ARCHIVED 1 1/2 Weeks Away From Testing
gfpaperdoll replied to Craftycat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board Crafycat. That side pain stuff is fairly common, it should completely go away once you are gluten-free, I also suggest you just go dairy free at the same time. At least for the first 6 months. Read the Book "Dangerous Grains", be careful about adding in the gluten-free cookies, crackers etc, lot of cross contamination, plus you just... -
ARCHIVED So Impatient For Signs Of Improvement
gfpaperdoll replied to Boffin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I use coconut milk in all my recipes. But I will say that I think that at first that you should not be eating any bread of any kind, just plain whole foods. After a time your other food allergies might get better or go away, a lot of mine did. For about 3 to 6 months you should not eat any of the replacement bread type things & NO dairy. You will... -
ARCHIVED Confusing Test Results
gfpaperdoll replied to Suffering in Ohio's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like you have a positive diagnosis via endoscopy. Sometimes the docs do not bother to tell you that. but if you have malabsoption proved via endscopy that = gold standard diagnosis celiac according to the doctors at this time. I will not go into the falsehood of that theory but we all agree that if you do have a positive biobsy that you do have... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Says Celiac Is Not Hereditary
gfpaperdoll replied to Babs83's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dr Fine has a new book in the works. My grandson has failure to thrive & has double DQ1 he is now 11. I have a friend that has osteoporosis (about 56 YO) & other problems that she did not go into. She is highly educated and a world traveler, she read Dangerous Grains & never took another bite of gluten. She promptly had a biobsy from an excellent... -

ARCHIVED Request #3
gfpaperdoll replied to BamBam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, Karen gave you the right info on the blood tests. Just be sure to remind your friend that a negative blood test does not mean that she does not have celiac or gluten intolerance. Not a blood test, but I really like Enterolab.com Please also remind your friend that dietary trial is the real proof. Sorry she did not get a reply to her question. -
ARCHIVED Word Must Be Getting Out
gfpaperdoll replied to par18's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think there are a lot of people out there that have gone gluten-free without a diagnosis. I know a lady from my office building that she & her daughter & a friend are all gluten-free & DF & they have no intention of getting a diagnosis, & they are very strict on the diet & do not cheat. They all had a lof of gastro problems and... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Says Celiac Is Not Hereditary
gfpaperdoll replied to Babs83's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dr Fine has people like me & my family double DQ1 that have been given a new life via gluten-free & DF. The problem with some people getting other auto immune diseases is that they have eaten such hugh quantities of gluten for so long that the "problems are already in motion" & it is like trying to stop a flood with a piece of bubble gum. ... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Says Celiac Is Not Hereditary
gfpaperdoll replied to Babs83's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do not think that anyone says you have celiac because you have a celiac gene - just that the possibility is very great, IMO & a few of the celiac docs. Basically I believe that no one needs to eat grains or dairy, I think that is about the thinking of Dr. Fine and a few others also. I also like the book "eat Right for your blood type" that author... -
ARCHIVED Tested For Celiac... What Now?
gfpaperdoll replied to Tripletmomma2000's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi mom of triplets, A gluten free house is easier to manage, very smart of you to start right off doing that. I suggest a local support group & a ROCK group for your kids (Raising Our Celiac Kids) Your other triplet could aslo have celiac, even with a negative blood test. The results from the gluten-free diet will let you know for sure... Not a... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Says Celiac Is Not Hereditary
gfpaperdoll replied to Babs83's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Doll, would you like for us to recommend some books on celiac for you to read? I have a bookshelf full, & am waiting on the new book that will be co-authored by Dr Fine & a few others. -
ARCHIVED Doctor Says Celiac Is Not Hereditary
gfpaperdoll replied to Babs83's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You only need ONE gene to get celiac or gluten intolerance. Although I think that if you have two - one from your father & one from your mother that you have worse symptoms... AND by the way you can only have two at the most, one from each parent. OR just one, from one parent. -
ARCHIVED Is It True?
