ARCHIVED Interesting Study Re: Silent & Active Celiac...
holiday16 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Open Original Shared Link I think the bottom line is people with active celiac produce more xanthine oxidoreductase which causes more GI damage and people with silent celiac don't. Just thought it was interesting. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
holiday16 replied to confusedks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My mother had the test done through Enterolab and came back with a negative. Mine came back just barely positive, but the gluten free diet has given me my life back. I tested negative with blood work several years ago and talking w/ my Dr. I guess it's possible it was negative because I really wasn't eating that many bread/pasta things that most people... -
ARCHIVED Caffeine?
holiday16 replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was wondering about that too. I've been gluten free for about 6 months and I noticed that I'm starting to have a reaction like what you described if I have really strong coffee. I used to make Starbucks, but started to react so I switched to a water process decaf which has been fine. Made the regular Starbucks again the other day and felt bad for quite... -
ARCHIVED Kitchen Aide Stand Mixer
holiday16 replied to mairin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This is the one that I have. I wasn't planning to buy one as soon as I did, but I found it on clearance for about $150. Couldn't resist that and ever since being diagnosed I've been so thankful I had it. I didn't use it much for the year I had it until I had to learn to make the gluten free bread. Now I think every time I make bread how glad I am I bought... -
ARCHIVED Can Everyone Post Their Genes
holiday16 replied to confused's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I never had the gene test done so I only know from deduction what mine are since my parents had theirs done. My mother's was: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0302 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0501 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 3,1 (Subtype 8,5) and my dad's was: Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 3,3 (Subtype 7,7) ... -
This is sort of a different product, but it's worked well for me. It's the No More Bad Hair Days kit by Robert Craig http://www.merchantamerica.com/robertcraig...p;category=4316 I think it works well for me because my hair is curly yet it's very fine which I don't think is all that common. It doesn't take much for it to look limp/stringy. I finally...

ARCHIVED Comparing 2 Sons' Results From Enterolab
holiday16 replied to Pacer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it helps any we're in a similar situation. I was diagnosed through Enterolab last year after having a negative blood tests three years ago. We noticed our youngest daughter was doing better on the gluten free diet. She'd been having stomach pains that we had started taking her to the Dr. for, but gluten free they went away. If she had gluten they came... -
ARCHIVED Comparing 2 Sons' Results From Enterolab
holiday16 replied to Pacer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I asked my NP about the signifigance of the numbers and she said how high they are is not the issue because some people produce more antibodies than others, but what matters is that you have a positive test result which means you are showing a reaction to gluten. Mine came back at only an 11 yet I was very sick for almost 8 years with several issues many... -
ARCHIVED I Found The Perfect Pans For Making Hot Dog Buns!
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm really picky when it comes to texture and I thought this had a nice chew to it. I think that since they rose so much it had too much bread for my tastes so if I use less next time it will be perfect. However, even with regular buns I tear alot off because I always thought it was too much so that's probably just me. I gave one to my mother and she really... -
ARCHIVED I Found The Perfect Pans For Making Hot Dog Buns!
holiday16 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was out shopping at this little dimestore near us that tends to carry some things that you can't find at the larger stores like Wal-Mart etc. I hadn't thought about making my own hot dog buns since I don't like fooling with making the forms, but I had just recently read the thread on here about an easier way to make them so when I saw these foils it made... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Making Carol Fenster's Recipe For (m)...
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I used Lorka's bread recipe for a while, but my dd liked the one from Carol Fenster better. I really think it's just because the flax seed one is very much like store bought bread and the Fenster recipe is closer to homemade and I always made my bread myself. I also posted about using a hearthkit and I suspect that may be why it turns out as well as... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Use A Hearth Kit?
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Maybe I'll try experimenting with and without it sometime because I really think it makes a difference. I was looking up some posts on bread machine baking and I noticed many people said their bread turns out better in theirs. I used mine to make some bread and it was ok because I was just going to use it for stuffing, but I didn't think it came out near... -
ARCHIVED Low Iga?
holiday16 replied to jdp364's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm considering asking to be tested for my overall IGA because I tested negative through blood test and barely positive via Enterolab, but my symptoms where horrible. I asked the NP that ordered the test and she said some people just have low IGA and the level has nothing to do with severity since some produce more and other less. I worry that other family... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab--what's The Scoop?
holiday16 replied to woolwhippet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a negative blood test, but tested positive through Enterolab. I know some people debate them, but for me I would never have known what was wrong without that test and it was the answer I needed after 7 years of being absolutely miserable. I still find it hard to believe I was as bad off as I was and the blood test still came back negative. I tested... -
ARCHIVED Unusual Symptom Happening
holiday16 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I swell up if I ingest gluten and that's a part of swelling unfortuantely. For me I swell more in the abdomen, but I think that is because that's where the list resistance is due to pregnancy. Maybe that's why it focuses where it does for you as well. I will be interested to see what others have to say regarding hormones because I have an estrogen dominance... -
ARCHIVED Horrible Stomach Pain?
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That sounds very similar to how I was. I was actually diagnosed with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis and was referred to a rheumatologist who felt that did not fit, but was closer to Fibro, but I did not have enough pressure points yet to be diagnosed. Then I was diagnosed by an NP to have a parasite that causes reactive arthritis. Part of the support... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Use A Hearth Kit?
holiday16 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
if anyone else here uses one and if so have you tried cooking gluten-free with and without it? I think it helps quite a bit with gluten free cooking as far as "crisping" things up sometimes. I wouldn't go so far as to buy one just for that, but it's a nice benefit. Where it really pays off is with pizza. I made crust from a recipe on here, but it came... -
ARCHIVED Horrible Stomach Pain?
holiday16 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
until last week when we went to CA. I avoided eating out as much as possible and ate as safely as possible, but I must have gotten gluten somewhere along the way. We got back Sat. and I have been sick until today (Thurs). Still not 100%, but not near as bad as it was. My question is after being gluten-free for a while does that make your stomach pains... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Chocolate Cake In Everyday Food Magazine
holiday16 replied to skoki-mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made the recipe posted here last night and it turned out well. A bit rich for my tastes, but my parents and dh loved it. I think it tastes much better served with a whipped topping than without. It was much easier to make than I would have expected and while I wouldn't make it often I'm keeping the recipe on hand! I used the bittersweet choc. rather... -
I e-mailed them and they gave me all the gluten free possibilities in their park, but can anyone tell me how good a job they do at making sure it's gluten free and is one place better than another? We will be traveling to CA with our three kids for spring break and with three of us (me plus two of the kids) on a gluten free diet I would hate to have a bad...

sandwich bread (Wheat Free Recipe's and Menus book) using her Sorghum-Corn flour blend? I've tried several different recipes and this is the one that the whole family seems to like the best. I think it's because I used to make my own bread so this seems to be the closest to what I used to make. What I like is that is smells/looks like real bread when it... -
ARCHIVED Mayo
holiday16 replied to dublin1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We've been using Hellman's light and I noticed that the last jar we bought actually said gluten free on the label. The jar I had before did not say that. I saw something else the other day that said it too. It would be nice if more companies continue to do this! -
ARCHIVED Low Gluten Communion Hosts?
holiday16 replied to de caps's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but here is a link to the story regarding low gluten hosts developed by the Benedictine Sisters. They contain 10 PPMs or 37 micrograms. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -
I am so glad to see this thread! After I had my last daughter I could not lose the weight. Took me a couple years to realize it was water weight. I used medication to control it and through trial and error we found that Strattera works. I lost almost 30 lbs. of water. I went gluten free around Oct. and I have noticed if I accidentally have gluten I get...
