  1. i also would eliminate dairy, & SOY & I would give her a B12. Are you giving her any bought gluten-free products like the bread, cookies, crackers, pasta etc. If so, I would stop all that immediately & only give her whole foods, what we refeer as the basics, meat, veggies, fruit, & nuts... some cooked rice... I would not give her potatoes...
  2. Please contact your local support group. My group also has a dining out group, that is nice. You will meet a bunch of people that know what you are going through. Maybe the director of your group could talk with your mom. Would your mom go to a meeting? Or if you call the group director she or someone else might meet with you & your mom. Not that...
  3. Forgot to say that we will help you through this, one little step at a time. Also, you can contact your local celiac support group for local restaurant information etc So be sure to ask us any questions that you want to. & please do not be too overwhelmed, it is really not that hard to go gluten-free if you have some help & support.
  4. Glad you are back & doing better after surgery. Hospitals lease out the food operation to the lowest bidder. I would not eat any of it even if I was not gluten free. Most of it is awful & totally unhealthy. I remember ... when schools & hospitals had actual staff that cooked real food from the local supply of meat & veggies....
  5. every fast food place has a web site - go to the menu on each site & look for the nutritional/specialty menu - there will be a gluten free menu there somewhere. I suggest you print them all out & keep them in a 3 ring notebook for you child to take with him. Most of the restaurants do not keep gluten-free menus on site & you have to ask for...
  6. me again, I hate to be an alarmist but one reason besides good health that I am gluten-free/DF is to avoid cancer. My mother died of colon cancer. ( we did not know about gltuen then) today there was an article in the paper about a woman that is in the last stages of stomach cancer, she is dying at 35. They took out her stomach & some esophagus...
  7. My computer is messing up & I was about to lose my post so I had to start another one, sorry. anyway, Would you pleeeeeeeease consider getting the gene test from Enterolab.com??? there is also a lot of information there that you might want to check out. I am very interested in your gene results as I am sure that others will be. oh & welcome...
  8. oh you most definitely have celiac. A positive biopsy is the proof., plus oMG you were also positive via blood test!!!!! What are you thinking??? It never goes away. You are fortunate if you delivered a healthy baby & are still alive & healthy. The idiot doctor (sorry, sometimes we get a little over emotional, well i do!!) that said you...
  9. Some women do not make good grandmothers. She sounds like one of those. I would delete her from any invite list. No need to put up with her insensitive remarks. In not coming around she is saying that she is not interested in your family. Does your son have two celiac genes? You should consider that her brain might be messed up from all the gluten...
  10. Happy 60th Birthday!!! I think 60 is so much fun. I am glad that you had a family get together!!! I think that the girl, lied, I think she made the cake & pocketed the money. No telling what she put in it. I think also that she is making some sort of statement about what she thinks about gluten free - & you in particular. I think that your...
  11. how long have you been gluten-free & what are you eating? Are you also dairy free?
  12. Blue bell vanilla is supposed to be gluten free. Here is what they do, the last I heard from my support group leader. Blue bell processes their "white" ice creams (& strawberry, peach etc) & then they process their ice cream that have cookie ingredients & then they process chocolate. (& then I think they clean the machines) & then they...
  13. afraid all chewing gum is out, I also cannot chew gum anymore because of the artificial sugar. I also do not use toothpaste for that reason, I use baking soda, if it is good enough for Oprah... It was just on the news here that children should not use toothpaste. they should brush with water & floss. thought you might like to know that as most...
  14. and then there are people like me that will react to all gluten free grain foods, no matter whether made in a dedicated facility or not. Those Diamond Nut Thins are a huge no no for me. heck, I even react to my own baked goods made in my own gluten-free house. I am double DQ1, 3 years gluten-free/DF & bottom line is i just cannot eat grains, except...
  15. Breanna, there is a difference in a 3 year old getting a scope & a teenage boy. Are you sure your doctor is just not wanting to "make the fees"? Do you want your child to have a scope? Are you going to start feeding her gluten if it is negative? Just asking to make sure you know why you are going to put her through the scope business... to make...
  16. I mostly eat paleo except that i do eat cooked rice & corn. About maybe once a month I will make cornbread, & about once a week or so I have fresh white corn tortillas (usually for weekend breakfast with PB & J & bacon) & I eat fresh corn on the cob, but not canned corn. canned corn makes me sick, as does canned roasted peanuts. I do...
  17. I would highly suspect the crackers. they might be cross contaminated with gluten or you just might not be tolerating them. I think the European parts per million gluten is different in different areas, so if your crackers say gluten free, they could still contain more gluten than your system can tolerate. I think also in Europe you have to be careful...
  18. The first thing that I would do is to quit eating the bread & the cereal. well I would also give up dairy which is also in those candy bars. Being a former memer of a precision exhibition clogging team (that went to Europe twice!! to represent the USA in the 1st & 2nd world folk dance festival), I understand about the need for calories & that...
  19. The words that mother in law needs to hear from you is "no thank you, but that does not sound like anything that I would enjoy" "but I do appreciate your kind thoughts" & drop the whole thing, better no baby shower than one given by this woman, I will forewarn you - it will be something worse than this next if you let her proceed with a baby shower...
  20. Phyllis, I would give up dairy, don't quote me on this but I think I read somewhere that dairy can also cause intestinal damage. I hate dairy anyway, I think we have no business eating it. but darn it s so hard to give up...
  21. you will find some answers & get better but you will also have to work on things that you can while the doctors are probing around etc. Make sure you do not have any damage from those scopes etc, you know not all doctors do those perfectly... I whole heartedly support the posts re other allegens, you should explore an organic plain whole foods diet...
  22. Grey, are you grain free & dairy free? soy free? I have a cousin that was diagnosed ADHD as an adult & he started taking meds & he says he is like a new person. not sure what he takes. I will say that he resembles me a lot so I know we must share some of the same genes, but he is not gluten-free. His wife has celiac & has had it for...
  23. oh so sorry, you had one of the most idiot of the bunch jerk doctor... when you do find a doc be sure to check your clotting factors etc. & get a full blood workup... have you checked on line to find all the causes of rectal bleeding... This is the opposite end, but my sister is double DQ1, confirmed by blood tests, & enterolab...
  24. your stainless steel & glass baking containers should be fine. the only thing is if you have a stainless steel cookie sheet that you have used for years & it is "less than pristine" you might want to replace that one. Love the henckels, if the knives are inserted into slots in a wooden block, it is very possible that there are bread crumbs in there...
  25. oh I feel for you. re the woman that says "ooh that is gross", I can only imagine the other totally inappropriate words that must come out of her mouth. I thought that people were taught at a young age that they were not to make comments about a person's food, whether it be the lack of, the quantity, the appearance, or smell (seaweed anyone). there are...
