ARCHIVED Just Found Out About This After 10 Years Of Pain
gfpaperdoll replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The important thing is to know that if your blood tests are negative - it does not mean much - but if they are positive - you have a diagnosis of celiac. The biobsy is your choice if you have a positive blood work, you really do not need both to be positive for a dx. If both of those are negative, or if you do not want to go that route, (maybe you do... -
ARCHIVED Ugh The School Just Ticked Me Off!
gfpaperdoll replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It sounds like that school is skating on thin ice. Some schools even ban children from bringing peanut butter & jelly sandwiches or any peanut items. Some schools at least have a peanut free zone in the lunch room... Sounds like that school is a tragedy waiting to happen. What area of the country are you in? I had no idea that there were schools... -
Better triple check that IRS ruling, you can only deduct the cost of the food that is above what you would normally spend on the same item with gluten. & I have no problem taking my food things on a plane without a dx, my doctor is happy to give me anything that I need for travel... you know when you tell a doctor you have something they are not...

Mom23 boys - it would be interesting to see which genes you have. I would guess that you have at least one DQ1 gene. I know someone that has that shell fish allergy that is also DQ 1 - I am double DQ1 & it comes with food allergies. It is also my experience that if you are dairy intolerant, it is almost a given that you are gluten intolerant. I...

ARCHIVED Brown Rice Contamination
gfpaperdoll replied to Vykt0r's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was eating lunch once a week or more at Pei Wei & was always getting the brown rice. I kept asking them if they were sure they cooked my veggies in plain water etc & they kept assuring me that they did... Well I finally figured out it was the brown rice. So I have had to cut out rice altogether. I realized that I was eating a lot of white rice... -
ARCHIVED Question About Enterolab Results
gfpaperdoll replied to amberleigh's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
yes, dairy can damage the villi like gluten does. personally, I am not going to be giving up gluten & harm my body by eating dairy, soy, or corn syrup, or gluten free grains... (well a rare threat of a brownie or something made with coconut milk & maybe cornbread 4 times a year again only made with corn meal and coconut milk) But no way am I... -
ARCHIVED Question About Enterolab Results
gfpaperdoll replied to amberleigh's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Amber, you are only 29, imagine if you were 60 - I know unbelievable & from the age of 29 on your life was a downward spiral - if you are lucky enough to actually survive, before they find out what is wrong with you. I am not as lucky as you because I am double DQ1 & I have suffered with this since I was a baby - but no one ever figured it out.... -
ARCHIVED Dd Feeling Bad About Having Different Snacks
gfpaperdoll replied to kbdy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
the beauty of gluten free baked goods is that they freeze very well. You can freeze chocolate cupcakes - un-iced & lemon bars, & brownies etc- you can make powdered sugar frosting very quickly & keep a supply of food coloring on hand & all types of sprinkles. I will say I am not sure about freezing cookies, we never had any left to freeze... -
ARCHIVED Pooping & Miralax
gfpaperdoll replied to Izak's Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would take him off the soy - no one needs soy... I would also not give him dairy. Sometimes apple juice itself is enough to cause loose bowels. I am not familiar with miralax, but sounds like you have some good reports on it. also check to make sure that soy milk is gluten free - some are not - because if you are giving him soy, I do not think that... -

I would say not to mess around with the nurse & her saving labels for you - that is their job. get the 504 while you go to the higher ups - write letters & keep copies. If you make phone calls, make notes & keep a log... good for you for doing this - sounds like that nurse is clueless & thinks that you are just going to accept her useless... -
yes, it could be making you sick.

ARCHIVED Symptoms Not Quite As Bad (but Still Annoying!)
gfpaperdoll replied to bigbelly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, if you are going to spend the money on the tests - I would be eating all the goodies that i could think of - for the last time !!!!!!!! & yes, you need to keep eating the gluten until after the blood draw. be sure to print out the names of that blood tests - that are listed on here somewhere. Do not assume that your doc will run the right ones... -
ARCHIVED Just Had A Newborn Baby
gfpaperdoll replied to Annaem's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well remember when the docs say that you should introduce gluten at a certain age that basically it is a guess - I think that I did read that they did some small study - you could google it. personally, if I had known that I had a gluten problem when my kids were born - I would have never fed it to them. My son was born with a gluten problem & nearly... -
ARCHIVED Help My Son My Be Celiac
gfpaperdoll replied to mom2matt's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kathy, there is a great Dallas support group. PM me if you do not find the link on google... Well your son's asthma should go away on the gluten free diet. I am not up on diabetes but it is connected to the gluten problem & I think when a diabetic is on the gluten free diet that it makes it easier to control - but I am sure you can talk to some of the... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Not Quite As Bad (but Still Annoying!)
gfpaperdoll replied to bigbelly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are just used to your symptoms, not that they are not there... You have constipation. Anyone that does not "go" for 3 to 5 days is constipated - I know that used to be me. My doc boyfriend said I had a lazy colon... just get the tests for celiac & you will probably have to also be dairy free at first. & you could have a couple of other... -

ARCHIVED 1year And1/2 Gluten-free And Elevated Ttg! Help!
gfpaperdoll replied to oceangirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lisa, I am sorry you have gotten a high reading... I know that is such a bummer, with all that we go thru to be healthy. Are you eating oats? gluten free grains? If you are eating those then I would give up the gluten free grains & oats for 6 months & then get retested. -
ARCHIVED Ok Need Help Again With Symptoms
gfpaperdoll replied to Melmelsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Forgot to say that I would cut out all Gluten Free grains - things like cereal, crackers, waffles that kind of stuff - all those grains/manufactured products have a certain level of cross contamination. Some people cannot tolerate them - me for one... -
ARCHIVED Ok Need Help Again With Symptoms
gfpaperdoll replied to Melmelsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The cleaner that the dentist uses to polish your teeth are not gluten free. Also, I suspect that your daughter has other food allergies. Is she diary free? I would start with dairy, soy & egg suspects... also are you cooking with wheat (regular flour) flour in your house? or mixes containing flour??? if yes, you need to take that flour canister... -
ARCHIVED Newbie With Lots Of Questions
gfpaperdoll replied to Cath4k's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to take the 2 year old gluten free - his food issues will clear - he will eat... Sounds like he is one of the ones that get addicted to gluten. there are a lot of us that have somewhat of a small swallowing problem at times... I would take the whole house gluten free & let the ones that can or want to eat gluten do so outside the house.... -

gfpaperdoll replied to hmseyer21's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh My, I so feel for you. Having a child with health issues is so painful to a mom... not to count getting your med degree the hard way... Here is my advice - first trust your mom instinct, your child is in no shape to get anesthesia... get the blood tests run - print them out from here - there are five of them - & make sure the doc runs them all... -
ARCHIVED Deficiencies
gfpaperdoll replied to newceliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You need to do some serious research on celiac and osteoporosis. Celiac is the leading cause of osteo - & most doctors know that. There is some controversy about taking drugs for osteo in the first year or so gluten free... you might need a new doctor because if this one is treating your osteo & knows nothing about celiac - he is just stabbing...
