  1. hi everyone, just wondering if prawn crackers are generally ok? i read somewhere that they are made with potatoe flour which would be fine right? But maybe that isnt always the case? Anyone reacted to these? afraid to give them to my little man but he will definitely ask for them as he loves them. if he cant have them then we just wont go i reckon. thanks...
  2. thanks everyone... such kind words bring tears to my eyes.. happy tears though!! this kind of support should be bottled and sold to mothers everywhere... deep breaths and chin up I guess... thanks again... lots of love x x x
  3. Yes I felt that might be the case. I dont think I can put him back on gluten - I dont want to put him through the pain and - dare I say it - from a selfish point of view, I dont think I could handle the months of torture.... hope that doesnt sound horrendous... anyway, I agree with you. Sugar is most definitely the problem... I feel so sorry for him......
  4. My four year old boy gets severely distressed and cross and anxious when glutened. he begins to cry at every single little thing, he will become aggressive, lashing out at me and his dad and his little sister. sometimes he just needs to cry and roll around with the pains in his tummy for about an hour and then it begins to slowly wear off. it is very hard...
  5. my son is doing really well on the diet. amazing in fact... he is like a different child. however, even when I am (pretty) certain that he hasnt been glutened we do have reactions (always after his dairy/caesin and gluten free ice cream actually - or recently after the icing on a gluten-free cake that Id made very carefully) which leads me to believe that...
  6. hi and welcome - I am not very experienced as I am only relatively new to this board also but first and foremost its at least great that you have positive diagnosis for your children as a lot of the mothers on this board had to struggle with negative blood works and unhelpful doctors - including mysefl - finally diagnosing their children by themselves and...
  7. Wow you have had a tough ride havent you? I feel so sorry for you and can actually empathise with a lot of what you are saying... without going into my entire story, my son was quite similar, perhaps slightly less serious, with regard to mood swings, irrational behaviour, tantrums, crying, lashing out and general unhappiness until he went gluten free. Its...
  8. We are in a similar situation at the moment. Our son is also four (and a half) and has been sickly since birth. He used to cry all the time as a baby and as he got older suffered tantrums, poor appetite and generally unhappy. At age two we eliminated dairy from his diet and saw marvellous results after about six weeks or so when it was completely out of his...
  9. Thank you. I will look into the money back issue... I have heard of a scheme here in ireland that might involve recouping people of such expenses but dont know anything about it yet. still, i am so pleased with the positive diagnosis that I could do a jig. finally someone listening to us and believing us despite the lack of blood work... hubbie is feeling...
  10. Well done you!! Im so glad that you were able to help your brother and now son as well. I know what its like to see people you love with symptoms and getting sicker and them not doing anything about it... its so frustrating. I hope it doesnt take them getting as sick as your poor brother did before they will listen to what i have to say... well done again...
  11. Hi everybody... went to my GP today as my husband was in bed with severe back and joint pain and I had to collect valium for him. He is waiting to be referred to a GI for look in his intestine because of all of his gastro symptoms and because our son is almost definitley celiac even though his bloods were negative. We are hoping for a positive biopsy in hubbie...
  12. Hi mom to claire.... im not an expert as we are only adapting to the diet ourselves and seeing great results too. however I noticed that you mentioned that even though you arent being fanatical about crumbs etc, that you are still seeing results... however you also mentioned that your baby was totally grouchy today and that could be because you are not worrying...
  13. I know what you mean. My husbands family all have symptoms of celiacs disease esp our nephew which really worries me.. but as we have only really discovered this whole thing, the family are still coming to terms with our decision to take our son off guten and dairy. They realise we are doing it for marks good and although we have tried to educate them it...
  14. Thats wonderful news. Im so happy for you. We saw fast results too! Thank goodness your baby is still a baby when you discovered this. Our son was four before the light bulbs went off in our heads about celiac disease. His mood, health and general well being improved within the first five days and we are ecstatic about it. Good luck. x liz Ireland
  15. Hi Aprilh I am relatively new to the board but wanted to add to this - we believe our son to be either celiac or gluten intolerant (his bloods were negative but has had huge dietary response). I just wanted to add that as we grapple with this diet (we are trying to ensure 100% gluten /diary / casein free) we have had accidents that have seen our son spiralling...
  16. Thats great news. Glad it went well too.
  17. Hi Nikki just wondered how did things go? I really hope it all went ok for you though I imagine it was a hard thing to go through regardless... My thoughts are with you today.. we didnt get the biopsy done but just getting two rounds of bloodwork done was stressful enough so I can empathise with your concern. My fingers are crossed for you. Liz (ireland...
  18. Thank you everyone. Wow... i definitely feel we are on the right track... I am so glad that you all so improvements so quickly too... so I know this isnt a fluke. Nini, our experience with the tantrums is exactly the same... exactly!!! And then afterwards the pain in the tummy... oh boy we've had it for so long now that they were a daily occurence for the...
  19. Well technically its been two weeks but I dont think the first week can count as we made so many mistakes and unwittingly gave our son food with gluten - and I expect we will make lots more mistakes too... but since going gluten free (strictly) about five days ago, things have changed in our house and I dont know whether its a fluke or not! I really only...
  20. Poor little mite!!! I am of no use to you except to say give her a big hug from us!!! The sweetheart I hope she heels very fast!! Thinking of you. Liz
  21. Hi Nicole, Oh my god I totally know how you feel. I had one of those days yesterday. My son tested negative recently so we are trying dietary response. We are still only grappling with the diet and its so so so hard to keep upbeat about it. Sometimes I really feel that if he were diagnosed 'officially' it would somehow make it easier to be rigid about things...
  22. Thanks everone. I will certainly have a good look around for any of the brands you mentioned... although as I should have mentioned, I live in Ireland so chances of finding any of them are probably pretty slim. However, seeing as you have all found gluten free sausages of some description, then there must be gluten-free ones here as well. I have looked in...
  23. I was just wondering what you all use in replace of sausages? We have embarked on our gluten-free diet and it was going kind of ok until my son had sausages. They love sausages in our house. Anyway, there was - ahem -problems!!!... after that. I see that all sausages and bound together using flour. I havent been able to find a gluten-free sausage... even...
  24. Hi guys, not to confuse things but I had the same issues and I rang Kellogs about it. They told me that the only cereals approved by the Celiac Association (I presume in the UK) were Rice Crispies and Coca Pops. Just thought Id mention it but Im not saying that they are correct - not contradicting the other people on the board, but thats what Kellogs told...
