ARCHIVED Am I Still Making Dumb Mistakes
gfpaperdoll replied to confused's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I cannot eat chili powder, never have been able to - it just makes me have a stomach ache & feel awful all over...you might just be having a reaction to the chili powder... -
Ali, I went thru the same thing but it was many years ago. I also have a friend that this happened to. Here is what happens. wheat (gluten) is a great mascarader (darn spelling) and when you eat it you have no problems, at that moment, well what it is doing is slowly killing you, so that when you eat another food you get sick, because that food is upsetting...

Sample menu: Night before: cook boiled eggs, & either baked or boiled chicken Slice or shred chicken & put into serving size baggies Breakfast: scrambled egg or fried egg & canadian bacon, banana, apple, orange, or any fruit, pack snack: celery stick with a little container of almond butter (get the whole foods brand 365) this is better...

Ali, please look at what Fiddle Faddle has posted as a days sample menu. IMO, you are eating too many grains. You should not be starting your day off with cereal, no matter what the box says tht it is gluten free, it is not good for you, like Fiddle Faddle says eat eggs, fruit, even a tomato with some leftover cooked meat. You will have to cook some meat...

ARCHIVED Did I Do Everything In The Wrong Order Already?
gfpaperdoll replied to Dru's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have been allergic to oats & barley for 35 years. Oats are really bad for me. I think that it will take you at least two weeks to get them out of your system. Did they give you a metallic taste on your tongue? If so, once that goes away, it still takes about 5 days or so... I really cannot handle grains & am now eating paleo. Which is no... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms/negative Test
gfpaperdoll replied to s&r mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would have the doctors rule out physical causes - like obstructions etc. I would definitely pursue taking the child gluten free & dairy free & soy free. I would test him thru Enterolab.com. A lot of times the blood tests come up negative because of gluten intolerance maybe not celiac - but still just as dangerous & yes, if you keep feeding... -
ARCHIVED Am I Just Being Paranoid?
gfpaperdoll replied to goldyjlox's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, it sounds as if your children should be gluten free & dairy free. the best thing for children is not to feed them these items & then if their symptoms change - there is your answer. but they must be 100% gluten & dairy free, it takes a bit to get it out of your system. I am sure you are in a bit of shock & denial it is very common... -
ARCHIVED Teeth ?
gfpaperdoll replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would also like to know that!! My double DQ1 granddaughter age 9 has also lost the enamel on her teeth. But she is not gluten-free & her parents are not going to put her on the diet. She is also now overweight. I can just imagine the horrors tha she is going to go thru with her teeth... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Positive-wait To Go Gluten Free?
gfpaperdoll replied to tumtumsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
welcome to our group. The reason that you want new pots & pans is that if you have non stick ones or cast iron they are porous & have gluten hidden in the scratches, even dishwasher will not get that stuff out, same thing with plastic & wooden cutting boards, plastic spatulas, wooden spoons. So you might want to wait till you get the whole family... -

ARCHIVED Husband Is Depressed Because My Son And I Have Celiac
gfpaperdoll replied to evansmommie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I also agree with fiddle faddle. In addition to that, the consumption of gluten can and does cause depression, almost all of us remember those days.... Is your hubby overweight? He might see food as a control issue & with you he cannot control you that way, because you & your son are eating a healthy diet. Does he need someone that is more overweight... -

ARCHIVED Frustrated
gfpaperdoll replied to canner2u's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here is the main test that you need. Quit eating gluten (wheat, rye, barley, oats) & at the same time quit eating dairy. Both of those things have an opiate effect on the brain, you may have some withdrawal... but it will go away, you should see a change in your appetite & your food cravings go away. read some books, Dangerous Grains to start out... -

ARCHIVED Encouragement Needed!
gfpaperdoll replied to moozicteacher's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
yes, You have to eat three meals & two snacks a day. You will have to plan for those. It is good to eat a protein with a fruit, either a piece of meat & fruit or veggies, or fruit and nuts. You will need to purchase some walnuts and almonds & whatever nuts you like & keep them in the freezer... Maybe find your closest farmers market..... -
ARCHIVED Help!
gfpaperdoll replied to Beckiboo2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
well despite having negative blood work you have a LOT of symptoms!!! you could still have a biobsy & it could be positive even with negative blood work. you could test thru Enterolab.com or you could be serious about going 100% gluten free & see what happens. BTW you should also go dairy free at the same time, some of your symptoms could be... -
ARCHIVED Encouragement Needed!
gfpaperdoll replied to moozicteacher's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
please be aware that gluten & dairy are addictive they have an opiate effect on your brain. so you might go thru withdrawal, & that is surely the reason that you have an eating problem. You have to take time to cook on the weekend & freeze some meals for your lunches etc. I also second the recommendation that you just eat whole foods. an... -
No you are not asking too much !!!! Hubby was very inconsiderate to bring it home & OMG covered in chocolate. I cannot eat chocolate now & it is awful... He should have at least taken it with him to work... I would have thrown it out at lunch time - but then again I have a quick temper for stuff like that... He was not very thoughtful towards...

ARCHIVED So Very Confused -- Please Help
gfpaperdoll replied to Dru's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you have all the blood tests run & sent to a reliabe lab? Did you have an endoscopy? Not sure "three" blood tests were the right ones. But, yes you could be gluten intolerant or celiac with villi damage & it not show up via blood tests. I have known for 35 years that I was severely allergic to barley & oats. & barley is in everything... -
