  1. He is getting the neuro symptoms from the DQ1 gene. I would personally save my sanity & forget about the diagnosis... The child has a major problem with gluten & dairy & the dietary trial will be your diagnosis. Do you want a happy healthy child or do you want to mess around with the medical community for the next 10 years & have residual...
  2. whew, glad to hear you are taking your house 100% gluten free, I think that is very important. Don't forget to get rid of the non-stick pans, I prefer stainless steel so did not have that problem. If you use cast iron, you will need to get new ones. You will also want to just get new cookie sheets, baking pans & muffin pans, in my opinion it is not...
  3. egads, I think that would be totally embarrassing for a teen boy, especially a boy. what about the other suggestions that have been given here? & I also suggest to get the gluten out of the house. why do you even have it in the house? Gads, as much as I hate gluten & would never cheat I would never have it around the house, at a low point...
  4. Enterolab.com is where you want to go, they are based in Dallas, Texas - post about them are all over the board. IMO you should not feed your daughter gluten, unless you want her to end up like her dad with flattened villi or worse, at an earlier age.
  5. We do not hear of it much on here, because a lot of people are not posting but the doctors are now starting to use Enterolab...
  6. You will maybe get a diagnosis & maybe not & you will maybe get permanent damage from eating this gluten & maybe not. That is about all I know... Except, that I think this is the only disease known, where you are asked to nearly kill yourself to prove you have it. I mean, like, how dumb is that?
  7. hi thatchick... Yes, you will be a whole lot better off mentally & physically when you go gluten free. Have you contacted the Austin Celiac Support Group? You are lucky to be living in Austin, it is a very gluten free friendly place. Have you been to the gluten-free place on Bee Caves Road? Wildwood Art Cafe or something like that... Also, you...
  8. Just wanted to say you moms are doing the right thing. In my family it is the opposite, I am the gluten-free grandmother & they all think I am nuts, although I have a grandson that tested positive at Enterolab & has double DQ1 & had failure to thrive as an infant. he is 11 now. 3 years ago, I spent about $1000.00 for cookbooks, all tupperware...
  9. angry, moody, outbursts... is a common symptom in my family of double DQ1 people I take a b12 everyday you might try it, seems to even out the moodiness, but do not think it will do much for the gluten reaction - i get that also, I just want to crawl in a hole somewhere & stay there
  10. go grain free & processed food free then when you are okay see if you can add in some cooked rice & maybe cornmeal or corn tortillas. oh also dairy free
  11. It is written that 1% of biobsy positive celiac does not have DQ2 or DQ8. personnally I would like to see a "celiac/GlutenIntolerance" gene test on anyone that has an autoimmune illness, including cancer. I think that would be very interesting. wish we could get some big governmental useless organization to take on this study, they could string it...
  12. There is a lady that does not have MS any longer trying to get the word out to the MS people. She was posting on another board. You might check some of those boards for the specific illness... Most people, hard to believe though, are not on the internet. I know a lot of celiac people that are never on the internet. At the last dining out group (gluten...
  13. I went to a wedding last year at a country club & just took my own food, I did let the bride know that I would not be eating, so that she would not be charged for a meal for me. I am all for taking my food in those situations, once I have eaten something that has cross contamination issues it is too late. I say if you want to take your food, by all...
  14. I agree with all the other suggestions. You definitely should get this checked out. The only other thing that I would say is to start taking B12 (gluten-free of course) right away, while you are doing all the other stuff. B12 will not harm you & if you need it - could be a life saver...
  15. welcome to the forum, nice to see someone from Australia. I am thinking of visiting Australia next year. Do not have my plans worked out yet. But might be taking a vacation with my grown son. (leaving the daughter in law & kiddies at home!!!) Good Luck with the doctor's appointment. I hear they are pretty celaic savvy there.
  16. There is a lot that is not understood about the body & disease. It might appear that you have colitis when in fact you really just had celiac disease that looked like colitis. For every disease known to the medical community there has to have been at least one mis-diagnosis, just my guess. There is a lady now in our support group that had Crohns...
  17. contact your Dallas support group. They will have some info for you & the local restaurant information. I suggest for a bread substitute that you get some Mission Brand White Corn Tortillas
  18. I think you have found a good reason for a lot of your health issues. My sister has seizures (we do not usually say "fit" here in the U.S.) She also has rheumatoid arthritis & a bunch of other stuff but refuses to stay on the gluten free diet... she is 59. I totally understand how you are feeling & you are not alone. but you are fortunate that...
  19. Sorry Hathor, nothing directed at you, just ranting on with my frustration... I will PM you. There are several doctors besides Dr Fine that are studying gluten intolerance, none of which I know off the top of my head, sorry. The reason that you do not have any "official" sites to check for this information, is because we the DQ1 people have only recently...
  20. That list is not too bad & yes she will probably be able to eat some of those foods later on. when I was eating gluten and 24 years old, I had some allergy tests run on myself & my infant very ill son. Here is what I was allergic to: (I have double DQ1 genes) all citrus, tomatoes, peaches, potatoes, green peas, split peas, pork, beef, mushrooms...
  21. Here is what I think: 100% gluten free with no issues of cross contamination 100% dairy free NO GRAINS - except for some rice & maybe later some corn NO processed Foods NO soy Make a soup with a organic chicken that you boil & add some carrots & cabbage & cook it all up - do not add anything else. This is dinner, after a couple of...
  22. hathor, well it is because I know it from my friends & myself & others that post to another board that are double DQ1. You could be eating gluten & be like a friend of my sister, the lady is 55 & dying of esphogus (sorry on spelling) & colon cancer & the intestines between those two are all damaged & it has spread to her lungs...
  23. At this time I would just take him off gluten & dairy. Do not add in soy, which a lot of people do when they go gluten free. Just be aware that if he seems to still have symptoms that it could be another food, which is easier to find once gluten-free/DF. You could also read the book "Eat Right for Your Blood Type" It was spot on for me, well except...
