  1. I just called the manager at Central Market to see if they would order the Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips, which even Whole Foods does not carry, here. He said that two weeks ago they expanded their gluten free selection of foods & created an 8 foot section of wheat free & gluten free foods!!!!! OMG, how exciting. I have not been in the store in...
  2. i would get a second opinion on the biopsies...
  3. well there is not such disease as IBS, just like there is no disease called vomitting. We call IBS the I Be Stumped diagnosis that the doctor hands out. IBS is a symptom of a problem, very common with celiac as GERD is also just a symptom, also very common with celiac. I laugh when I think about all the billions of dollars that drug companies make each...
  4. yes, thank you Fiddle Faddle, I agree with everything that you have posted. to the original poster, hang in there mom - just feed her plain good food & I double the advice to just take the whole house gluten-free, it is a lot easier on you & safer for the baby. chances are you two are not the only ones with a problem. No need to buy expensive...
  5. I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but those of us who suffer with gluten intolerance cannot ever add back in gluten & we know that. & a lot of us will test negative on every test except the one that matters, dietary trial. If you eat 6 wheaty donuts for breakfast & get sick, you really do not need a prescription to quit eating donuts. Doctors...
  6. I am no expert on blood tests, but I do know that it is like being pregnant - you either or or you are not - unfortunately there are no degrees based on the numbers - really a person with low numbers can be sicker & have more damage than a person with high numbers. - test numbers really do not mean much. Dietary trial is the real diagnosis. It...
  7. Definitely get all your blood levels checked, & get a hard copy of the results for your files. Also, i would quit eating dairy & soy. & I would look at the amount of caffeine that you are consuming. almonds are good, you could also replace your dairy milk with almond milk. I always thought it was beans, rice & corn that made the...
  8. Did you also give up dairy? That could be a problem at first, better to give it up for 6 weeks & then re-introduce. Also, did you add in any foods that you have never eaten before? Like some gluten free bread etc? If you did it is also better to wait on that. Pay attention to what you are eating & make sure you get enough protein. You could...
  9. A friend of mine has double DQ1, & she had a positive biopsy & she also has osteo & HS. she is much better on a gluten-free diet & she is also dairy free - except like me, she will occasionally eat dairy when dining out etc. It turns out that one of her DQ1 genes is the allele 0501, which I think they now think is part of a DQ2 gene. ...
  10. I would just like to point out that anyone that uses people on this board or any other celiac board as a basis for "numbers" concerning an issue are getting warped results. Because most of the people that I know that have celiac do not post on any forums. & a lot of the people that I have met that have celiac are ill informed, because their doctors...
  11. I am also gluten intolerant & I do not agree with Rachel & her views of Enterolab or her views on gluten intolerance. I know that I am healthy when I do not eat gluten & I have nothing else wrong with me. I was able to add in a lot of foods when I quit eating gluten. I am also dairy free & corn syrup free & soy free - by choice because...
  12. I think I am going to try that sweets, scotch, & butter diet.
  13. symptomax - please check into Hemochromatosis & get the gene test & find a doctor that is familiar with it. Are you a female? If you are & you have high iron - you need to be tested immediately. It can damage your heart, liver, kidneys, etc. & it can kill you. My father's brother died of Hemochromatosis. I have only seen people with...
  14. So sorry you had a bad time with the gluten accident. That is the worst pain there is. & yes, we are all used to being ignored when we go to the doctors - ERs have got to be the worst. They are full of young docs that "know everything". I found out a few years ago that I could no longer eat roasted nuts. Even the ones that the label looks clean...
  15. 99.9% that your mom also has a gluten problem. If she were to go a on dairy free & gluten free diet - & grain light to start with, she might not have to go to the GI & have to listen to his ignorant advice. Well, of course you should have things like appendics, cancer, tumors, blockages ruled out. But if you have had workup by a GI I would...
  16. oh so sorry did not mean to scare you. neurological is just shorthand for things like headaches, temper tantrums, emotional meltdowns, crying spells, anger, maybe some ADHD, problem sleeping, brain foggy stuff, things like that. People have come to accept that if you give kids sugar, they will be bouncing off the walls. with gluten - usually you will...
  17. I hope that you learn that you are not responsible for another person's inadequate capabilities. I also hope that you learn right away that you can never convince someone of something - no matter how much you think you can or how hard you try. If that were the case all of our children & grandchildren that suffer from this gluten problem would be gluten...
  18. It would also depend, if the person arranging the veggies washed their hands before touching the veggies. I know that a lot of people walk in the kitchen, wash their hands, & then touch a cookie & still consider that they have clean hands. Also, did they empty the veggies onto a cutting board (bread crumbs) before transferring to a platter. If...
  19. My guess is that the "taste" in your mouth is from Barley. If that is the case you should really be careful. barley is in everything. As a nurse you should know how important the immune system is. That is what is altered when you eat gluten, with or without "symptoms". I would like to invite you to our Houston celiac support group meetings. here is...
  20. Ursa, I know what yu are going thru. I have a 37 YO son with liver damage & a 10 YO GD that is overweight, & has lost all the enamel on her teeth & a 12 YO GS that is tiny & has issues, &... name a member of the family & fill in any number of symptoms. They are not going to listen to me & I know that now, after naively thinking...
  21. I react to tapioca starch. But you know it really does not matter what type of glue is used. Licking an envelope is just plain not attractive. Plus you risk a paper cut to your lip or tongue. Just use a glue stick or tape & you can complete the task without exposing yourself to germs or contaminants. Who knows where those envelopes have been stored...
  22. You can make all your Christmas goodies gluten-free. I bake things like: hello dolly cookies, lemon bars, chocolate chunk cookies, mincemeat cookies, little fruitcake like cupcakes - just all fruit & nuts with a bit of an egg batter with a little gluten-free flour, they taste excellent, you of course can pour a little brandy on them. Really almost all...
  23. It is just that some of us have been gluten-free for a long time. & some of us have done a lot of research, attended a lot of meetings, & read a lot of books, & diagnosed a lot of people, in addition to seeing our families suffer & yes some have died undiagnosed. My mother died of colon cancer. I have been gluten-free & dairy...
  24. Try cooking him some chicken soup with carrots & cabbage, nothing else. Plain homemade chicken broth is also good. I keep some homemade chicken & chicken broth in the freezer... 100% welch's grape juice diluted with water - keep the liquids going... expect the neurological stuff to kick in after the diarrhea stops...
  25. Once you have your child gluten-free again, please check what he is eating. I see that you are in London, I think that the gluten-free items there use wheat starch. We are starting to get it in the U.S. Some of us cannot tolerate it. & some of us, like me, are not going to be eating anything with wheat starch. You might want to do some research...