gfpaperdoll replied to Q1821's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also agree with Deb in NY, that celiac is with you your whole life. I was born with it 60 years ago, my son was born with it & his son was born with it. I know what I know. What you thought were a multiple set of health issues when growing up was really just one thing you have celiac or gluten intolerance & yes I also say it is the same thing... -
ARCHIVED Is It True?
gfpaperdoll replied to Q1821's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There really is no true disease called IBS. IT is just a symptom of something wrong in your body. There is really no disease that is called vomiting either. It is just a symptom of something wrong in your body. Some of us call IBS the " I Be Stumped" problem. -
ARCHIVED Head Problems
gfpaperdoll replied to dawnrose008's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This works for me. For the stuffy nasal drip head stuff, eat broccolli & kale add in cabbage if you can have cabbage. also I am of course dairy free For a good reference read "Eating Right for your Blood Type" it is not a gluten-free book, although the author does go into detail about how bad wheat & dairy are for some blood types, but if you... -
ARCHIVED Financial Assistance For Low Income Families?
gfpaperdoll replied to hornbeck0920's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I second the suggestion to check with your local support group. I have some things now that I am going to contact my local group to see if anyone can use them (allergic to sorghum flour, darn it) Banana bread is an easy recipe to convert. You will probably find one on here. You will need some xanthan gum, a bit pricey - just put it in a jar & it... -
Oh Shucks, if the kid is growing, happy & healthy, forget the blood test, it is just a year if you want to you can do it next year. I find that if you have insurance there is always something they can test you for... You could test thru Enterolab, a non invasive stool test - at that age the kid would not even know etc. etc. I think Enterolab is...

ARCHIVED Help! Enterolab Users!
gfpaperdoll replied to k-amy32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Forgot to say that my double DQ1 sister was diagnosed by blood, & my double DQ1 friend by biopsy & then thru Enterolab, & now her gastro uses Enterolab for his other patients. Most people that have a positive biopsy do not also test to see which genes they have. Not all biopsy positive people have DQ2 or DQ8. DQ1 people not only have to... -
ARCHIVED Help! Enterolab Users!
gfpaperdoll replied to k-amy32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Read the book Dangerous Grains I would just put your son on the same diet as you are on, highly unlikely the medical docs will diagnose him. -
ARCHIVED Help! Enterolab Users!
gfpaperdoll replied to k-amy32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Amy, do not want to scare you but the double DQ1 is nothing to mess around with, I have it as do a lot of the people of the boards that I post to - also a lot of my family & a couple gluten-free friends. ignore the people that say you do not have celiac etc because you are DQ1 It comes with a lot of food sensitivities & neurological problems... -
ARCHIVED Old-timers Help! Reacting Again!
gfpaperdoll replied to oceangirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love Lundberg Anything!!! I eat their rice & their rice chips - sea salt. I seem to be able to eat rice. Lisa, do you get the bags of long grain white rice? Do you wash it three times in cool water before cooking? That eat right book was spot on for me also, I am AB+ blood type. Our double DQ1 must have something to do with our activity.... -
ARCHIVED Old-timers Help! Reacting Again!
gfpaperdoll replied to oceangirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Lisa, I am also double DQ1, I just passed my 3 year gluten-free mark. Now also DF. I have spent a lifetime battling food allergies. (now 60) I want to encourage you to drop that cereal like a hot potato !! I do not eat hardly any grains - & certainly no cereal. ALL that stuff is cross contaminated before it even gets to the manufacturer. I... -
ARCHIVED Confusing News
gfpaperdoll replied to Derek Borckmann's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have double DQ1 genes. That is commonly referred to as Gluten Intolerance. Gluten Intolerance is as bad or worse than "Celiac". Gluten Intolerance also comes with neurological issues etc. When you are tested for the genes at your doctors office they only test for DQ2 & DQ8. You can also have total villi atrophy & not have these two genes... -
