that knows a lot about Celiac...
  3. Here is the e-mail I sent out to my family and friends when my daughter was diagnosed at 18 months: "Here is the technical mumbo-jumbo: When anyone (even people without Celiac disease) eats gluten containing products it causes our bodies to produce an excess amount of zonulin. (A protein found in our small intestine that basically works as a doorman...
  4. I agree with what everyone else said... I was also wondering if they have checked her out for rotavirus
  5. My daughter is now 4. She was diagnosed at 18 months old. I can tell you that the first month was stressful because of the huge learning curve but since then its been a breeze I was actually watching my daughter the other day munching down on a super juicy plum and some cheese while other kids were eating ritz crackers and peanut butter and I realized...
  6. Finding out if celiac disease is a possibility in the future of a child can dramatically change the course a parent takes with said child. As in our case because of this information we have chosen not to give him gluten for the foreseeable future. I do not consider this "Overusing my insurance" by any means.
  7. It is a lot of $$ if your insurance doesn't cover it but mine was covered 100% so I figgured what the heck... I think its smart to at least check with your insurance.
  8. I'm not so much of an expert but I can tell you that I followed the American Pediatric guidelines for my daughter and introduced gluten grains around 6 months of age.... she developed celaic when she was 18 months. My son is now 6 months old and he has the genetic marker for celiac disease. Because of this we are keeping him gluten free for the foreseeable...
  9. There is a new study that took infants who had 1st degree relatives with celiac disease and 1/2 of them were given gluten at the recommended age of 6 months and the other 1/2 were not given any gluten until after they had turned 1 year old. 100% of the children who did not get gluten until after 1 year old have not developed celiac disease yet (I say yet...
  10. My 4 year old daughter was diagnosed at 18 months and she has been gluten free ever since. I now have a 6 month old boy who carries one of the genes for Celiac Disease and puts him at a 40% chance of developing it some day (ant a 60% chance of him not). We have chosen to keep him gluten free until he requests something different, at that point in time we...
  11. I highly recomend Gluten Free Living for Dummies ... it helps to take some of the fear away from what yuo read on some websites!
  12. Happy 1 year anniversary! We celebrate this in our house almost like a birthday with cake and an amazing delicious gluten free dinner... its always great to celebrate being healthy!
  13. If I had to do it all over agin I never would have let them do the biopsy on my 18 month old. No, you aren't a bad mom... and your gut feeling is ALWAYS right !
  14. I have supplemented DHA her entire life I don't know if it "helps" anything but it doesn't hurt anything either! All the research I have seen seems to point in the helps category.
  15. You know I do exactly what you did... I say "No thanks, my daughter can't eat gluten." Sometimes it leads to a conversation bout Celiac and some times it doesnt
  16. There is a new study out that took children who had 1st degree relatives with Celiac disease and introduced 1/2 of them to gluten at 4-6 months just as recommended and the other kids were not introduced to gluten until after their 1st birthday. Some of the kids that were introduced to gluten at 4-6 months have developed Celiac Disease 100% of those...
  17. I have had great success eating out with my daughter, she has been glutned a few times but only at places that have "gluten free menus" go figgure. I highly recommend getting dining cards I have the triumph ones... these help me when I am a t a new place. Here is typically what we get at new places: Cheeseburger with a "lettuce" bun Grilled...
  18. My daughter was diagnosed at 18 months old. our house is what I call "gluten free" meaning that all the meals we eat together are gluten free.... because I have no intention on cooking 2 different meals. My husband has gluten bread for his lunches at work and if we have Hamburgers we have real buns and she either goes with out a bun or has a gluten free...
  19. My 3 nearly 4 year old daughter has Celiac Disease and I have a 3 month old baby boy I have EVERY intention of keeping him gluten free as long as I can. At home for sure.... what she eat's he will eat... because its easier that way on me and on them. I did order the genetic test for my son to know if its a possibility... that way when he is older and away...
  20. Have you guys read this article in the Open Original Shared Link
  21. I'm not sure what part develops when but most kids make gains in one area at a time in learning (I'm an English teacher ... or was before my daughter was born). It's possible that she is making her educational gains in math skills, language skills, drawing etc and the rest is lacking right now.... if that's the case it will all eventually level out. ...
  22. Around 18 months old my daughter vomited one night for no reason... I attributed it to over heating and moved on. Several days later it happened again, and then a few days after that it happened one more time. So I called her Dr. and got her in right away. We decided it was post nasal drainage causing the problem and put her on meds for allergies. ...
  23. darn I thought I could edit a post... must be a different msg board... anyhow here is the correct Open Original Shared Link
  24. I'm not a confrontational person but I was a teacher and know way to much about what MIGHT happen (as you say in emergency situations or with other teachers) I am going address the 504 issue saying things like: I want everyone that comes in contact with her to be on the same page from Substitutes to school nurses and I want a 504 in place so that later...
  25. It depend son the district.... some districts (though most do not) can deny a 504 plan even with a Dr. note.... but in most cases a Dr. note and RX would be sufficient enough
