ARCHIVED Which Is Better? Corn Or Rice Pasta?
angel-jd1 replied to mwical's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like corn pasta over the rice pasta. Mrs. Leepers's is good. Also Orgran which is out of Australia, they have a good pasta. It is a mixture of rice AND corn (they call it RisOMais). It is good!! For the rice pastas Tinkyada is the best. It just isn't good "re-heated". -Jessica -

ARCHIVED Valentines Box Chocolates
angel-jd1 replied to Racheleona's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know the pot of gold by hersheys, you can get some that are only one thing like caramel turtles etc. Russell stovers sometimes has a "map" of the chocolates on the inside of the box. Or sometimes just like the pot of gold you can get a box of one thing such as "chocolate covered cherries or caramels" etc. -Jessica -
celiac3270- My list is already on here somewhere I believe...... -Jessica

ARCHIVED Valentines Box Chocolates
angel-jd1 replied to Racheleona's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Russell Stover lists allergens on their labels. You just have to read. They have some pretty good chocolate. Also Hershey's Pot of Gold boxes are good, yet again just have to read labels. Hershey lists the allergens on their labels. Hope that helps!! -Jessica -
ARCHIVED My Support Group Meeting Experience
angel-jd1 replied to angel-jd1's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I had the very same feeling. I didn't eat their "home baked" goodies that the other members brought either. I didn't feel safe eating them after talking to them and learning how far behind in "up to date" information they were. I was scared that I would end up sick. -Jessica -
ARCHIVED My Support Group Meeting Experience
angel-jd1 posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Last night I went to my first ever support group meeting. The group in town is just getting started and I thought it might be good to participate. I was really excited about finally having a local group. The air was soon let out of my balloon. Many of the people at the meeting were following so many "old school" rules it was rediculous. When I tried... -

ARCHIVED Obstacles Faced By Celiacs
angel-jd1 replied to ResearcheringCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What obstacles do people with Celiac disease face? i.e. at work, at home, traveling etc. 1) I believe one huge obstacle is information. There is so much conflicting information out there for us. So many things are still confused by many people (vinegar issue being a huge one). One group of people say one thing, another group says something different... -
ARCHIVED Metagenics Vitamin
angel-jd1 replied to mela14's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Vitamins in general are sometimes just very harsh, depending on what they include. Sometimes they just cause general upset (gluten-free or not). Just something to think about. -Jessica -
ARCHIVED Obstacles Faced By Celiacs

What is this research for? Personal interest, product development, writing an article, informing the president? ha Need more info before I shell out info. -Jessica -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Bake Their Own Gf Bread
angel-jd1 replied to mwical's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Quite a few people use english muffin rings to make hamburger buns. If you do a search online you can find them. I'm sure specialty cooking stores would also carry them. -Jessica -
ARCHIVED This Gene Is Inherited From Where?

I ran across an interesting thing earlier. It is coffee made from soy beans instead of coffee beans. The website is here: Open Original Shared Link I have no idea how much it costs, or how it tastes, but might be something to look into if you are having troubles. It says : -Jessica -
ARCHIVED I Tried It! Manna From Anna...
angel-jd1 replied to MichelleC's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I baked a loaf of the Manna From Anna bread this weekend. It is pretty darn good. What I really like is that it can be toasted!!! I made a grilled cheese and it actually "grilled" instead of soaking up the butter! haha I also made some garlic bread for supper with the same result. It is a great product!! -Jessica -
ARCHIVED Feel Like I'm Sinking....
angel-jd1 replied to anglepoise's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like you REALLY need to find a good therapist to talk to. Issues like that do not arise out of nowhere and for no reason. Talk to a professional, that is their job to figure out where the feelings are comming from and why. Best wishes. -Jessica -
ARCHIVED Rome And Sicily Travel
angel-jd1 replied to Mhiser's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Italy has such a high population of people with celiac disease. I believe they test all of their children by age 7 or something like that. I have heard lots of good things about travel there. It sounds like you had a great experience also. Congrats on the fun time!! -Jessica -
Congrats!!! Keep up the good work. -Jessica

ARCHIVED Help With Daughter Who's Regressing On Diet.
angel-jd1 replied to paula's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Play Dough would be highly likely to get under finger nails also. Most 4 year olds are into gross things such as nose picking and the finger that has the playdough and whatever else goes into their mouth!! I know gross, but easily explains contamination. There are several recipes out there for gluten-free playdough. Just make your own to be safe and healthy... -
ARCHIVED A Day In The Life Of A Gf Child
angel-jd1 replied to azedazobollis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The Kraft Parmasean cheese doesn't have any wheat flour in it in the US. Kraft clearly states the top 8 allergens on the labels. I have a can in my fridge right now and mentions nothing about wheat. -Jessica -
ARCHIVED Gf Flour Contamination?
angel-jd1 replied to brian26's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually there IS an in home kit that can be purchased. However, it is VERY expensive. If I remember right, when I called it was about 80 dollars for 5 tests. The tests can be used only once. Needless to say, I didn't get them. It's a great idea, but needs to be less expensive for me. Anyways....here is the info: -Jessica -
I think it is a GREAT idea!! Your biggest hurdle would be the customer base in your area. I know Denver is very large, however what is the population of Celiacs in the area? Have you tried going to support group meetings and asking people there if they would frequent that type of biz? You might get a better handle on the situation from local people, they...

ARCHIVED Communion Wafers? Detox Time?
angel-jd1 replied to Tricia's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
By putting your wafer in the same container as the others you are still being contaminated. Maybe you could have a seperate container, otherwise you may as well just eat the wheat !! ha -Jessica -
Granny- I think it was just a typo.....he meant to say "top 8 allergens" meaning milk, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, Crustacean shellfish, soy, and wheat. The bill also
