  1. Let me say that I was a public school teacher before I had my daughter. Because of this I know WAY too much about how school is run and it scares me That being said I am already planning on requesting a 504 plan for her BEFORE she starts kinder. (You want this in place as soon as possible and it takes some time to get in place so the sooner you get...
  2. Our dietitian told me to give my daughter 2 pediasures a day for the first month going gluten free.... she did fine with it, but that was 2 years ago they may have changed the formula.
  3. I have my mom to thank for this.... here is what we do We do the regular trick or treat thing and she gets all types of candy. When we get home we sort through the candy making piles.... gluten free and not gluten free. We put the "gluten candy" in a bag and leave it on the door step for the Great Pumpkin who comes and takes it after she falls...
  4. I'd wait at least 6 months to give everything a chance to heal just in case there is some issue. 2 years ago oatmeal was the only thing I could keep in my daugher before she was diagnosed. We went completely off of it until recently when I have started adding it in little by little to see if there is a reaction. (the gluten free kind) My daughter...
  5. MY husband sounds like yours but since its eat the gluten free meal or starve hes decided to eat the gluten-free meal LOL Anyhow we make sure to eat foods that have gluten in them in front of our daughter as well... I think that not introducing our child to the fact that other peoples foods are off limits is a BAD idea so when ever I don't have to...
  6. I'm not Jewish my neighbor is a Rabi with a child who has multiple food allergies (wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, and nuts) they are Kosher. I was discussing this topic with him and he says they typically eat rice crackers instead of bread as a family (his entire family eats the same meal always). He suggested talking to your Rabi about what can do to help...
  7. A friend of mine in HS ended up dropping otu of the university because she was so depressed she couldn't function. (she even attempted suicide 2 times). We are both in our early 30's now and she found out 3 years ago that she has Celiac.... after sometime going gluten free she has been off her anti depression meds and has finished school.... she will tell...
  8. My 3 year old has been gluten free for nearly 2 years now and has just recently been saying that "when she grows up" she can eat gluten free like __________. (any person will do at this point with her). This is since being around my sisters girls and starting preschool... I think now they are finally realizing that what they are eating is somehow different...
  9. MY dd was diagnosed at 18 months old... she was born weight 10lbs and was off the charts in height too. From the first noticeable" symptom" to diagnosis was about 1 month and she had dropped from the 98% in weight to the 50% (I only know this because her 18 month apt was the day before her biopsy and I remember looking at the sharp turn on her chart and...
  10. My daughters TTG's were checked 3 months after going on the diet and now she gets check each year.... if she is getting gluten from somewhere it will show up there.
  11. I LOVE Tom Sawyer Flour its pricy but all my Christmas cookies and other family recipies I'm able to substitute it 1 cup for 1 cup and they turn out great. glutenfreeflour.com
  12. My 3 year old has next to no reaction unless she eats a lot of gluten.... it took an entire bowl of regular macaroni and cheese for her to have a full blown reaction. We have been on the diet for nearly 2 years now. My sister fed her some cereal that was full of gluten (2nd ingredient was wheat) she noticed after the 4th spoonful and we never saw a...
  13. Yes actually the do have to provide a gluten free lunch that does not mean that you won;t have to pay for it. (I looked in to this with help from a friend who is an advocate for children with autism) Anyhow I'm using this information more as a "Hey I could be requesting that you guys do this but instead I'm only requesting that you make accommodations...
  14. My friends allergist told her that it can take up to a month for our bodies to be free of an allergen so it can cake up to a month for breast milk to be completely free of it as well.
  15. Here is the recipe I use for cake: (I always use Tom Sawyer Flour because I have great luck with it) I also cool and freeze the cake several days before I frost it and then I let it thaw out and do a crumb coat and once that is dry a second coat of frosting. (This is the way my grandma always did it with full of gluten cakes so I just do it that way naturally...
  16. I go all out for birthday cakes and buy the best quality ingrediants I can (baked goods are a special treat in my house so I don't sweat all the artificial stuff) I use real chocolate, real Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, and then for icing colors I use the Wilton color gels. The way I see it is that since we avoid most of the artificial stuff the rest of...
  17. My daughter was diagnosed at 18 months and I nursed exclusively until we introduced solids at 6 months old. (then continued to nurse her until she was 13 months) Like you we held of on wheat products however but I did introduce oats to her diet around 7 or 8 months. She's always had skin issues even when she was only receiving breast milk. She gets...
  18. My daughter (3 years old) was diagnosed when she was 18 months old. I am currently pregnant again and my Pedi has order the Kimball Genetic cheek swab test for this next baby (due in October). Basically it doesn't test fo "celiac disease" it checks to see if they have a genetic chance of getting celiac disease. (Remember just because you have the genes...
  19. MY daughter is 3 as well and was diagnosed when she was 18 months old.... Here is what I stock up on: 1. Gluten Free Pasta (I prefer Quinoa or Brown Rice) 2. Corn Starch, Potato Starch/flour 3. Chi ken Broth 4. Canned tomato products 5. Corn Tortillas 6. Gluten free Breadcrumbs 7. Gluten Free Frozen Pizza for Emergencies Then the rest is typically...
  20. Are you doing the right thing?? Well any decision that improves your health, your unborn babies health, and your child's health in my opinion is the right decision, no matter what others even Dr.s may say. As far as going back on gluten after the baby is born that is completely up to you. Some people can accept positive results from a gluten free diet...
  21. MY friends son is Gluten free and Dairy free and no one knows if this probiotic is gluten free or not... do any of you? TIA
  22. Currently I'm 19 weeks pregnant and we have opted to have or next kid tested for the genes. This way we will know "if" periodic blood checks are needed or not. The Kimball genetics one is completely covered by our insurance you may want to check in to it.
  23. Yes it does! I am currently 19 weeks pregnant and because my 3 year old has celiac disease her pediatrician is ordering a genetic test for celiac disease to be done as soon as the baby arrives so that I will know if its a "possibility" this time around. So that I can make an informed decision about my breast feeding diet when the time comes. Anyhow huzzah...
  24. I know there are some people that can get sick when walking into a bakery with flour in the air but I have never heard of anyone getting sick from just being outside (when it comes to gluten anyhow). Now there may be other things in the air from a factory that might make her sick, chemical cleaning products...smoke... typical pollution stuff but not glutened...
  25. My daughter was diagnosed when she was 18 months old. Exactly 1 month to the day of diagnosis we were on a plane to Arizona headed for a family reunion road/camping trip. I feel your pain the first trip is always the hardest! My daughter is 3 now and has only been glutened 2 times 1 was her own doing and the other was a mess up at a restaurant. ...
