  1. Destiny, I think you have had a hard row to hoe in your young life. I am so sorry that you have to deal with celiac & everything. I find that people usually respond in the way that people responded to them in their formative years. I hope you find peace & love in your life. your mom probably has the gluten intolerant genes. My family is double...
  2. I think that once you are eating gluten-free that you will gain weight & just look a lot healthier... Not counting how energetic you will feel. I think guys have a difficut time telling people they have a problem with food. If you do not want to say anything you do not have to. I on the other hand have to be careful not to be a nuisance.....
  3. Hi Andy, yes, I think being gluten-free at first makes you feel a lot different. You should start to feel so good that you might even notice that colors look brighter... I think you should go ahead & add some meat into your diet. It is important to get that protein. I think especially for us gluten problem people. I have a friend that is taking...
  4. I Also would eliminate all dairy immediately & no soy either. For drinks try water & 100% juice...
  5. we have Chipotle in Houston, but I cannot eat there, because I get sick every time. here is what happens, they use the spoon to dip up the meat or beans & then they touch the flour tortilla with the spoon & then put the spoon back in the beans, then they touch the lettuce & cheese with their gloved hands that has touched the flour tortilla -...
  6. I went to Pappadeaux's on I35 in Austin tonight for dinner with my son & grandchildren. What a wonderful meal. The manager's 3 year old son has celiac. He is also allergic to dairy, soy, corn & a couple other things! She is 1/2 Italian & informed me that 30% of the Italians have a gluten problem. (I think 30% of Americans also have a gluten...
  7. There is hope for fruit!!!! I used to be allergic to all citrus fruits. Now I can eat oranges!!!! I tell you I gladly give up any bread product for oranges!!!! It takes a bit though before you can add them in. I would wait at least a year... depending on how sick you are... Oh Joy, I can also eat pineapple now!! I love to get a carton of fresh pineapple...
  8. yes, defintely celiac, even with a positive biopsy. Not to mention your casein problem which is a big tip off, most people that have a dairy problem also have a gluten problem. & yes you should not cheat on dairy even a tiny bit - dairy is very damaging to your body...
  9. I am so glad that you are taking the B12 it is very important - just hope you made sure it was gluten-free. are you vegetarian? I did not see any meat listed as part of your diet. keep us posted, we like to see how you are doing & progressing along. I think you have made amazing progress in just one week - enough to notice a difference. be careful...
  10. I am Irish & english, & most of my family has a gluten problem. It sounds to me like you need to be gluten-free. I do not see how anyone that is Irish & English & has any symptoms would not have a gluten problem. You can email Enterolab & see what they say about shipping to & from Canada. I recommend them, because your family might...
  11. I will be VERY surprised if all of your sons problems do not disappear with food restrictions. I think gluten-free will be major improvement, & like some of the others said, you might have to eliminate things like artificial colors, and definitely no artificial sugar, which means no chewing gum, it is in all gum, & no toothpaste, artificial sugar...
  12. If you can eat salads it is a good idea to have one meal a day with a salad. & fresh fruit because the uncooked foods help keep your gut with the right balance of things to digest your food... But if your system cannot tolerate uncooked foods, then cook them & go from there. I would say homemade soups, chicken, carrots, cabbage, maybe tomato...
  13. I do not know if it because I am older or what but I used to get food cravings all the time. But when i went completely gluten-free, I do not crave foods anymore. It is really weird. Well now I cannot even have chocolate - that is sorta bumming me out, but I am thinking of making some non chocolate candy. I do take B12 & I think that helps my food...
  14. Correction on the statement that you cannot have a gluten problem from birth. I had a gluten problem at birth that took me 50+ years of hell to figure out. My son was born with it, he was my second child & I already knew the drill, only feed rice cereal... His son was also born with it, & had actual failure to thrive in the womb. Notice I say...
  15. PM me the name of your local celaic support group. I will take care of your membership. I cannot believe that they even charge !!!! In Houston we have a nominal $20.00 yearly fee to cover the cost of paper & postage...
  16. I think you should read some more of these threads. In my opinion I hold out little hope that a biopsy would be positive in a child so young, unless the child is showing severe symptoms & is lethargic etc. & the blood tests are not accurate. AND, if you have to wait any length of time to see a GI, you could be damaging your child at a crucial...
  17. Barbara, Make sure you take B12 everyday... it will help you a lot...
  18. Russ, you need to give up dairy. When you are eating gluten it balances out with the dairy. When you cut out gluten & not dairy you get the constipation. I think it will go away, if you cut out dairy. Also lots of fresh fruit & prunes are good...
  19. Some of us do not have the intestinal problems. Especially the ones of us that have DQ1 & or DQ3. We do get intestinal problems but that seems to come after a lot of other damage. In us it is the last symptom, so to speak & it can come when we are older. So you might want to wait 10 years & see if you get intestinal symptoms - if you do not...
  20. The original biopsy at 10 months is a diagnosis of celiac. You do not need any other tests - villi blunting is celiac, total villi blunting is near death. The child needs to be gluten free...
  21. Contact your local women's shelter, call the abuse hotline. You might not know it but you are in danger as is your child.
  22. Be careful, I have a bleeding blood vessel in one eye that cannot be fixed - which means that I am blind in that eye...
  23. I would forget the dietician. Get the book Super Foods - ignore the parts about wheat, rye, barley & oats. research on the gluten free forums & eat plenty of plain fresh food - meat, fruit, veggies, nuts & seafood is a great protein. this is a genetic illness. I would make sure that your mom gets tested.
  24. I had constant bladder/kidney infections which were cleared up immediately when I went gluten-free. Well they got better when I went gluten light 15 years ago thinking I had an allergy to wheat. My urethers were so damaged they wanted to put in plastic ones - I refused. & thank God because a doctor friend of mine said that if I had let them do that...
  25. I think that no one should drink orange juice. It is just too much sugar at once, bad for the stomach & bad for your joints. Try an orange instead. You should most definitely not be eating dairy. I am sure that it is keeping your system in turmoil. You need to eat a very good diet of meat, veggies, fruit & nuts. be sure to add in things...
