ARCHIVED Have You Guys Heard About The Pet Food?
Viola 1 replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is the time when I'm so thankful that I've had Sheba on a gluten free diet. As much for me as her. Her food is not on the recall list for sure. However I feel terrible for the poor people who have lost there pets and those who are still ill. It's all so sad for them. And yes! Jessica, that is a beautiful kitty -

Hi everyone! Sylvia welcome! It's super that you have come in to join us I think I lost a day somewhere I can't remember posting yesterday. Anyway, we were in Nelson all day again today. Had a doctor's appointment and I do have ulcers .. wonderful He's given me some meds to try and heal them up, and thankfully they are gluten free. ... -
ARCHIVED Never Introduced Myself!

Also, you can't tell the difference with gluten free pancakes. Both Pamela's and Kinnikinnick have excelent pancake mixes, and my parents were visiting. They just about had a fit when I sat down and started eating the same pancakes They are great for a meal, but also if you put the left overs in the fridge, and then your hubby can heat them a little and... -
The print on the lables have gotten smaller!!! That's gotta be the reason for sure It looks like the three of us are all old hands at this gluten free business. It's a good thing we look younger every year

.. I know, not funny, but it is when you think about it. We who have been on the diet for years, tend to check for wheat, malt flavouring or oats, but gluten doesn't pennitrate the old brain, because all the ingredients list wheat ... right! Wrong ...I've done that and fortunately had someone else in the house clue in before I ate any. Seriously...

ARCHIVED Never Introduced Myself!
Viola 1 replied to uhave2bekidding's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome! A big black marker works in my house, I also buy mayo, kechup and mustard etc. in a squeeze bottle so no one puts their bread contaminated knife in them. I insist on spoons in jelly, peanut butter etc. or more often than not, have one marked with a big black marker and the other for my gluten eating hubby. If we have company staying... -
ARCHIVED My Doc Said I Could Cheat....
Viola 1 replied to BostonCeliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm glad to know that I have a good and Celiac educated doctor who tells me to watch my diet very closely, which of course I do. I can't believe these doctors telling you to eat the very poison that makes you ill, and oviously damages your intestine! -
Hi Rusla; It sounds like you had a blast in Victoria I like to visit the island occasionally, but don't want to live there. Those ferries would drive me insane, and is one of the reasons we don't visit all that often, as hubby's cousin would say. One error that someone told you about fleas. We took our mini dachshund to Victoria for a week and had...

Either that or you are reacting to too much oil, which is a problem that I have when I try to eat fries ... even the gluten free frozen ones. I do mine in the oven and have no problem.
-
Yes, that would work nicely ... I use them when I have to put out a plate of gluten laden cookies or something for company

How nice for the dogs I'm sure alcohol wipes would do just fine as the dog bones don't cause a sticky residue, just a possible dust. The wipes should clear that away with no problem. Most of Sheba's food is gluten free, however she does occasionally get the real minature milk bones. I just rinse my hands and wipe with a paper towel, and have never...

Wow Diana!!!! 2 pounds !!! Yipee for you That is just super. I didn't show any weight loss this week. But my scale is digital, so maybe a bit, but not a whole pound. That's what I'm telling myself anyway. Our snow is pretty much gone now, so I finally got my little Sheba out running around today. It was a beautiful day and although I have... -
ARCHIVED Is The Amount Of Gluten Vs Nutritional Intake Relative?
Viola 1 replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The way I've understood it over the years, from various doctors is ... any gluten you eat, no matter how small will damage the intestine and put you at a much higher risk of cancer and other auto immune diseases. -
I think I'm going to up it to a dollar for everytime this subject is raised and discussed Bottom line, do your research and make up your own mind

ARCHIVED How On Earth?
Viola 1 replied to uhave2bekidding's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oops, sorry, I missed half your post Must be an age thing. Friends and relatives ... to start with until you are assured that they know the diet well, bring pot luck. A dish that your hubby can eat and feel safe with. Something like a shepherd's pie covers all the basics. It's lean hamburger, browned with mushrooms, onions, and gluten free... -
ARCHIVED How On Earth?
Viola 1 replied to uhave2bekidding's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, the toaster you do need ... a new one that is. However .. In my opinion utensils can be washed well enough! You need to worry about teflon pots and pans that are worn. Steal can be washed well enough without replacing them. Baking stuff is hard to clean out of the corners, so I replaced them. Dishes can be washed. It really is just some good... -

ARCHIVED Potting Soil?
Viola 1 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't help you with the tuna, as haven't used it. But I used to have a huge greenhouse and plant thousands of seeds every year and I don't think I was ever contaminated with the potting soil. Are you the only one gluten free in the House? I get contaminated more by my hubby than anything else, accidently of course ... at least I hope so -

Hi everyone ... I wrote a nice long post last night and just before I posted it my server cut out and I couldn't get back on line I need one with great big crocodile tears Anyway, you know that I was thinking of all of you yesterday. I also said that I blew my diet big time with speggettii (tinkyada), parmasen cheese, peas and salad... I did use... -

Hush, don't be so hard on yourself! You are most certainly NOT stupid. It's just something that you haven't learned how to do yet. And we must learn something everyday to keep us healthy and reasonably sane And if the truth be known, we've all had to have it explained to us sometime. So ... scroll up to the top of this page that you are in. You... -

ARCHIVED Let's Add What State We Are From To Our Signature
Viola 1 replied to Daisy Duke's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Good Idea! To put which state you are from is great, but it really makes the forum easier if you at least put which country you are from as the products are so different from the U.S., Canada, England etc. Even the same products, with the same name and box design will have different ingredients. So when you are answering a post, it's great to be... -

Another crazy 'food' day around here. My quilters just left, and because it's really too late for a proper lunch I just had an orange and a strawberry cheesecake cup ... actually it's only half a cup. Not overly healthy, but will have to grab a bite early for dinner too as I have to leave here at dinner time to pick up two ladies for the meeting in...
