ARCHIVED Help-any Suggestions?
Kibbie replied to linsmad's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was 18 months old when she was diagnosed and we were sent to a pediatric GI. We did do an endoscopy and up until recently I felt like I should have stuck to my guns and said no to that. Now I am starting to have a change of heart knowing that we have actual "gold standard" proof for when she is older is kind of comforting at this point. ... -
ARCHIVED Casein In Breast Milk
Kibbie replied to fixerch's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I nursed my daughter for a little over a year and typically my causes for blocked ducks (the 3 times I had them) were from nursing in the same position all the time. Once I switched it up for feedings I didn't have a problem anymore. I was told the more positions you use and making sure you have nursed completely (the baby has drained you) the less likely... -
ARCHIVED Breastfed Baby = Celiac?
Kibbie replied to jen-r's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I honestly believe that usually the parents gut feeling is the correct one. Are you dealing with your regular pediatrician or a GI Dr? That can make the difference. My pediatrician has flat out told me that she really knew nothing about Celiac disease when my daughter was diagnosed and my primary care physician was chalk full of bad and wrong information... -
ARCHIVED Explaining Celiac To People
Kibbie replied to Breila's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I need a quick clear cut reason for someone like a waitress (a person I probably will never run into again) I always use the term "Sever Allergy" because that gets my point that it has to be gluten free across most effectively. For someone who would see my daughter regularly I give them this "lecture" (for lack of a better term) *most o the info... -
ARCHIVED 10 Year Old Daughter Cheating On Her Diet?!?!?
Kibbie replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 3 year old ate a friends Macaroni and cheese after I told her not to and I made things as miserable for her as I could when she was sick. If she wanted to be held, I wouldn't, if she wanted to watch tv, I didn't let her, and I always said "No I wont let you do that because you ate gluten after mommy told you not to and it made you sick you can't do _... -

ARCHIVED Parenting 101 Questions?
Kibbie replied to okgrace's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'd also try giving her some binding foods like bananas, probiotics (careful with the yogurt or pill form if you think lactose is an issue some of them contain lactose), blueberries, low fiber foods, carob flour added to applesauce, also look for pectin rich foods like pears, apples, grapefruit, carrots, potatoes, and beets, plus removing as much fat from... -
ARCHIVED Fast Food Choices?
Kibbie replied to todzwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I avoid most of them unless I have other options: (Not just for gluten reasons mainly for health reasons) I've never been to Burger King with my daughter sincd Dx but we have done McDonalds (grilled chicken breast and side of fruit) in a happy meal bag and she was fine. I use the word ALLERGY there because they seem to understand its serious when I say... -

About 4 months after my daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease my grandfather went in for testing. He had been experiencing symptoms for about 5 years but the Dr.s always attributed it to side effects of his random assortment of medicines (he was 89 at the time) He tested positive for celiac disease My husbands side of the family has sketchy history... -

I'm in Austin and Alamoceliac.com is a good place to start though I know there is a ROCK group in Dallas too. (my daughter is 3) There is not requirement that childcare facilities must be educated/trained on this disease it is treated much the same as a food allergy and Diabetes... it is up to the parents/student to provide the information and education... -

Kibbie replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was a super active kid too, I walked or rode my bike to school, I did synchronized swimming for a jr olympic team. Practices in the morning before school, and then did weights after school, and mroe practice on the weekend. In the summer I practiced either doing laps, figures, or weight training for about 6 hours a day and was in marching band, and... -
ARCHIVED Bad Weekend
Kibbie replied to mcs1984's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Open Original Shared Link That is the link (you can order the test with or with out a Dr. My insurance covers it with a Dr.s order so I'll wait for that) Basically by doing the gene test you can tell if your child has the genes that can "turn on" and become Celiac Disease. If the test comes back negative, then there is no way your child could have... -
ARCHIVED I Think My Dd Has Adhd
Kibbie replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can tell you that my daughter is insane when she gets glutened. I've said it before... its like she is possessed. So I see how glutening can make things worse for all kids. I found out recently that a good friend of mine in high school who suffered from bi-polar, was diagnosed with celiac disease after about a year of being gluten-free she was able... -

As soon as I found out the gluten may be the culprit of my daughters issues I kep her gluten light (I mean super gluten light) I gave her 1 saltine cracker a day and thats it. My daughters symptoms are vomiting and insane behavior. Seriously its like she is possessed when she gets gluten its horrible. I'm currently pregnant and my pediatrician will... -
ARCHIVED School - I Need To Vent
Kibbie replied to ckmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If your daughter couldn't eat her donuts because the rest of the class didn't have them... then they shouldn't have been able to eat them because she didn't have them... end of story! If her teacher had let her eat them the day before I wouldn't have as much of an issue with it but this seems like a double standard. -
My daughter had her 3 year old checkup yesterday her stats: 40lbs (97%) 39.5 inches (95%) Healthy, soft tummy, blood work was great... normal little girl! Back where the Dr wanted her on the charts and everything! (she was 10lbs and 22 inches when she was born so big baby) Now today we are dealing with a self glutening. She has a...

Cheers to you for deciding to BF your daughter. I Bf'd for a little over a year (though I do not have celiac disease). What you are explaining has happened to many moms that I know who don't have celiac disease. Have you though aobut contacting your local la leche league to see if they have any ideas of how to help you? They were a big source of help... -
ARCHIVED Transitioning...
Kibbie replied to stolly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
MY daughter was diagnosed at 18 months (she'll be 3 tomorrow) and it wasnt until just about a month ago that my daughter started to eat the "gluten free" substitutes. She would turn her head away from bread, waffles, cookies etc for the longest time. Half of the time I wondered if somehow she knew it made her sick before. For the longest time her daily... -
ARCHIVED Asberger's And Celiac Disease
Kibbie replied to mochalatta's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was actually talking about this with my pediatrician yesterday. Her son is autistic (mild form) and she is thinking about the gluten casein free diet. She asked me what happens to my daughter when she gets "glutened" and I told her that she is nearly impossible to live with. Shes defiant, violent, rude, just plane horrible when she gets gluten. And... -
