ARCHIVED Numbers Still Elevated?
gfpaperdoll replied to crittermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
yes, you can get cross contamination from the grill - highly likely in fact. you can either get two grills or quit using gluten on the grill but you would have to clean it really really well - you can also get CC from charcoal if it has wheat added... Not to mention any basting brushes etc. -
ARCHIVED Wits End With Belly Pain!
gfpaperdoll replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
that is so sad that he has to suffer from a little cake, but like the others said it can take from a day or two to several weeks, I would think once cupcake would at least take a week or so. I think one good thing to do is that when he goes to something like this, if you can call ahead & get an idea of what will be served then you can send something... -
are you traveling by car or plane? Either way it looks like a cooler & an electric skillet will be your best friends. Cooler is easy if by car, if by plane you can pack food but no ice or liguids... Yes, there are restaurants that have gluten-free menu, some are on line. For the retaurant go to menu & then nutritional menu or special diet. ...

ARCHIVED Problems With Milk
gfpaperdoll replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Miriam, Gluten-free Casein-free should be okay. I have two DQ1 genes & have had a lifelong problem with food, so I am used to not eating things for awhile - or forever. I am Gluten-free Casein-free & still have other foods that I cannot eat, but I am also 60 now. My system is just not as forgiving as it used to be. If you have problems with other... -
ARCHIVED Here Are The Test Results
gfpaperdoll replied to chrissid7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
re B12, take a sublingual B12 everyday - EVEN if your levels tested okay, the "so called right level" is not high enough, just take a B12 every day - & Chrissy, that goes for your child also... -
ARCHIVED Here Are The Test Results
gfpaperdoll replied to chrissid7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chriss, Please start out also dairy free & soy free... Please read up on dairy if you need to, but no one needs dairy, especially anyone that has an auto immune illness... Stick to it & I bet you are going to see some great results, please keep us posted. Oh & please please try to just feed whole foods & not get the gluten free goodies... -

ARCHIVED Numbers Still Elevated?
gfpaperdoll replied to crittermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Are you cooking with wheat flour in the house? Or wheat flour cake mixes etc? That wheat flour poofs up & gets on everything. Have you checked the toothpaste & shampoo & soap???? If you have wheat bread in the house, do you have separate mayo, mustard, butter, jam etc that is gluten-free???? One swipe on the wheat bread & then back... -

YES, to CMCM's post .... -
Hi Alex, I cannot say that I am angry, mostly just saddened. & I continue to be sad for people today that are still not being saved. My mother died of colon cancer & was ill for many years, no one ever figured it out. Checking family history there is a lot of crippling arthritis & the stories still survive in our family about the aunt (now...

ARCHIVED 8 Year Old Had Negative Blood Test
gfpaperdoll replied to chrissid7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Be careful about feeding potatoes they are a high lectin food & a lot of us cannot tolerate them... also, check the "Eat Right for your Blood Type" book to see what beans she tolerates best. Then do not cook them in a crock pot. beans need to be soaked the night before & they need to cooked at high heat (regular stove top method) until they are... -
ARCHIVED 8 Year Old Had Negative Blood Test
gfpaperdoll replied to chrissid7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would test thru Enterolab.com including the gene test. I would also take her grain free & dairy free. Just feed whole foods, meat, eggs, seafood, veggies, nuts, fruits. Do not add soy no one needs dairy or soy. Then she might not develop a problem with soy (unless she has it already) & you will not have to avoid in things like mayo. This will... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac Disease?
gfpaperdoll replied to samiam712's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here is the story on getting tested: You can get the blood tests - BUT you will have to print them out from here - there are about 4 or 5 & make SURE that the doc runs them all AND check to see what lab he is sending them to. If they check for the genes it will only be the celiac ones DQ2 & DQ8. Then you can get an endoscopy to check for damage... -
ARCHIVED Bloated Stomach...still?
gfpaperdoll replied to Bellasmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
ditto re dairy, she should be dairy free. Is grandma cooking with wheat flour??? the stuff is awful & poofs up in the air & gets on everything & the child can breathe it in & get very sick. Hard to keep little kids in a house that is not gluten-free. Do you have a local ROCK group or support group??? -
ARCHIVED Diarreha After Going gluten-free
gfpaperdoll replied to betterbelly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
are you completely dairy free? or eating cheese? Are you eating any gluten-free grains in breads & stuff. IF so, I would cut out all processed foods right away, including those gluten-free mixes & purchased things... Plus no soy,... -
ARCHIVED I Had To Suggest This To My Doctor?
gfpaperdoll replied to Soonerman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
or you can test thru Enterolab.com one reason some doctors will not diagnose it is that you will then get well and not need to keep going to the doctor. You know if that doc diagnosed the 50% of her patients that probably have celiac then her practice would shrink to nothing... Also, docs are not wanting to "distress" their patients by telling them... -
ARCHIVED Digesting Potatoes....

ARCHIVED New Here, Need Advice On Symptoms
gfpaperdoll replied to rose810's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Andie, I am not sure what you are talking about when you say "the literature suggests the diet for 18 months". It is a LIFELONG diet, you never can ever eat gluten again & for some of us dairy. Your insides might heal in 18 months, but if you eat gluten again, they will get damaged again & also worse things might happen like getting cancer or another... -
ARCHIVED Dreading Telling My Mil
gfpaperdoll replied to goldyjlox's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
good point about eating her baked goods. I will not eat anything that people bake - unless I know they have a gluten-free house. I got sick too many times from eating stuff at my support group & talking to the new people that did not get new pans etc. Soooo, maybe you could stress that the items would have to be made only in your own kitchen, that... -

ARCHIVED I'm So Confused And Frustrated!
gfpaperdoll replied to ladybugpumpkin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
wellll, you are double DQ1 & I know one thing about that (I am double DQ1) is that it is possible to get damage somewhere else before it affects the gut or at least that you feel in the gut. Also, if your intestines are damaged it might just go into panic mode & slid that pizza on out DQ1 people get a lot of neurological symptoms. Did you get... -
ARCHIVED Muscle Amd Joint Pain
gfpaperdoll replied to Janeti's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
what types of food are you eating? Are you dairy free? soy free? are you eating white potatoes? They are known to cause joint pain. Are you eating a lot of beans? They are high in lectins. Are you cooking beans in a crockpot? not a good idea as they need a high heat to break down the lectins & they need to be cooked well done. are you eating... -

ARCHIVED Thanksgiving With Il's
gfpaperdoll replied to moonlitemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would not even mention it to the IL's. I would freeze all my meals for a week. I would also cook a complete gluten-free thanksgiving dinner at home & freeze the leftovers into meals to take for the Turkey day. THEN IF they ask why you have brought your own food, I would mention that I have celiac... then if they want to accomodate you next year...
