Yeah- Rice Dream says flavored with barley malt at the END of its list of ingredients. Hard to read and frustrating! I just tried the Almond Milk last night for the forst time and really liked it! -

Mtndog replied to rutland's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Wow Julie- Thanks...that was great! I'm having a hard time finding anything other than Rice Dream rice milk (which we can't have because it's not gluten-free) Who Makes a gluten-free rice milk? -

I'm kind of in the same boat as you guys- newly dairy free and also gluten, soy and legumes. One thing I did was buy a breadmaker so I could make my own bread- super easy and you can use an egg replacer (EnerG makes one). I made my first loaf yesterday- Gluten Free Pantry french bread mix with olive oil and I threw in some rosemary, thyme and oregano. Yum... -
ARCHIVED Lactose Breath Test
Mtndog posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a hydrogen breath test last Friday where you drink the lactose solution and they measure hydrogen levels in your breath. I found out I am definitely lactose intolerant, but I've been sick since saturday. I feel like heck! Anyone else have this happen? How long did it last? -
ARCHIVED 10 Things I Hate About Celiac
Mtndog replied to Mtndog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Honestly, the thing that bugs me the most is trying SO hard and being So careful and still getting sick and not knowing why I think it's pretty valid to be darn angry when people don't ATTEMPT to understand OR they maliciously try to prove you're not sick. There's a thread on here about someone whose spouse put gluten in the food just to prove he/she... -

You guys inspired me...just bought "running with Scissors" (read an excerpt from my sister's copy- bizarre but funny! And I just bought Jodi Picoult's The Pact. Sounds sad but interesting! -
It's terrifying and tragic. I can't watch it- it brings Columbine back to me. The students I have now as college freshman in New Hampshire were in 8th grade when that happened (I was an 8th grade teacher at the time and will never forget that day). My prayers go out to everyone in the community. Julie-I am so sorry and glad that you are OK. Please keep...

  As far as the oj goes, when I first went gluten-free in 2005, Tropicana wouldn't guarantee the gluten-free status of their products, except the 100% pure premium juices, with the exception of two of their plants. I drank Tropicana lemonade and barfed my guts out for two days. Now I won't buy any of their products on principal. -

Oh gosh...so many! I loved The Good earth. I really liked My Sister's Keeper and Salem falls by Jodi Picoult, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. Actually, I really like historical fiction. Secret Life of Bees is great as is The Mermiad Chair by Sue Monk Kidd. I love Anita Shreve- I've read Light on Snow, The Last Time They Met, Sea Glass, The Weight of... -
ARCHIVED Just Bought A Breadmaker
Mtndog replied to Mtndog's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you for all the suggestions- I looked at Bread from anna but it's got a lot of legume flours like chickpea which I can' tolerate I heard it's awesome though! -
I'm about to delve into the world of making my own gluten-free bread in my new breadmaker. I want to start using mixes- I need gluten-free (of course) dairy and legume free recipes or mixes. How do Namaste, Pamela's or gluten-free Pantry mixes turn out in a breadmaker. I'm more interested in making focaccia like breads with onions, garlic, basil, sundried...

ARCHIVED Redbridge - What Does Gluten-free Mean Anheuser-busch?
Mtndog replied to rh4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OMG! Thank you for posting this. It was something I wondered about because I have enough Bard's Tale to last me 4 years right now (generous friends) but I was wondering about CC. You have saved me a reaction. I too think it's great that they make a gluten-free product but I know I couldn't drink it. -
I'm in this club too! I had very severe depression before going gluten-free and although I still take meds, at least they work now! My depression was very treatment resistant but it has gotten SO much better in my 2 years gluten-free that I rarely even think about it anymore. Of course, until I get glutened and then it's more mood swingy and grumpy...

Thank you Nikki! I need all the sympathy I can get....I'll miss dairy much more than gluten or soy! But hey- cosmopolitans and Namaste Blondies and Enjoy Life chocolate chips are all still in so like is good!

ARCHIVED Need Advice About Going Back To Work As A Teacher...
Mtndog replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is what I like least about celiac (or despise most) is that you never know how you're going to feel. But it does get better....really, it does. It's like anything chronic, you hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I'm still thinking on ideas for you about school. -

ARCHIVED A Celiac That Found He Could Eat Wheat Bread
Mtndog replied to Julie-uk-nz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED Need Advice About Going Back To Work As A Teacher...
Mtndog replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Walter- I saw this thread and immediately wanted to post. I taught middle school (and high school) for 10 years before I went back to school (for doctorate in education so now I'm teaching college) BUT the worst thing about teaching (which I truly loved!) was the lack of time to go to the bathroom- supposedly teachers get more urinary tract infections than... -

But it's not for you to decide how someone should feel about their family. You can't understand unless you have been in their shoes. If no GluGirl needs to get this out, she should feel free too.
