ARCHIVED Hi! I'm New Here!
gfpaperdoll replied to fleckapo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Biopsy is a personal choice, & if you do it the biopsy might still come up negative, even if she has damage. The doc only samples a couple of spots. One of the complications of anesthesia is death. I personally would not subject a 6 year old to a biopsy. & there is also the chance that they perforate her intestine... There is another option... -
Oh wow, I had forgotten about my problems with Sciatica in my left leg. I was running & the pain was awful, they always laughed because I would have to run 3 miles to get rid of the pain before I could run with the group. a doctor friend of mine tried everything to get rid of it. He never did figure it out. He had me xrayed & I had no structure...

ARCHIVED Help With Interpreting Enterolab Results
gfpaperdoll replied to LisaInTexas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Each of your children will inherit one of those genes. Either the DQ2 or the DQ1. You inherited one of those genes from your mother and one of them from your father. The U S medical community will catch up with the rest of the world in the next few years... If you do not have a diagnosis of celiac on your medical records, since you are so young, you might... -

gfpaperdoll replied to mysecretcurse's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The reason that stores have managers is to correct any little unpleasantries that their employees do or say to the customers. Just ask for the manager. I bet he will have time to help you look for anything that you would like to purchase. -
ARCHIVED Sanity Check: Validity Of Enterolab
gfpaperdoll replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow, what an exciting little posts. well since I have been politely attacked for my one sentence. I have another one. I think that gluten intolerance is the same thing as celiac, because, funny we get all the same diseases that the celiac people get. hmmm maybe if we do not have DQ2 or DQ8 our osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes & colon cancer is... -
ARCHIVED Sanity Check: Validity Of Enterolab
gfpaperdoll replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I do not know any gluten intolerant people that believe that some gluten intolerant people can eat a low gluten diet. That is just supposition on someone's part. Do they have any studies to back that up - no they do not. Have they followed someone for 25 years that is gluten intolerant & on a low gluten diet. No they have not. I do not believe... -

ARCHIVED Sanity Check: Validity Of Enterolab
gfpaperdoll replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Some quite pricey specialist doctors do use Enterolab for their patients, especially the ones that specialize in osteoporosis. are they going to be messing around on here & saying that? uh nooo I have a friend that tested positive via biopsy & also has a couple of other auto immune issues, she then tested thru Enterolab, to get further information... -

About drywall, I would just like to say that I am in a class where there is major construction going on & the drywall dust & paint fumes are everywhere. I take a hepa airfilter & I still get sick... ARCHIVED 6th Birthday - "cake" Ideas
gfpaperdoll replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was at Whole foods today & saw the cutest cupcakes!!!.... The best one was two cupcakes put together then with green icing they made a dragon. The icing started with a tail, curved around & completely covered the cupcakes then continued down to form the head of the dragon. White icing or candy was used for the eyes. It was super awesome. They... -

You could also just bake regular size cookies & then place them together on a tray & icing the top. Geez, that sounds good !!!! -
ARCHIVED Oh Wow! Hi!
gfpaperdoll replied to saraphym's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Snacks take fresh dates & take out the seed, stuff with walnuts, roll in powdered sugar. They keep forever in a tupperware. cut up Dried apricots into slices, dip in chocolate or peanut butter (can thin with honey), also good with dried apples. make a trail mix out of nuts, one salted nut is nice, like salted almonds, then the rest fresh... -
ARCHIVED Oh Wow! Hi!
gfpaperdoll replied to saraphym's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This will get better... I know this is conflicting advice that you have received in another post, but really your child is sick & cannot digest those bought gluten free products and certainly do not give him oats. I would also cut out all dairy and all soy. No one really needs milk. Try coconut milk as a substitute, it is full of good fats & tastes... -
ARCHIVED Going Off The Diet....
gfpaperdoll replied to kimis's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hope you made that banana bread. That is one thing that always taste as good gluten-free as the regular. Well, there is also lemon bars, apple cake, carrot cake, pumpkin cupcakes, really anything with a fruit or dates, or mincemeat etc to hold in the moisture & give it a good texture - will turn out perfect... Enjoy!! -
ARCHIVED Having Surgery On Friday
gfpaperdoll replied to neesee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just saw this thread... So glad you are back home & on your way to recovery. Yep, don't skip the pain meds. Hopefully they are in your system now & you are feeling better. -
GrammaMae, I posted on the other forum on the HS thread & was reading it. Would you consider getting the gene test thru Enterolab? Some of us are very curious if we can link this HS to one of the "celiac" genes. We are looking at the DQ1 - 0501. Which has very recently been found to be part of a DQ2 gene. If we could find a common gene it might...

HS is a very serious illness & can kill you. I would not be eating any gluten to test positive for a test. One bad boil in the wrong place... Please do not be eating gluten... I have a friend that has this & he has no problems as long as he is gluten-free. I think it is also connected to the glutamates, such as in MSG, soy, dairy & of...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Not Yet Helping After 1mo
gfpaperdoll replied to Sheila Marie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When you are first gluten-free & trying to heal it is best to not eat any dairy, soy and very little to no grains. Have a lot of cooked fresh veggies, baked or boiled chicken, fish, salmon, eggs, cooked fruit if you are having problems with raw fruit. Pick out things that you know you can eat - foods that when you eat them you feel fine. Start with... -
ARCHIVED Severe Symtoms, Coming From ? Please Help, Im New To This
gfpaperdoll replied to alephknot's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi & welcome, just take a breath & know that you are going to be okay. Discovering that food has an effect on your health is huge, so you have to break it down into some managable steps. your symptoms sound like DQ1 problems - a gene... some of us have two = IMO double trouble. If I might suggest a couple of things. Get your blood... -
ARCHIVED Re-testing Enterolab Question
gfpaperdoll replied to LoriG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you might want to look at cutting out all grains & gluten free processed foods. Maybe treat yourself occasionally to some organic white rice... skip the white potatoes & sub in sweet potatoes. & good for you for going dairy free, keep that up. If you are not allergic to corn, add in an occasional Mission Brand White Corn tortilla... -
ARCHIVED Worried And Embarrassed
gfpaperdoll replied to MD2B's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do not think that ya'll are giving this young woman enough credit, she is a med student for pete's sake. No one is going to think anyone is a weirdo... But, the people that she knows in med school, will more than likely be the people that will follow her medical career. & just the fact that she goes to a doctor outside her hospital will be up... -
ARCHIVED Worried And Embarrassed
gfpaperdoll replied to MD2B's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well because in this case with a med student it is different. Doctors all know each other & word gets around... I do not know if this has changed much but when I was around doctors all the time, they only associated socially with other doctors. So, it ends up being a tight community... -

So happy you are going to be a doctor!!! I am sure you will diagnosis a lot of people that are being missed!!! Well you are in a sticky situation at the moment, You could tell a white lie & say someone in your family was just diagnosed...
